Hiking 44 Miles Across the Grand Canyon | Rim to Rim to Rim

- We did it! RIM 2 RIM 2 RIM.
Across the Grand Canyon and back. 44 miles with 24,000 feet of ascent/descent. 80 degrees in the valley and 30 with snow at the peak (8300 feet). 20 hours.
The journey was 100% self supported. Carry your own food (20 hours worth), filter water from the rivers, and don’t stop moving. I loved learning about how much water to carry, how much to eat, the supplies needed, etc.
It was my first trip to the Grand Canyon. This country offers so many amazing national treasures. Highly encourage everyone to get out and see as much of our country as you can. The lakes, oceans, mountains, trials, cities...all of it.

JESSE ITZLER only eats fruit 'til noon, loves Run-D.M.C., and enjoys living life "out of the box." In fact, he doesn't even have a box. The author of the New York Times bestseller, Living with a Seal, cofounded Marquis Jet, the world's largest private jet card company which he and his partner sold to Berkshire Hathaway/NetJets. Jesse then partnered with Zico coconut water, which he and his partner sold to The Coca-Cola Company.
He's a former rapper on MTV and wrote and performed the NBA's Emmy Award-winning "I Love This Game" music campaign and the popular New York Knicks anthem "Go NY Go." When he's not running ultra-marathons, eating vegan food or being a dad to his four kids, Jesse can be found at the NBA's Atlanta Hawks games, where he's an owner of the team. He is married to Spanx founder Sara Blakely.
I watched this from my comfy bed so it’s like the opposite of a misogi. What a solid group of people pushing themselves. Love it!
Hahaha. Thanks
Just did this 2 weeks ago, it’s no joke. Awesome job!
wild. i also just did this 2 weeks ago. and yes. no joke!! we didn't have snow though... and it was like 105 at the bottom.
Same! The heat was like a blow dryer in the middle, never cramped so hard in my life when I was in the home stretch.
I’m doing this for the first time in August, training now. Jesse, I absolutely love all of your content. Inspiring, educational and honest. Thank you for all you share and for the insight into your life. It continues to motivate me to push to greater things. Well done, sir!
Thanks so much Tim. Means a lot.
Best of luck on your trip, hopefully this recap helps
@@jesseitzler4 Thank you sir…your recap absolutely will help!
I’m doing this next year with a buddy! Thanks for the tour. “Easy Day”!!!
I want to hike the Grand Canyon❤ I remember the first time I was there, I cried couldn’t believe how beautiful and vast it is!
Yes!!! Proud of you guys. Love the humor and gratitude ❤
6:33 truly thought he was relieving himself in the background
This is something I definitely want to do!! Y'all smashed it!! Nice job!!
Amaaazing video and so cool to watch and follow your experience. Good vibes all around! Congrats!
Love this!! It’s on my short list so love seeing the visuals for confirmation bias!
Wow, more of these videos, Jesse
will do. Appreciate the feedback
Feels like I’m there!
Can’t believe they all made it. Many didn’t look like the endurance type. Very impressive
I love this video
We did this a month or so after you did. We ran into many issues with all the water being off and closures on the north rim we had to dance around at certain times etc. Thanks for the video and re-living it. EVERYONE has to do this in their life!
Appreciate it. It's a bucket list trip for sure
I’ve done it once in November and once a few weeks ago (May 20) it was a mind-bender for sure…the spring run was way more favorable weather-wise…did some heat exposure protocol a few weeks out and a bunch of grinding miles all year…can’t wait for the next one!
It's INSANE isn't it
So fun to watch the recap. Gotta give it to Taylor. She can hang with the men! You go girl!!!
Taylor held it down!
Nice. I do it every other year. Sometime with a virgin sometimes alone. Taking my youngest (29) this September- gonna have him watch your video so he fully understands what he’s in for 🤪🏃♂️🏃♂️
(Hint: wear layers - don’t over dress, no hiking boots! Broke in comfy running shoes, check trail water status- carry filter if necessary)
So awesome I just hiked the south rim last fall and would’ve love to do this with a crew!! So cool
This is awesome! I’m running my first 50k trail run in 2 days and this has me fired up 🔥🙌
Incredible guys!
How'd it go?!?
@@jesseitzler4 awesome experience! finished in 8 hours 15 mins
Congrats! This is awesome!
Thank you!!
Two types of people in the world, those who have done r2r2r and those who haven’t. In this particular case going back wasn’t optional. But when the North Rim opens you see people tapping out and taking the shuttle back. Dropping back down that second time takes a special kind of person. One who is willing to challenge themselves in a unique way and embrace the suck. Nobody can take those steps for you.
I’m just getting into ultramarathons from being an active hiker. I just love being trained up and being able to do cool stuff on a whim. A friend called a couple weeks ago and said he wanted to do r2r2r, we were there just a couple days later doing r2r2r. That is an awesome feeling at 52. I don’t know about the misogi stuff, I want to do more lol. Rae in a day (48 mi loop), Mt Whitney from Horseshoe Meadows (38 mi), Dock to dock Trans Catalina trail (get off the early morning boat in Avalon, run to 2 harbors and catch the later boat), Speedgoat, Kodiak 100k, that is all on my list this year. Getting those miles in while I can.
Thanks for sharing your adventures, see you out on the trails 💪
As it is with most endurance events. Hard to prepare what your body and mind will truly go through. Exactly right.
Appreciate the comment
The vibes and energy on that whole thing was amazing. That hike is no joke, nicely done. Good new wondering if there’s a Guinness World Record for largest group to do Rim2Rim2Rim in 24 hours.
Now I'm curious
Rad video....I'm doing this in 10/24...
Thanks a lot. Best of luck out there
nice work, I was surprised on how slow we were going down South Kaibab Trail and was way over our planned pace 🙂
That's a lot of walking and sweat?
This will be my 2025 misogi putting the group of guys together right now!
Love it!!
Great...! Wondering what nose bridge apparatus that one feller had on for opening the nose air passages?
Dream Recovery
LOL... this was awesome! Congrats to all of you! Great job on an absolutely brutal haul.
I was there a week ago to do my annual Rim2River as an XC run, and sent it pretty hard. I'll be back, mid-Aug., to celebrate my 61st, and send another Rim2Rim as a marathon distance, from the NR Lodge Lobby. That'll be #13. My daughter and I ran our first one in 2015, on her 16th. I'd turned 53 the day before. Love running there. Vids on the channel.
Shoutout Chris and the Miwok 100k shirt!
Yessir!
Great video! I just did a video of my R2R...maybe someday I'll do R2R2R ... maybe...
This is one of my favorite runs of all time
Mine as well
my son and I did it
Loved it! And @Jesse what did you have instead of a cheeseburger? 😅
Hahah 👀
Mtb bike will make
It ?
I’ve done this 2x - what I want to know is where did you stay - our accommodations is either a crappy motel or an airbnb 40 miles out.
We stayed in Williams the first time and Yavupai Lodge (in the Park) last time…staying in the Park is waaayyy easier…
Yeah - that sounds like the ticket. I’m going to do it a gain in the fall or spring - we ran it the whole time - but it’s a long day!
Why would you need a puffer jacket for r2r2r in the summer lol
It's the desert. It gets cold at night
I'm working 60hrs per week have a wife and four children and you suggest I should do what.......?
hahah. MISOGI!!! Once a year!
I've been living in a cave, I just found out Jesse: shake it like a white girl
Hahaha oh no -Jesse Jaymes
@@jesseitzler4 sorry sir
What’s on their nose?
Must be like a "breathe right" strip, but I haven't seen this particular design before.
Dream Recovery nose strips

Headed there in two weeks with my boys for our annual Misogi. Looking forward to the suck.
What a magical place!
Thanks for making such a great video.
Will be making my fourth crossing with bicycle this fall during the AZTR. Guess I just can’t get enough
Awesome video!
what month did yall do this?
March
Awesome
Thank you
You guys are making this look easy.
Hahah. That was hard. Trust me
24,000ft gain and decent, 20 hours...INSANE!
"WeDoHardStuff" mentality! 💯🫡
I miss the old "WeDoHardStuff" group. Still have my hat and T-shirt!
