Jurassic Park is a 1993 American science fiction action film[4] directed by Steven Spielberg, produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Gerald R. Molen, and starring Sam Neill, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, and Richard Attenborough. It is the first installment in the Jurassic Park franchise, and the first film in the original Jurassic Park trilogy, and is based on Michael Crichton's 1990 novel of the same name, with a screenplay by Crichton and David Koepp. The film is set on the fictional island of Isla Nublar, off Central America's Pacific Coast near Costa Rica, where a wealthy businessman John Hammond (Attenborough), and a team of genetic scientists have created a wildlife park of de-extinct dinosaurs. When industrial sabotage leads to a catastrophic shutdown of the park's power facilities and security precautions, a small group of visitors, including Hammond's grandchildren, struggle to survive and escape the now perilous island.
Before Crichton's novel was published, four studios put in bids for its film rights. With the backing of Universal Pictures, Spielberg acquired the rights for $1.5 million before its publication in 1990. Crichton was hired for an additional $500,000 to adapt the novel for the screen. Koepp wrote the final draft, which left out much of the novel's exposition and violence, while making numerous changes to the characters. Filming took place in California and Hawaii from August to November 1992, and post-production lasted until May 1993, supervised by Spielberg in Poland as he filmed Schindler's List. The dinosaurs were created with groundbreaking computer-generated imagery by Industrial Light & Magic, and with life-sized animatronic dinosaurs built by Stan Winston's team. To showcase the film's sound design, which included a mixture of various animal noises for the dinosaur sounds, Spielberg invested in the creation of DTS, a company specializing in digital surround sound formats. The film was backed by an extensive $65 million marketing campaign, which included licensing deals with over 100 companies.
Jurassic Park premiered on June 9, 1993, at the Uptown Theater in Washington, D.C., and was released on June 11 in the United States. It was a blockbuster hit and went on to gross over $914 million worldwide in its original theatrical run,[5] surpassing Spielberg's own E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial to become the highest-grossing film of all time until the release of Titanic in 1997.[6] It also remains the highest-grossing film directed by Spielberg to date. The film was also a critical success, with praise directed at its special effects, sound design, action sequences, John Williams's score, and Spielberg's direction.[7] The film won over 20 awards, including three Academy Awards for technical achievements in visual effects and sound design. Following its 20th anniversary re-release in 2013, Jurassic Park became the oldest film in history to surpass $1 billion in ticket sales and the 17th overall.
Jurassic Park's pioneering use of computer-generated imagery is considered to have paved the way for the special effects practices of modern cinema. In 2018, it was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". The film spawned a multimedia franchise that includes five sequels - The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997), Jurassic Park III (2001), Jurassic World (2015), Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018), and Jurassic World Dominion (2022) - a television series, video games, theme park attractions, comic books, and various merchandise

"That's hard" --when the dinosaur banner came floating down at the end.
Imagine seeing that in 1993 in a packed theater. The whole audience clapped like the president just walked in.
Definitely. I get that adrenaline rush every time I watch that scene.
I guess the 90s is when being the president used to still mean something
@@torpedoboy4 Crazy, i just get sad b.c. the dream is destroyed in that moment :D
I was there... In 1993. ;)
Dr. Hammond is played by the late, great Sir Richard Attenborough - wonderful actor and a brilliant director in his own right.
He was also the brother of Sir David Attenborough, Broadcaster and Biologist.
Both are national treasures in the UK 🤓🇬🇧
It turns out Spielberg was going to add the scene in, when Arnold was supposed to bite the dust onscreen, as he told the AV Club, "I was actually supposed to go to Hawaii, to shoot my death scene. But there was a hurricane that destroyed all the sets. So, I didn't get to go to Hawaii. So, this was why Jackson's death was cut.
I read this too fast and thought there was a lost scene where Arnold Schwarzenegger gets killed by raptors lol
This movie was way ahead of its time. People were left speechless back in the early 90s when they seen this
It was 1993, man. Those cars were flippin’ AMAZING in ‘93.
Maybe for americans, for us in germany, they were like old Ford's :D
I remember standing in line outside the theater and there was a couple with very young kids in front of me. I had read the book, so I said, "This isn't a movie for young kids, this isn't Barney the purple dinosaur....just warning you." They ended up sitting in front of me in the theater and the little kids spent most of the movie, on the floor, hiding and crying. It was the first time dinosaurs had been present realistically on screen. I can't believe the parents didn't get up and leave with the kids.
You were right initially, There were 3 raptors at the end, but the kids locked the 3rd in the freezer, so only two left to fight the t-rex
My dad took us to see this multiple times in the theatre, when it came out, and it scared us to death! What a great ride it was!
You know fun fact since you've have already seen Jurassic world. That Rex is the same one from this movie, Old Rexy is still around in Jurassic World. So, that is the same rex.
She's a veteran killing machine in Jurassic World
“I remember it darker.”
*lights go out
“Okay, no, what I meant was-”
😂💙
Yes, this is the start of everything before Jurassic world was ever made. And Dr. Henry Wu was very young in this one, but yes, he was in Jurassic world. He was head of the scientist.
"Look on the bright side. We can watch it together, right...right?" 🤣
"It's an interactive CD-ROM!" Yeah. Touch screen? Amazing! I was playing Snake on my desktop running MS-DOS.
Saw this in cinema at 10, with a friend. Talked about it so much, my mom decided she wanted to see it … so I got to see it AGAIN lol
That was actually the first time I really appreciated watching something with a crowd. The movie so fresh, I could pay more attention to them.
Just on that note, seeing movies with a crowd is pretty amazing, sometimes
So: Thanks for sharing your reaction with us 😁💙
In the book there were many more raptors, and Dr. Grant killed 3 of them on his own with poisoned eggs
it IS "wreaking", not wrecking, and you have no idea how thrilled I was to hear someone get it right bc I'm a huge nerd. Also, "infinite money glitch" and "you're gonna grow up to be a menace" fucking sent me. I've had whole arguments with my husband bc if Jurassic Park was real I'd find a way to go regardless of the potential for loss of life or limb.
Yuh, it just means like "inflict" or "to cause." (Same pronunciation as "reeking" as in something that is smelling unpleasant.) Usually attached to a negative connotation or context.
7:30 gotta remember my dude, back then we didnt have commercial hide a spots like the soda cans haha so that shaving cream can was like high tech at the time lol
One day I'm going to meet some kind of doctor and tell her "Doctor (), I refuse to believe that you are unfamiliar with the concept of attraction." Fingers crossed she gets the reference.
great reaction, i love the jurassic park franchise, the lost world (second one) is my favourite
The third velociraptor isn’t in the fight with the T-Rex at the end because it’s locked in the freezer.
I like how only kids are killing dinosaurs in those movies :D Here the velo gets locked in and would starve and in the 2nd, kelly kicks the velo down to his death :D
I think the word you were looking for is safari
This movie has Sam Jackson and Goldblum nuff said. And it was a sleeper because the two leading actors(Sam forgot his last name and Laura Dern) were know for some very sappy movies back in the day. We didn't expect JP to be this horrifyingly good. It was a nice surprise. I can remember older kids loving it, little kids hiding and adults laughing at the little kids fright. Pure '90's. Your intro was hilarious btw!
Most animals that are tall enough can open those lever action doorknobs just by pure curiosity/accident, my dog can, probably why they aren't widely used except in offices and hospitals
I realized that years ago taking my dog to the vet, he heard another dog in the room next to the check in and just raised up to scratch the door and sure enuf his paws slid right down the door latch and threw it open, surprised the hell out of the vet nurse inside lol, probably shouldn't have those kind at the vet places haha
I fucking LOVED this reaction!!! Good job bro!!!
It doesn't matter how often I've seen Jurassic Park, that scene in the maintenance bunker when the Raptor shows up behind Ellie will always get me with the jumpscare.
Side notes:
The dinosaur sounds in this movie were made by combining sounds made by living animals and everyday objects.
The Tyrannosaurus rex, affectionately known as Rexy, was a mix of elephant calf vocalizations (roar, snarls and growls), with lion & tiger sounds and alligator gurgles thrown in and a dog playing with a rope toy (shaking the Gallimimus to death).
The Dilophosaurus was a mix of hawk, swan, howler monkey and rattlesnake sounds.
The adult Raptors were a mix of a walrus chest roar and dolphin mating scream, while the hatchling was a mix of owlet and fox kit sounds.
The Brachiosaurus vocalizations were slowed down donkey brays, while the sneeze was a mix of a fire hydrant and a whale breathing through its blowhole(s).
The Gallimimus's chief sound effect was made using the recorded calls of a female horse in heat.
A good portion of this movie was shot on the Hawaiian island of Kauai.
Whenever I hear Hammond ask "Who's hungry?", my first reaction every time is "Not after hearing the Raptors rip the cow apart."
Lego released 30th anniversary sets in honor of Jurassic Park and the one I have is based on Dennis Nedry's encounter with the Dilophosaurus.
It's two trilogies, Jurassic Park 1-3 and Jurassic World 1-3. They're also connected more or less, so it's worth watching them in order. For me nothing tops the original (JP1 from 1993) though, it's an absolute great movie in every aspect! My all-time favorite movie in general even. 🦖
I saw this opening weekend in 1993 at age 11.
You have to realise that nothing like this had ever been seen before.
Real dinos... that beat the pants off modern day CGI...
And, CGI that alongside T2 and The Abyss, birthed the CGI revolution that's been going for over 30 years.
It's a bittersweet movie considering everything since has been utter sh*te.
But that weekend... was magical.
11 years old, dinosaurs, the birth of CGI... and Spielberg?
Lightning in a bottle.
Pure, cinematic, gold.
Considering I was born in 1982, this was my "Star Wars Moment".
Same here, my granddad showed me a newspaper cover showing the rainy Tyrannosaur scene, he told me the film was not for children, but that he'd secure me a ticket, I still remember the absolute awe of seeing the lawyer gobbled up like that.
Lol, I've never seen anybody peg Dennis' character *that* fast!
We were not already good when Allen threw the flair. That was a short distraction. Ian shouted to Allen to get the kids.
50:48
I saw another video about “times the safe room wasn’t safe” in video games, but …
How many times in this movie do we think we’re in a safe place and NOPE lol 🤣😆💙
You're right it's either wreaking or wreaking. Pretty sure wreaking is the right one.
Check out the movies King Kong(2005), Anaconda(1997), Tremors(1990), Jumanji(1995), The Goonies(1985), Honey, I Shrunk the Kids(1989), Men In Black(1997).
If in the future you can get robots that look and sound like anybody I’m gonna get this dude to watch movies with.
For me, this is the movie that made C G..I. most popular.
T-rex scenes are all CGI. Only parts that are real, is when it's a close up of it's face/head.
2:58 that IS fire. Always like seeing people introduced to good movies for the first time. Thank you for sharing with us!
In the immensely popular (despite the sins) movie Jurassic Park, there's the famous scene where the giant T-Rex is attacking a jeep during a thunder storm. As it attacks, Dr. Alan Grant, a self-respecting paleontologist, yells, "Don't move! He can't see you, if you don't move." Here's the thing - that's wrong. (If that comes as a blow, you're definitely not going to want to learn the shocking truth about Velociraptors.) The Tyrannous Rex not only could see just fine whether the object was moving or non-moving (which helps one not run into things), there's also quite a bit of evidence that the T-Rex's sight was extremely good, very possibly better than modern-day hawks and eagles.
What about velociraptors
@indiatastic
The Velociraptors in the Jurassic Park movies are much larger than the real-life Velociraptors because they are based on the Deinonychus, a larger dinosaur: Real Velociraptors. Were about the size of a turkey, weighing around 7-15 kg and measuring about 2 meters in length.
Jurassic Park Velociraptors
Were much larger than the real-life Velociraptors and were based on the Deinonychus, a larger dinosaur. Michael Crichton, the author of Jurassic Park, was inspired by Gregory S. Paul's 1988 book Predatory Dinosaurs of the World, which labeled Deinonychus as a Velociraptor species. In the novel, Dr. Grant even tells Tim that the Deinonychus is a type of Velocome saying that the films also get the raptor hands and wrists wrong, with the wrists oriented so the palms face each other.
Real Velociraptors measured approximately 2 feet (0.61 m) in height and 6 feet (1.8 m) in length. The franchise, however, depicts the animal as being larger than its real-life counterpart. The raptors' fictitious design is actually based on the larger Deinonychus.
FUNNY JHYAD JURASSIC PARK (1993 ) FILM - MOVIE REACTION - FIRST TIME WATCHING !!!!!
Regarding your intro about Jurassic World, I honestly like it _almost_ as much as this one, and this is an unpopular opinion, but I actually like it more than The Lost World (the second Jurassic Park). If you decide to go through the franchise, I recommend rematching Jurassic World, especially after watching the Jurassic Park series.
hope you look into the rest of the Jurassic Park movies and then recatch back up with world.
yuh Jurassic Park was a book written by Michael Crichton. He also wrote The Lost World. I wasn't a big reader growing up.. I read some books, but I did read both of those in my teen years and remembered really enjoying them and that they were even way more darker and violent and gripping than the movies. Anybody who likes reading books and you like suspenseful books you should read both Jurassic Park and The Lost World.
now look at you :D
🦕🦖🦕 yeah
Koo koo i ain't trippn.
Yee I'll be here posted...slide
