Watch Gunpowder (2017), it is a good show on the state of the country at the time. Beautifully made with a lekker soundtrack. Infused with a lot of Catholic imagery and largely accurate.
"the state of the country at the time"... beset on both sides by Papists and Nonconformists while the Anglican majority were, and still are, those, both catholic and protestant alike, who accepted the Elizabethan settlement as it made great accommodation for both traditions... hance why Anglicanism is catholic and reformed.
Because Guy Fawkes was a Catholic and to make the Catholic nature of the Gunpowder Plot more pronounced. Sadly there aren't any pro-Guy Fawkes songs (at least none that I know of) so I had to settle for this protestant one.
@@IanVonRed Guy Fawkes was a Papist, (everyman and his dog knows it), he did not accept the Elizabethan settlement... just like the Nonconformists. Don't pretend that there is no theological continuity with the medieval Anglican church as part of the wider catholic church and the post reformation Anglican church... were our as much Catholic as the Roman church... our protest is that the Pope hath no authority over our English church.
It is worth mentioning that Guy Fawkes changed his name to Guido in Spain, to make it sound more catholic
Guy Fawkes was the last man to visit Parliament with good intention!

Whats the flag in the background?
It was a banner used during the "Pilgrimage of Grace", a Catholic revolt in the north of England in 1536.

@@IanVonRed very cool, will do some research
why the flag of the catholic insurrection in the background for a protestant song?
