I bought the cage for my a7siii and I absolutely hated it! between the price, the fact it only has one point of contact on the camera, the dials are painfully frustrating to turn, the cage itself it’s unbearably uncomfortable on long days filming, I don’t understand why they didn’t make the handle able to function left & right.. I can go on… The new small rig professional series a7siii cage (I think it’s called) looks great and doesn’t look to interfere with the dials, which is exactly what you want from the a74 - quick on the fly access to your settings! but I’ll probably go with the small rig half cage on my a74 as I ended up just taking the Tilta off my a7siii and putting the regular small rig a7siii cage on which I love 🤌
Great video, Thanks! I’ve always used Smallrig cages but I think I’m going to try out the Kondor Blue cage for my A74, when it arrives. I already use several of their accessories and they work great.
@jason morris - i love how you modify this cage to fit the a7iv, if by any chance have you tried if the a7m4 can also fit in the Smallrig Black Mamba Cage for the A7siii? i really like that cage but i own a7m4 and not a7siii.
Question: Hey Jason, new subscriber and new owner of SONY A7IV. I tried to find the Smallrig matt box link you mentioned in video...did I just miss it? THANK YOU for the great content that's helping this new to the Sony, and video production, a lot!
Hey Jason love the channel and have been learning lots from you. I am a baking instructor and content creator. To step my game up I just grabbed the Sony A7IV in hopes of hitting up UA-cam and making better content on my IG/TikTok. This might be a little basic for you, but would you ever make a 101 type of video using this camera?
Great video, Jason. I'm waiting for my A7iv to ship, so I'm absorbing as much information and suggestions for the A7iv I can before it arrives. About the dummy battery, does the A7iv have a hole in the battery door to accommodate it, or do you just let the battery door hang down?
No. This I forgot to mention. There is no hole for the dummy battery. Pretty annoying and certainly not weather sealed but neither is the monitor and V mount plate. So no loss there
Great video, you are providing some great information while I wait for mine to come to Canada. I was hoping to see you put the dummy battery into the A7IV though. It seems they got rid of the flap that lets the cord through on the battery door, do you have to leave the battery door open to use the dummy battery?
Yes unfortunately. But the V mount plate and monitor aren't weather proof so I wouldn't be in hectic weather anyway with this setup. Most times with these conditions the camera should be covered as you will see in other professional film sets
Yes I noticed this with theMagicrig cage for my As7iii that the A7iv does not fit, even though we all heard they are The same bodies… Not True ! Back screens are not the same size either.
Why the hell did they NOT PUT a third screw mounting point on the right side of the cage. it makes the damn thing wobble a bit and just doesn't feel secure. Unbelievably frustrating, plus i'm obsessive compulsive so that doesn't help. lol.
Only consider this if it suits your purpose because of all the cons and compromises. Otherwise, like most UA-cam "Pros" and others you'd be better off with A1, A7SIII, FX3 and so on.
its same Sony A7III. if you have sony a7III now and buy 74. you see same issue. you notice nothing. but you have a7s3 or A1 you see the issue is big deal. other word, if you not care the isssue with a73, you coming not care with a74.

Thanks for the comment William. I love the reasoning. All good criticism comes with explanations. I will pin this
Best cage for Sony a7 IV Cinema rig with Matbox perfect
Great video!
plz do video on external recording ProRes vs All i codec with a7iv
Great idea

Where is the link to the Nitze magic arm?
Surely they'll release an updated cage to address this? Thanks for sharing this.
Smailrig case for A74 come out 10dec 2021.
does this include the extended battery grip cage? I ordered the VG-C4EM grip from the A1 and unsure if a new cage would be needed as well?
@@davincisace9059 no not include and its not work with new one or old one. cuz the case is only for camera body.
It did. It fits pretty much all the new models but doesn't fit snug like the tilta cage.
Is there a handle with a built in clicker for the camera?
@jason morris - i love how you modify this cage to fit the a7iv, if by any chance have you tried if the a7m4 can also fit in the Smallrig Black Mamba Cage for the A7siii? i really like that cage but i own a7m4 and not a7siii.
Thx for the great video! Kondor Blue Cage also very good option.
Absolutely. Cage gear by Kondor Blue
Seeing Jason File a metal on his small rig, is WILD,..... 😆😆😆 Love the content tho...👌
😂😂😂
Why use the siii cage instead of the proper one by smallrig for the a7iv?
Hi Jason
It was great, thanks

Thank you! Really kind words. I'm kind of creating this through all these multiple videos. Got more epic ones to come of this camera
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema Cannot wait Jason, I have a lot to learn and a whole new platform to navigate! Looking forward to it.

What do you think about Ronin 4D?
Hi Jason! i just wanted to ask what battery brand do you suggest for light carry like Sony a7M4?
Jason, phenomenal video. I have a question though: How do you record your audio? K3m won’t fit with that handle, do you record externally? :0
I record all my audio externally. Just note that this is my B cam and provides me with a different use to most
Is there a chance that tilta is going to make also a full cage for the a7iv, since the a7s iii cage wouldn’t fit without some “optimizations”?
Yes I noticed this with theMagicrig cage for my As7iii that the A7iv does not fit, even though we all heard they are
The same bodies… Not True ! Back screens are not the same size either.
Does tis problem also appear with the half cage?
I wouldn't know, I am sorry. But looks a better fit

late but still here
Counting on you being here
Does anyone know if the atamos ninja v will record regular prores (not raw) from the a7iv?
No. You can record in ProRes but not ProRes Raw. The Sony a7 IV doesn’t not output Raw over HDMI.
Only consider this if it suits your purpose because of all the cons and compromises. Otherwise, like most UA-cam "Pros" and others you'd be better off with A1, A7SIII, FX3 and so on.
Every camera has its pros and cons. I have explained these reasons in a previous video
confused because the dimensions are exact same in every aspect down to the millimeter
so is there something tilta did? bc small rig fits perfectly
Hey Jason Can You Please Tell Me... Is There Any Rolling Shutter ISSUE with Sony A7iv??? Did You Notice???
its same Sony A7III. if you have sony a7III now and buy 74. you see same issue. you notice nothing. but you have a7s3 or A1 you see the issue is big deal. other word, if you not care the isssue with a73, you coming not care with a74.
Rolling shutter can easily be fixed in post as well, using rolling shutter repair in premiere or resolve
