Gotta say, her totally wreaking Leland at the courthouse by exposing his past, and then defending her family against LaRoux were the best parts of the season.
I hate all powerful bad guys who are always 5 steps ahead all the time, even when they have no reason to be. So serving up both Leland and LaRoux felt pretty good.

I was wondering how long the clinic had been operating, and if it would come out that Kristen herself was one of the children, and that her mother had used the clinic....
A few people were wondering about that too. Not sure how old the character Kirsten is supposed to be but I'm guessing mid 30s. She's 40 IRL. The clinic looked like a fairly new facility but I think Alexis is 10-11.

@@happymonday550 Lets just say the show depicts bad actions and tragedies and presents both a purely human and natural world source for them and hints at or alludes strongly to supernatural aspects that could be driving them. The show also does an excellent job of threading and weaving technology and social media as instruments for the promulgation of EVIL whether it is sourced by human beings or by forces outside our natural world.

This show just needs a second season to fill those gaps with well thought plot. I’m just hoping season 2 will be good. I just started and finished watching the manifest on Netflix and that show is a hidden gem. The plot twist and build ups are great. And it has that supernatural vibe

She doesn't always make the best decisions. After what we saw at the end of the episode there might be more at play here.
Not gonna even lie that kinda pissed me off.
She did tell them the importance of not opening the door and to use the peephole to see if it's someone they recognize, though you're right it was not stressed enough. Not for my taste anyway. Then again, there's a whole generation of latch key kids out there (myself included) that lived this way for many years, their older siblings watching over them. I think their eldest daughter Lynn is around 13, just based on her character and guessing that Lexi is maybe about 8-10, hence why she was to look after her sisters if no adults were around. It wasn't made clear if the babysitter Matilda was still there either, though I'm assuming she was not since Lexi called out her name before getting to the door.
That door thing could be for plot reasons, as we've seen both Lexi and Kristen are potentially compromised by the goatman demon, so perhaps they were both subconsciously willing to let him in because he willed them too? Hard to say.
Even the part with leeland dating her mother and getting into her home. Like at that point any rational person/mother would go to the police, tell the husband and make the kids protection her number one priority

I think Kristen has been possessed for while because the cat never liked her. Animals especially cats are known to sense a person’s true intentions and so the cat always hissing when she was around tells us that the cat knew she was possessed/had evil in her even if she didn’t know. That’s also why it liked David’s sweater so much because he’s a good person/child of god.

That’s a really good theory actually! I was thinking that the cat was acting so strangely because it was the demon cat that the girl from the hole in the basement wall in the episode, October 31. I also noticed that after she made the snarky remark that she would kill the cat because it kept making loud hissing noises, it was never heard or seen from again on the show. Not sure if that means she actually killed it, or she became possessed BECAUSE of it, but it could also make sense that she was possessed before that.
So here it is people...The six types of possession as explained by David in episode 3 of season 1.
1. Demonic Possession.
When a demon takes over a person's body without their consent. It involves speaking in tongues,personality change,acts of violence and feats of super strength.
2. Physical Pain.
A sickness or injury due to a demon being inside of someone. It doesn't impact the soul but only the body itself.
3. Diabolic Oppression .
This is when a demon torments a person causing tragic events in their lives via the loss of a loved one,loss of a job,home,etc. The story of Job in the bible is the best example.
4. Diabolical Infestation.
When demonic entities take over a household,object or an animal(pet)
5. Diabolical Subjugation.
When the person invites the demon into their lives. They do this through gameplay(Ouija) or by pledging their soul to the devil. In exchange for power they trade away their future. (I wager that Leland aka "Jake The Flake" did this)
6. Diabolical Obsession.
When a person has constant irrational thoughts causing them to act in perverse ways. It's hard to detect because it's the most functional of the other 5 possessions but it can lead to suicidal tendencies or MURDER.
If our Kristen is indeed possessed,then she's stricken with no.6

Dang it. Season too short
It seems like my favorite shows are the 13 episode seasons vs 22 episodes. I kind of prefer they leave us wanting more than giving us too much with filler episodes.
For the umpteenth time what happened to the friggin cat!? This show is fun to watch but leaves too many loose ends untied.
For example,the mysterious girl on Halloween with the disfigured face when she just disappeared never to be heard from again,the asian woman prophet who got deported but she miraculously appears before David in a vision while he's being hospitalized,and of course Ben's sister who we see once and never see again after the revelation of her having a pregnancy in the past,etc.
The cat is probably the most frustrating of all because it looked as if it was going to play an important role and it just was unceremoniously dropped.

Foodie Eats They don't need to tie them all up in season 1 but on that same note it makes no sense to leave that many behind in the 1st place. Then there's no guarantee that they'll all be tied up in season 2 either.
Grace got taken away by ICE but I hope they bring her back. I'm sure we will see more of Ben's sister in S2. I get the feeling they wanted to keep fake Brenda a mystery so unless they bring her back next Halloween, we'll probably never know if she was a ghost, prankster or real girl with a deformed face. A lot of people were wondering what happened to the cat and why it didn't like Kristen. Not sure if we'll get an explanation for that one.

Anthony Bane FYI...You don't know that for certain. That's your presumption. That hasn't been proven as of yet.
I think Lexis is now suffering from Diabolical Subjugation. The demon mentioned going to the "next level". Here is what I think these "levels" are:
1) Playing on the Ouija board (one of the requirements for diabolical subjugation to take place).
2) Communicating with the demon, perhaps even on more than one occasion.
3) The demon makes you vulnerable by breaking you down through fear.
4) Giving the demon access to your soul / body.
To discuss each of the points above...
1) The sisters did play on the Ouija board in the Haunted Girl AR game. Kristen did stop her children from doing this by asking Ben to put restrictions on the AR devices - but only after they already opened the Ouija board. And more importantly, left it open. They essentially left a communication channel open to the spirit world (or whatever it's called) for a long time. They only closed the Ouija board in the game after their dad helped them do it. But their dad probably had to remove the parental restrictions from the AR devices in order to run the Haunted Girl game again. I think this is significant, because it gave Lexis access to the game again. She could have secretly continued playing on it when Kristen wasn't home, or her sisters weren't looking. I also don't think it's necessary to play on a physical Ouija board for possession to occur, as the series emphasizes how modern technology can be utilized by evil beings.
2) Lexis told Kristen that the demon goat would not hurt her (Kristen). This proves that she has been speaking to it, and that the demon goat is in fact not targeting Kristen, but Lexis. We just don't know to what extent. I also find it creepy that Lexis told her mother this, as the demon was probably trying to gain Lexis' trust by reassuring her that it would not hurt her mother. By earning her trust, the demon also gains more exposure to her.
3) Throughout the series, Kristen's daughters constantly seek out new thrills and scares. This makes them more susceptible to possession. Usually in other horror movies, the entity trying to gain access to it's target will first break the target's spirit through fear, making them easier to possess.
4) When Lexis opened the door for the demon goat, she gave it access to her physical body/soul. Gaining physical access was probably the "next level" that the demon mentioned. When Kristen later came home, and found Lexis lying on the floor, the demon was nowhere to be found, but the door was left open - meaning that the demon won the struggle with the open door (Lexis tried to shut it after opening it). Lexis also lied about what she was doing on the floor, saying that she was waiting for Kristen to come home. Could this have been the demon talking?
What are your thoughts? Interesting series, can't wait for season 2.

Like the only flaw I see in the Lexis being possessed theory is that, right before that happens, we hear the lock turning outside the door.
And if you remember earlier in that episode, Kristen changed the locks
And if you remember even earlier, Leland stole Sheryls keys to the house and gave them to Orson
And then there was that gift basket on the table from Orson
So I don’t really know what to take from all that, but Orson was definitely there at night.
What’s even weirder is that Lexis was never confirmed to be sleeping when entering the door either, we just hear the lock being frustratingly turned and see the goat demon when Lexis shuts off the alarm and opens the door
So who the hell knows what’s going on lmao but that’s why I love this show. We are just in the dark as the characters and it draws you in
Peter Williams or maybe the demon goat tempted Kristen with that gift basket knowing she would go any length to protect her kids. Maybe it was never about Alexis but Kristen. The demon called her up to open the door for Acosta or the demon maybe, maybe the demon even possessed Acosta. Remember Alexis is from that fertility clinic. also the dream Acosta had, the goat was going to harvest Kristen aka the imagery of the grain field and him with the harvester thing sorry forgot the name. The goat wants her soul and the only way to get it is to torment her into sinning aka taking a life. Remember the demon coaching Leland and telling him to wait and follow the plan, I think that’s the plan.

They don’t talk about a lot of the 60. The nurse, “Rebecca”, Ghana, and the marksman are all part of the 60, they don’t want to get too in depth about each one but they want to show that they exist.

I think Kristen started changing the day she basically told Leland to shut up in court. She started becoming dark. The way she shut the door on the mom, how she called the police on Orson. She was right for doing it but everything felt different about her while she was doing it. She became like a tough cold hearted badass out of no where.

You're right about that. In my opinion she was never really s push over though, but she was using her brain over anything physical before. She had definitely become more aggressive which makes me think it could be a dark influence over her after her in virto or perhaps her many encounters with demons like George.

Its funny because I worked in the area where they recorded and I asked a crew member the name of the show and he said Evil. I thought that's probably a shitty show,but boy was I wrong lol. Lots of plot twists and honestly I wanted to kick the grandma for being so dumb 🤣🤣

I remember Orson making a mark on her arm that was pretty bad when he jumped over the table at her. Maybe that's why they jumped back to the very first scene in the last episode. That's where it all started for her possession.
Just as every woman that went to that clinic, She had always been darkly influenced from the time she conceived in vitro. It is her first time grabbing a rosary since she abandoned her catholicism. She was always unknowingly working for the dark one, she just found out. She might no be possessed, but the darkness is growing stronger in her. Hence the cross burns her now.
Well said! It's easy to confuse Kristen's more aggressive tendencies moving forward with character development, maybe her getting a tougher outer shell. But when I think about it, Kristen is NOT a push over whatsoever. As mentioned in the video, she did not hesitate to cut Leland and humiliate him later in the series, and honestly she was cunning and cynical enough to push Orson over the edge in the first episode to make him lunge at her and later to confess that he wasn't possessed when he killed. I agreee that her inner darkness has certainly been growing, and maybe the fertility clinic is making these women sign a deal with the devil against their will or understanding by in virto conception. Perhaps they are unconsciously giving their unborn children to the Devil's army inexchange for a healthy family with other kids and success. Lexi said someone told her she had to be strong and prepared to fight as a warrior, (or something along those lines, I'm paraphrasing 😅). It's also not been specified whether Kristen's youngest daughter, Laura, was also conceived via in virto. This was not specified with the family where the little boy who tried to drown his baby sister- he was concevied via in virto but perhaps the baby sister was not, therefore she was not possessed by the same evil. Could explain why the brother hates her?
That's all speculation, but now that I look back I want to rewatch everything to see of there's been other clues. I think a major one is the fact that Kristen has seen George since she began working for David, and she unconsciously had knowledge of the 60 before they could put all the pieces together as a team. I don't recall her ever telling David about George, except for when Orson was given her therapy notes and described her dream and sexual tension with David during interrogation, but I could be wrong. I think David missed the significance of her seeing a demon in her dreams well before his vision of her in that wheat field. And when that woman Caroline was possesed, she also told David that his visions were not of god, but of the devil. All so complex and juicy, I cannot wait for season 2!
Actually, this was Kristen's second or third time grabbing the rosary. This is the rosary David gave her (when they met in the hallway) before she went in to talk to Orson in the first episode. It didn't burn her when she took it, or when she put it in the garage. So she was only possessed sometime in the episodes following the pilot.

Man this show was something else. It is so refreshing in its own way - I really like how they combine horror with drama with comedy.
It is a fantastic mix of characters, stories and the supernatural.
I wish they would have answered a few more questions they threw at us throughout this season tho.
For example, what happened with the cat and what was his purpose?
What was the story behind the "white angel" in the security camera footage?
Who was the voice on Ben's father's virtual assistant?
Can't wait for season 2!
Also, what about the Kristen's experience with Ben's father's girlfriend having that demon baby? They didn't close that story.
Forgot all about that cat. She did say she was going to kill it lol. I believe the cat is the devils eyes...witches turn into cats so its def. An evil symbolism....
@@Progress24.7 that's an interesting interpretation. My impression was more based on the cat's instincts and intuition, being that animals have a 6th sense. In any good horror movie, animals usually run from or show disdain for bad energy and tend to be very aggressive towards them yet reserved in action. It made my think of my dogs when they sense tension around certain people we see, namely because they sense my discomfort/apprehension or uncertainty towards that individual.

Anyone else notice Kristen kept checking her right wrist the whole time? It appeared to bruised and causing her pain. But her sleeve covered it up so it wasn’t obvious.

This series should switch over to Netflix as the main producer/sponsor instead of CBS. CBS might be too tame to delve into the darker elements of the potential narratives the show has set the table for.
I do like how the show really bounced between the two continuums of human action: 1) we are self-driven, fully autonomous beings, entirely responsible for our actions and conduct and therefore, the consequences; and 2) there are forces at play that manipulate and engineer and provoke and compel wrongful action such that we are driven to sin by such forces and therefore, NOT FULLY responsible for our actions.
The show does not go full tilt on supernatural which is good because human action can be EVIL without reaching into the realm of eternal beings and unseen forces.

David described how it happened in the beggining. Christin just kept ignoring the signs. George was making her lose her mind a little bit at a time. Towards the end of the season we saw Christin was losing time. So she's full on possessed, the demons were using her body to walk around.
The rock in the gand was from the influence of the grandmother which came from leland. Alexis did not want to do it nor did she think it was right. Alexis is aware of what’s wrong with her bit she’s not evil like the boy was. Hence why the goatman said to her “you know why you need to open this door”. Alexis is def aware of whats going on, but her grandmother gave her a talk about “snitches” so she says nothing
Leland sowed seeds around Kirsten
and david's lives (mainly kirsten), I am interested in seeing how they are are going to fight this situation after they realize what's going on and become closer to God. I think the husband is involved in some way. Also, if the producers decide to put Kirstine and David together they need to make sure Kirsten gets divorced first cause I'm tired of the infidelity plot always being used lol

That “dream within a dream” is one of the most overused horror tropes though. I’ve had it a few times in real life, but on screen it’s such a cheap scare I often don’t even pay attention if things seem weird because I’m all like “oh another dream sequence for sure”.
For me seems like they spent all the special effects budget in George demon and didn’t have much for the real devil costume (the baphomet) which is suppose to be the boss of all demons :p
maybe it's meant to show the devil in the flesh it's a different feel than if it was CGI.
I think Kristin became possessed when she killed Orson. The demon had to have someone to take next.. Just my opinion 🤔

I think it e8 that David took Kristen to meet his father, she was wearing a turtle neck and at the end in the taxi she was in a RED tee shirt. No reason for her to have changed her clothes and no response to why she didn't get help for the wife that had the demon baby in the corn field.
dallas schauer they explain the hold demon baby is halllucination she have from drink .they talk in the car. but yeah the clothes changing is not explain I thought they be explain in the end of episode but nope. Either they want to play that a mysterious or they have explaination but did go in the cut.
She was wearing the shirt because David's father gifted it to her. The first thing he said when he met her is that he wanted to paint her a red shirt. I don't remember the clothes changing being explained outright, but I also can't remember if she was already wearing that shirt when she saw Beatrice giving birth in the field. If she was in her original clothes, maybe she got blood on them from trying to help her? That was definitely unclear and never revisited.
She thinks it’s a hallucination... I think it’s real. The baby looks like those demonic nurses and could also tie in to the infected fetuses.
I was thinking that the cat was acting so strangely because it was the demon cat that the masked girl summoned from the hole in the basement wall in the episode, October 31. I also noticed that after she made the snarky remark that she would kill the cat because it kept making loud hissing noises, it was never heard or seen from again on the show. Not sure if that means she actually killed it, or she became possessed BECAUSE of it, but it could also make sense that she was possessed before that.

When Lexis comes to the door, the first thing Baphomet says is, “Matilda?” Also in the script, about 2/3 of the way down. How did he know that Matilda was supposed to be babysitting? www.springfieldspringfield.co.uk/view_episode_scripts.php?tv-show=evil-2019&episode=s01e13 The “next level” is a reference to Baphomet coming out of the Ouija board in Rose390. I like the theory of Baphomet being a vision of Orson. But remember, Lexis saw Baphomet in Kristen’s dream (which was a dread within a dream), and that before getting on the school bus Lexis told Kristen that who Kristen saw in the dream would not hurt Kristen.
I believe Lexis was the one who called out for Matilda the babysitter. Baphomet did not speak until Lexis asked who was at the door. But your prediction is great, I think the ouija board definitely ties into the equation since Lexis and Lynn played the game before the little girls did. And I think it's especially significant that Baphomet told both Lexis and Kristen "you know why" as an answer to their questions, despite the questions being completely different. It will likely all tie into her in virto pregnancy with Lexis and the demons trying to coax her and her children into the darkness.

Who was the girl on Halloween? They need to address that unless I missed something? Cant stand a random loose end that was a major plot in that episode. At first I thought it was rose390 but clearly that doesnt make sense because rose390 was a grown man.

Yes this is probably true. There is a theory he is Baphomet.
I think the "goat man" will actually turn out to have been a "real" person.. but it's shown to us (the audience) as a creature just so we know they're demonic.. it's gonna be a charming intelligent well dressed character who we least suspect.. possibly the sister of the fiance who was killed.. TV shows always like to throw in a "betcha didn't see that coming" twist .. just like Kristen with the pickaxe .. she's WAY TOO SMART to do something so stupid as to kill someone ..no way!

@@jackiesponer5159 no one seems to talk about the fact that David can literally hear Leland in his ear whilst trying to pray or concentrate in his home. This could be interpreted as David's inner demons tempting him personified as Leland, especially since he straight up claimed he thinks Leland IS a demon. Davids's talked about his drug addiction, sex addiction, and we saw his lapse in sexual intimacy with Julia's sister despite being in his 3rd year committed to priesthood. I thought that was sinister in its own right, her trying so hard to persuade him that he shouldn't be a priest just because she's been pinning for him for years. We've seen some examples of the 7 deadly sins in this show, namely pride and lust as well as greed and wrath, arguably in Leland's quest for more power and influence over demons and tormenting women. Could probably throw envy in mix somewhere 🤔

I'm a very late comer to this series and your excellent discussions.
So far it seems to me that Kristen isn't possessed at all and is being written more as a righteous warrior of God or something as all her violent actions appeared justified and are against known agents of evil. The cross burning her could also be a sign of marking her as being a soldier of Christ or something. Extremely interesting series.
i’m thinking that yes in a lot of movies and stories cats have been known to sense the super natural, also we’ve seen kristen hold a cross before with no problem so maybe because of the whole rsm thing, it enabled the demon goat to prey on her then when she killed that one guy with the pickaxe it allowed the demon to enter her body because she committed one of the 7 deadly sins

In episode 6 Grace tells Kristen to avoid wearing red for seven days, and two episodes later David's father paints her a red shirt, and just in that episode she participates in a pagan ceremony and sees a demon being born. For me in that episode she is possessed.
