    I just acquired this model from a local estate sale a few days ago. Made an offer of $200 and it was accepted😁 Beautiful clock and has a history of being regularly serviced. Chimes sound beautiful and one can barely hear it running. Bought it as a Mother's Day gift, but my dad hates clocks with chimes or "ticking" sounds🙄... So it now sits on my mantle.

    I neglected to mention that you may be able to find this style Howard Miller (#612-436), used on eBay for around $200.

      $200 is the low end. $300 to $500 is more reasonable for a clean example.

    Hello. I'm getting this clock for my birthday. I am totally blind, would you be able to describe it to me if you can. You describe the clocks better than most people, but I'm getting the clock in a week or so, and just wondering in detail what it looks and feels like. Thank you for the great descriptive videos.

    @ The Clock Guy Hello, I just got one of these nice clocks. Is there a way to pinpoint when they are made? The back cover of mine lifts out, instead of latching in like the one in your video. Mine also has a small brass emblem on the front with the letters "ARC" on it.

    I stumbled upon one of these clocks in a thrift shop. The clock has been removed by the previous owners and all thats left is the wooden box the clock had once say inside of. My question is this. Should i do a restoration replacing the clock or should i turn it into a unique piece of home decor? I generally like to buy things from thrift stores and make new and unique decorative home pieces but this piece has intrigued me since the day i first say it in the thrift shop. Its taken me almost 2 months to find out what it was previously was before it was taken apart . all i have is the external box

      You can actually buy a German-made movement online for that clock you have. They retail anywhere from $200-$400 and include the brass chimes.

      If you want to repair it on a budget you can get a good quartz battery .movement. They definitely are not as nice and charming as the mechanical movements, but they are inexpensive and install easily.

    I got one almost the same as this on Craigslist for $100. I've had it for a couple years and it stopped working. I oiled it with clock oil and it's working again! I don't know if there's a way to speed up time as it loses a few minutes every couple days.

    • @the_clock_guy
      @the_clock_guy  Рік тому +1

      The slowing down is due to the friction from the old thickened oil.
      You really need to clean that out before running the clock again.
      The brass shavings mix with the oil to make a perfect grinding compound which wears away the gear shafts and the bushings they ride in.

    I have my grandfather's clock just like this. It stopped working, I think I may have over wound it. Any suggestions??

    • @the_clock_guy
      @the_clock_guy  4 роки тому +1

      Hi. Clocks being over-wound is a misnomer. It is better understood as, "fully-wound." Being fully wound is not the issue, it is the fact that the clock won't run to allow it to unwind.
      It could be a couple of things. Most common issue is the need for cleaning and re-lubricating the movement.
      99% of the clocks I see that are fully wound just need a good cleaning.
      (Imagine running your car for 100 years [or even 20 years] without changing the oil!)
      Can you send me any pictures?

    My Howard Miller 612-429 7 day wind, 3 wind positions has an all new movement installed. Ran 5 minutes fast every 24 hours, stopped chiming after 4 days and I had to wind the 3 and 9 positions not the 6 o'clock position for the next 2 weeks. Returned the clock to the shop. After having it for 3 weeks they removed the plastic adjustment cover, moved the lever way down on the minus to slow it down. Just got it back from the shop again and it chimes 2 hours past the proper time. 4 o'clock it chimes 6 times and so on. The shop each time said it runs fine. This has been going on for at least 2 months. That and they lost the key. I think the new assembly is bad. Help!

      The chime issue is an easy fix. Mine was chiming 2 hours ahead, so I turned the hour hand forward 2 hours and the problem is solved!

    • @tnmtemerity
      @tnmtemerity 4 роки тому

      Phillip is right. You have to be careful when the minute hand doesn’t sound the right chimes, but you won’t hurt the clock to move the smaller hour hand to the hour it’s chiming.

      If yours has the floating balance wheel escapement like this clock, instead of a usual pendulum, there is an adjustment for positive (gain time) and negative (lose time) on the backplate above the balance wheel. These escapements are more sensitive to wear in the movement, too, so if adjusting to lose time doesn't give you accurate timekeeping, the movement needs servicing.

    Hi Clock Guy. I just acquired my Dad’s Colonial of Zeeland (Michigan) serial number 7904950. From what I read 79 likely is the year made. It is EXACTLY like this one in your video. There’s no diagram on the back. I don’t know how to wind it. Can you help. Three holes. Thanks!

    • @the_clock_guy
      @the_clock_guy  5 років тому +1

      Sorry, I never saw this until just now. I hope you figured out the winding. If not, I usually go to Google and type in the name and style clock I have, and then ad the work instructions. Then I click on images. You may be able to find a similar clock and print out an instructions label for it.

    I have this model clock. Found it in someone’s trash if you can believe that. Quarter chimes and strike trains work well, but clock does not run. All pivot holes seem ok, and I’ve tried lubing it with good cock oil (not too much). Something with the balance assembly is hanging up. I need to find a good clock tech to help me get it going.

    I have/had the windup mantel, and the battery mantel clocks- Howard Miller. Both properly maintained. Bought in 2006. The electric mantel stopped working 2012, the windup is on it's last leg this past year. To fast, now to slow [30 minutes in 24hrs.], stops. These are very expensive clocks. I don't want to pass down junk heirlooms. I would not buy again.

    • @tnmtemerity

    Beautiful..... the only thing keeping me going.... all the hate from everyone, we did mistakes in our life agreed, we even asked forgiveness, you didn’t give forgiveness didn’t you. You kept saying “it’s fine” we offered all we can. We tried to improve. You still hate us!?
    Okay then, if that’s how your gonna treat me I’m okay with that. I don’t need friends after all then, the way I get treated. Listening to these clocks, what you call me a old man, I don’t care. I really don’t care,
