Few words are needed to describe this performance. Frankly, should one not get why this stage itself leaves you speechless, no word would do it. A great number of people learned of Sohyang because of her phenomenal voice, but many soon found out the beautiful soul in this person that make us admire her even more. In spite of surviving the impact of cancer, Sohyang kept no bitterness or resentment but lives her life with the intent to offer joy and support to others while following her faith with honesty and humility. She gives hope that we may find the inner fortitude and trust we witness in her somehow.
So far you have watched Sohyang's amazing staged performances, and there are many more. However, I'd suggest you consider her recent cover of Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You" in 2020. Sohyang joined a group of artists to do busking in South Korea to provide some joy to the people during this period of pandemic. It's a different ambient from what you have seen so far. This is my absolute favorite song and performace by dear Sohyang! She is really pouring her heart, soul and emotion into the lyrics and brings the hope, comfort and love to her audience! I did cry the first time hearing this song...moved me so much! SHE is my Queen of Singers!

She was diagnosed with ovarian cancer as a newly married at 20/21 year old, underwent surgery for the left and they found it on the right also, so removing the tumours saved her life but left her infertile. She struggles with recurring phenomena and I read the operation also gave her hepatitis B. This is why she sings for God who saved her life and for peoples healing and comfort because she understands their pain and this comes across in her songs. I try and avoid clips where she looks sick because she often continues to sing even while recovering from pneumonia. She asks if fans will continue praying for her health.

@@BeardedReactions FYI, this song was originally sung by another Korean diva back in 70's named Yoon Bok Hee (gospel singer). Many singers tried this song but no where near like So Hyang. She said in interview that this was the hardest song she ever sang due to the difficulty of breath control. This was by far her best of best. Always love to see your reaction on So Hyang. The control she has that not many notice, is when she can sing through a decrescendo, and not move the mic away from the mouth like MOST singers have to, because they do not have the supurb control that SoHyang does. She is the best on the planet... PERIOD!!

This is like a 7-8 minutes long master class in the art of singing. She truly pours out her very heart and soul here and from what i've been reading she said that this was very challenging to sing for her. If a super pro like Sohyang says this was very challenging although she definetely killed it i'd say it's a "don't try this at home" song!!

She is a survivor of cervical cancer at the age of 20 just prior to getting married. I forget exactly when but she became a serious Christian prior to her diagnosis. She speaks about 4 different languages, is an incredible cartoonist and she has written I believe 2 or 3 fiction novels. She also did the Korea and version of Disney's Moana. (You can find a video of that on UA-cam) She wants to use her voice to bring healing and comfort to those who are hurting or going through hard times.

What amazes me the most in this performance is that this is 7 minutes of nonstop singing.
There's no instrumental break (i.e., guitar riffs. etc.) here, just her voice for the entire duration with few minutes of full-throttle belting.
Unless you are completely immersed in the emotion and your vocal cord is fit to perform, this is just not possible for an ordinary singer.

I remember when I saw that episode of immortal songs 2, there was three powerhouse singers on that night. Kim So Hyang, ALi, and sonnet son, either one should have won that night but instead they gave it to a cheat (the guy they showed with a smug look) by inviting his family, friends and fans to vote for him because in all honesty he totally was horrible that night. I along with many fans of the show were very upset that had happened. So hyang one of my favorite female vocalists. Her performance of “ everyone” was beyond amazing. But I have a request that you react to her closest and best friend, “Park Ki Young”, I like Park Ki Young because they have about the same vocal range but Park Ki Young is a tad more versatile and can belt them with equal emotional impact and power in rock, pop, soul, jazz flamenco, and classical ( opera).
“ So hyang”
receives a lot more reactors and reactions than Park Ki Young”
because of her ability to sing some American songs in English which she performs with emotional impact.
But please don’t judge a vocalist by the number of requests you receive-altho your fans are usually right.
But I’m a professional singer and my singing friends unanimously agree that both So Hyang and Park Ki Young are not only world class vocalists but equal in talent.
