I loved that film. it is such a treat and even though it is decades old now, it stands the test of time. RIP Carrie Fisher, Nora Ephron and Bruno Kirby.
"I'll have what she's having" may be the the most memorable line of the movie. But for me, it is the end love scene when Harry tells Sally that he loves her. The, he lists all the reasons why he loves her ending with the crescendo: "I came here tonight because when you realize that you want to spend the rest with someone, you want the Rest of your live to start as soon as possible!" For me, the greatest love scene in cinema.
This is the perfect romcom in my eyes and was the blueprint for every single one that came after. I saw it for the first time just a few years ago and the script and jokes still felt so fresh almost 35 years later. They couldn’t have casted two people more perfect for the role with genuine chemistry like Meg and Billy. There will never be another like it.
"I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible." I know, in the movie, Billy says that the final line in Casablanca is the best line of a movie ever, but honestly? I think this one beats it out. :)
Completely agree! And I'm blown away that Billy came up with this line (a line that is not noted in other videos) --- he gets the biggest laugh and most tender lines in the movie --- both improv ideas from Billy Crystal ---- Wow!!!
Wow! We did know about Billy's contribution of "I'll have what she's having" ---- but to hear at the end of this that he also came up with two great parts of the NY speech "the crinkle over your nose" and more importantly ---- best line ever --- "When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody . . . . you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible." --- The most emotional cap of a line. Brilliant. --------- So this is the best insight of all the nostalgic UA-cam clips on this wonderful movie. :-) It makes me treasure all the more that I have a signed poster from the main four cast members PLUS signed by Rob and Nora --- a treasure I'll always cherish.
Cost $14.5 million and made $92.8 million. Great profit in 1989 for a great classic romantic comedy. It had it's own magic! Meg was so sweet and beautiful.
have watched this movie many times.... loved it every single time.... could (and very well might) watch it many more times and love it every single time. Big fat thank you's to ALL.
Im so glad I found this. I love the film and think that its a classic. I still laugh and remember all the lines. Its funny to hear that Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal...at the time of filming...were considered new! Perfect casting and writing. Its spot on and terrific.
Wow, I didn't know that great line was Billy Crystal's. That's awesome, I always thought that line was the whole idea behind the film and the story was just an excuse to deliver it... I was wrong.
My favorite movie and You've Got Mail is right up there too. I'm so glad they put Harry and Sally together, though. They belong together!!!! #Harryandsallytogetherforever
I mean, there are a lot of people who get into relationships and cheat or get cheated on. Probably half of them. So we cant say the most heard is the right way or the expected way. It may not feel "realistic" but I think the bigger discussion is whether or not people are committed to working on themselves and being better people and not just finding people who are okay w who they are. For example, Sally helped her friend stop chasing someone who didnt love her. And their friends jumped at the chance of being together cos they knew it was good. They didnt let their bad experiences or lack of, deter them but rather, make them understand what was a good thing. Whereas Sally and Harry are avoidant (for good reasons up to a point) but have to learn how their own traits played a role in their fight and how to make up. Harry wasnt good w his words and feels like intention overrides impact, whereas Sally wasnt honest about her feelings and says it was a mistake when really thats not what upset her and she should have talked about how it made her feel for him to get up and leave so early. People remain stagnant for reasons and a lot of times, its because of themselves. We can point the finger all we want but we are complicit in things just as easily. The ending difference is like la la land vs when Harry met Sally except la la land is not gradual and starts off romantic. But the whole point is that in la la land, they didnt actually communicate how things made them feel and assumed things as well, whereas Harry and Sally at the end of the day DO talk and listen even if they came at it from different places. Im glad that they made them be together because there is so much unhealthy romantic relationships, stories where ppl are forced together as enemies and fall in love, and heartbreak and when Harry met Sally is about two people growing alongside one another, w each other's support, and falling in love. Maybe its not the average (again, bc of what we are willing to accept) but its genuine and I love it. Its realistic, hopeful, fun, genuine, and its one of my favorite movies.
Nora Ephron and her sister wrote this perfect love story for the modern world. She also wrote of her love affair with the Althorp, a tale only a highly educated upper class Jewish woman could have conveyed. A true genius.
So basically Billy Crystal wrote the best lines in the movie? He should get screen writer’s credit. Perhaps that’s why this movie is, for me, in a different league than You’ve Got Mail and Sleepless in Seattle.
Exactly. Floored to learn of his contribution to the ending --- (and I'm guessing, it was decided to NOT mention that in all the other clips on WHMS reunion clips).
Blessed people. I’d love to have such a partner to work with, talk about story/life, and generate something wonderful together. They talked of Cafe Luxembourg at (8:00) which is my favorite lunch spot in Upper West Side, New York. What I lack/want is not a woman, but someone to work with closely. - NYC, 12/9/2020
What would be an alternate topper to “I’ll have what she’s having”? (Which is of course is the best) • “Am I too late to get a little something on the side?” • “He couldn’t have waited until hers came?” • “Of course at the diner, he doesn’t have the ingredients for that at home.”
I just saw More Than Friends with Rob Reiner and Penny Marshall [James Burrows behind the scenes] and wondered about it as an antecedent of When Harry Met Sally. Hoped Reiner would address a connection and it can't only be in my own mind. Great to hear the foment of creative people combining ingredients to make the film meal.
Aw I loved this. It's so evident how much Rob Reiner loved and admired Nora Ephron. Such a loss.
B
According to her sister Delia, Rob screwed Nora on the next screenplay she brought to him.
@@sebeckley Which one was that?
This is how creative minds work! And funny minds even more rarely come together this well! Bravo
I loved that film. it is such a treat and even though it is decades old now, it stands the test of time. RIP Carrie Fisher, Nora Ephron and Bruno Kirby.
What a lovely tribute to their work and their friendship

Same, I think that scene at the end is some of the most romantic dialogue ever written/spoken. 😍
And with the unlikely hero of Harry.

I could listen to these two talk all day. Loved this movie. One of my all time favorites and so great to hear the little details of how it came to be.
My favorite movie of all time. I love hearing them talk about how they came up with the idea for it.
"I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible." This discussion adds another layer of brilliance to what is already a masterpiece of film comedy!
it's very heartwarming to see this
Finding this has made my day on a level I could not have imagined. Enormous thanks for posting this.

This conversation is so rich.
watching this reminds me so much of the scenes of the married couples talking about how they met
Thank u Nora & Rob🌷It's amazing to hear about the creative process behind the scenes...even if briefly
Thank you for sharing. 😊👍
They are just like their respective characters.
She was an imaginative, brilliant story-teller.

This is a gem.
Men "fake listen." That is so funny. And I never even realized how true that is.
D Tschuor yea and women fake organisms, so I guess that makes us women and men even. LOL
Excuse me, what did you say?
@@johnperrigo6474 "organisms" lol
They check it out well.
Bruno Kirby was such a great actor.
In The Freshman too.
They are wonderful. I love you Rob you´re GORGEOUS!
Legendary movie
Absolute GREAT movie.
Nora and Rob are the movie in the interview RIP NORA
Two great thinkers, he is so personable and she has such a mind.
Wow, I didn't know that great line was Billy Crystal's. That's awesome, I always thought that line was the whole idea behind the film and the story was just an excuse to deliver it... I was wrong.
Agreed. Floored to just hear this.
Billy Crystal is a comedic genius. A million thanks to Billy for sharing his impeccable humor. Bravo.
Seems like such innocent times ...loved the movie
One of the best date movies of all time… ❤
You have to stick it in 3 times. 😂 Nora
My favorite movie and You've Got Mail is right up there too. I'm so glad they put Harry and Sally together, though. They belong together!!!! #Harryandsallytogetherforever
I find You've got Mail to be better. This is also a wonderful movie nonetheless.
Both are great but Harry & Sally was a totally original script and more funny, according to me

Stellar performances from all Crystal, Ryan, Kirby and Fisher
The film I’d love to see…
When Rob met Nora.
Nora Ephron and her sister wrote this perfect love story for the modern world.
She also wrote of her love affair with the Althorp, a tale only a highly educated upper class Jewish woman could have conveyed. A true genius.

That was a successful movie. I had no idea this was Meg Ryan’s breakout role 😮
So Sally is Nora? Nora actually orders food like that?? This is hilariously revealing!! 🤣🤣
When men and women are friends they actually do spend most of the time tall about relationships
What would be an alternate topper to “I’ll have what she’s having”? (Which is of course is the best)
• “Am I too late to get a little something on the side?”
• “He couldn’t have waited until hers came?”
• “Of course at the diner, he doesn’t have the ingredients for that at home.”
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
OMG!! The documentary featurette that came on the DVD is PRICELESS!! Explains everything in hilarious (and truthful) detail.
You were not going to win a friendly argument with Nora. She was a first-born.
Each relationship each person is different .
The three dots. That's an ellipsis.
Watching genius❤
Great
how was Meg Ryan cast? who else was considered?
Tex Ritter's daughter, Thelma.
I just saw More Than Friends with Rob Reiner and Penny Marshall [James Burrows behind the scenes] and wondered about it as an antecedent of When Harry Met Sally. Did you watch it(the movie w. Rob and Penny) on tv or is there a DVD for it?
MaBa, I will have to check that movie out. I don't recall the name.
Oh my god what was Rob Reiner’s dating life like???
a sequel? when harry left sally?!
rip...both are gone...
Reiner is still alive.
Yeah I haven’t heard he died
You may be thinking of his father, Carl Reiner
We've lost three (writer, Nora, and cast Carrie and Bruno) --- rest are with us --- and no, no sequel required. :-)
Rob Reiner has the worst memory. He gets these stories wrong all the time.
Just like Harry.
meathead is not much different in real life.
He hates Trump.
