This is a musical with 4 songs.
Quality over quantity.
And all the songs are in the first half of the movie. Once they reached the destroyed village there was no more songs because of the dark tone. I really like the juxtaposition of the movie. It’s a fun movie while also making sure not to romanticise the tragedies of war.
For a movie that runs just a little under an hour and a half 4 songs is actually already a lot. Mulan was never really meant to be a musical. They were planning to make it a straight movie till the Disney execs make them put songs in it since every other movie from the Disney Renaissance have them. Mulan is less musical and more a movie that happened to have some musical numbers in it, cause it wouldn't be Disney without those apparently. Of course, it turns out quite good like most of Disney back then
My favourite part is when Mulan sings a line and you go from your chest voice to your head voice in such a quick change, it’s very satisfying.
I'm doing this in a choir concert, and I'm using this to practice my timing! My solo is "boy was I a fool in school for cutting gym"

@@aliciaprieto2391 the actual note in the song isn’t even that high though. I like this song because it’s one of the few songs were all the notes are in my range. Usually they have notes too low and too high for me.
I mean, I’m a soprano too…and so I sing this an octave higher than it should be as well.
But moon doesn’t even go into bell tones…and the low ones are easy peasy lemon squeezy….

As a solid baritone/bass, hitting that final note is one of the most difficult things I have ever done in any song.
