Welcome back! I also have a Vanishing Point and Moonman A1. My A1 has an incredible nib, very smooth. The only difference I see between the two pens is that I’m not concerned about using the A1 as an EDC.
Welcome back. Interesting pen to show. I am always surprised that a Chinese pen company would clone a pen like this. Wonder if they are making Vanishing Points & decided to brand some as their own. Either way, it provides us with options. Stay safe & healthy.
Good to see you back. Worth pointing out that you can get A1s in a clipless version, which was a game changer for me. Mine has performed brilliantly. Smooth, dependable and never the slightest leak. Hope you enjoy your new home.
Welcome back! Glad you were just gone for a while and not "gone" gone. Thanks for your take on the send in the clone Moonjohn, Maman, etc. The spare cartridges are a nice touch.
Welcome back! I had an extra Pilot VP nib unit, so the Moonman A1 was perfect. I've been using it and liking it. I got one sans clip for variety's sake. It seems pretty well built, and I have no qualms about carrying it and using it for whatever.
Good to see you back again and, yes, you have been missed! I like that Moonman A1 (or should we call it a Majohn or something?). Nice choice of ink too.
I was surprised that you took a surprise hiatus, I assumed you got burnt out, but it's good to see you're back. As for the pen, I like it. Copy or no copy, it's pretty well built, I personally didn't have any issues with the feed leaking or drying out as some other have, then again I tend to take those statements with a grain of salt due to human error. My only problem was I tried giving the EF nib a italic but grind too much material (what little there was) and now it's kinda unusable, once I sell of some of my pens I plan to buy a Broad VP nib unit as well as another A1 in a different color (I got the clipless Black). Now I just have to decide what tone/color I want for the VP nib, Silver or Black?
I actually love the pilot vanishing point and so this A1 was right up my alley. I was able to get a yellow A1 and have been loving it (I could not find a retailer that offered the yellow Pilot VP) even though the EF A1 writes like a F. I'm seriously contemplating buying a second pilot EF nib unit just because Pilot makes my favorite EF.
I lost my original Namiki VP (the original before updates and before Pilot took over the brand, with the all-plastic rear barrel that would crack if screwed too tight) and recently replaced it with a Moonman A1 and am generally pretty satisfied. The body is IMO better than the original Namiki as the metal ferrules mean that the barrel will not crack. The nib isn't as nice, but still quite decent.. I may eventually replace it with a Pilot nib unit but am happy with it for now... One trick I discovered with my all black A1 is that with the nib retracted, the pen actually works as a capacitive touch screen stylus! If you touch the slanted bit on the bottom to your screen, it will work as a stylus! Don't know if works with other styles that may have a plastic barrel, but the all black appears to be powder coated metal, so that may be a factor...
I have one of these rascals on order from a seller on Alibaba for only $30. I am sorely tempted to buy a Pilot VP nib unit for it to create a cheap version of the venerable Vanishing Point. I already have two genuine VPs so I am very interested to see how this thing compares. Thanks for the excellent review!
Wow, this pen is really nice. I just placed an order for one, at $65CAD it is hard to beat. I have had the VP on my radar for some time but it was hard to bite the bullet on a $185CAD pen even though it is top notch. Hoping my vivid black, capless A1 will do the job.
Pilot is Pilot, never had any problems with Pilot. Considering that Pilot has gold nib and probably marginally better body 65 vs 185 doesnt sound so good. xD
A few commenters are talking about leaking from the nib unit. Mine hasn't done this in a couple of weeks of daily use, so I assume it's a QC problem. Anyway, I just watched another A1 review video on the channel Q-Vision Studios where he had the leaking issue, and fixed it with silicone grease. I don't know if I can link directly to it -- YT comments seem to filter links out -- but searching for "Q-Vision Moonman A1 review" should find the video I mean. Hopefully, it might help some of you with leaky pens.
Good to see you back. I was getting concerned something was wrong health or otherwise. I have seen Doug's video where he replaced the core nib component with the Pilot set up to get a decent pen. It worked but I'd rather just get a Pilot in the first place.
The Pilot Capless, available in non US markets (of course🙄), comes with a steel nib, but it's about 90.00 US. Some reviewers have pretty serious issues with the A1 nib,b but yours seems not too bad in terms of how it writes. There have, however, been some pretty grim pictures of encrustation that far exceeds creep. Is yours still behaving well?
Greetings from Australia. Great Video. Thanks very much. I have been dithering over the past few weeks about buying the A1 and then I viewed Doug's review which was quite scathing. So today I pressed the button on the Pilot Vanishing Point. I suppose it can be hit and miss with pens from China but I will reconsider buying one. Good video.
@@i.c.3157 I just wish they had better qa. QC is expensive and lots of Chinese manufacturers skimp on that, but if they only put some of that saved money into QA it would make a huge difference (or at least give us a way to report about issues)
@@Seefood73 I'm with you there, which is why I put a bit of emphasis on the word 'quirk'. The sad thing is, QC will always be an issue with (most) Chinese pens since there's no figure head for brands like Hero, Delike, Moo-john, Jinhao, Wing Sung/WingSung, Lorelei, Fuliwen, Hongdian, etc... Without a figure head, there really isn't anyone to hold accountable which has been an issue back then and will continue to be one today, most of them probably only care about making a buck an couldn't care whether their product is shit or not, I mean look no further than Hero's catalog of throwaway pens. Granted some blame should also be put on the consumer an it can be argued on content creators too, for not at least making their viewers aware of the risk when buying Chinese pens but that's debatable. Back to the consumers, they should at least do a bit of research on the risks of buying Chinese pens or any pen from any where in general, before whipping out the trusty ol' credit card after just watching one good review. Sorry for the rant.

Very glad to see that you’re back Alan!

Welcome back, Alan! My A1's nib unit leaked all over the place. I replaced it with a 14k Pilot 1.0 black stub unit and it is marvelous now!
Sorry to hear that...mine has been working well so far. I guess I just got "lucky."

I wish Moonman made a black and white one. Those two pens look so good together.
I want to echo everyone else and say Welcome Back! I was worried about you.

One reviewer had issues with it, and most people (in fountainpen forums) seem to be impressed by the quality of the pen.
Capless is an EU name for Vanishing point. Its not steel nib.
I'm telling you these perform literally the same as the pilot vanishing point!!............. maybe better, it has UNRELENTING writing consistency!

Clone is a polite term. Blatant copy.
A pretty good copy at that.
An almost perfect copy, the threads match, all the parts are interchangable. The only problem is the feed leaks ink and that's annoying as hell. I
