Had a diamond for 22 yrs, he went blind a year ago. I hand feed him with a bulb syringe of frozen food. He would attack the food at first, then he got used to me feeding him like that. Sadly he finally passed away 2 weeks ago.
Love this fish. Have 2 in my tank and everyone loves watching them. I also have a mated pair of cleaner wrasses and the goby’s open their mouths & gills for the wrasses to clean them. Fun to watch and no litter box sand bed.
I’ve had mine for 3 days and he’s already cleaned up half the sand bed and made a dwelling under a rock with a nice berm around the perimeter. Fun fish to watch. Only complaint is the cloudy water he’s created hoping that clears up after a bit. If you are thinking of getting one of these guys you won’t be sorry.
I love my diamond goby. My next tank I definately need to go a more coarse sand than the Fiji Pink though. Special grade is an option but maybe even slighty chunkier than that.
I like the watchman goby except that fact that the last one I had used to pick up loads of sand then immediately swim up and then spit out the sand everywhere on the coral and rock work. Lol.. I was thinking of trying another one out because like you said they do a great job of sifting the sand bed and cleaning it up.
We sell them in pairs, and keep an upturned clam shell in their tanks. Extremely popular for their fascinating behaviour whereby one of them creates and tends to the outside of clam “house”, the other stays inside and keeps watch, even creating a cute little window, and back door. I particularly enjoy how they don’t dump sand from as high up as some of the other species of Valencienna gobies. 👏
I just got a DW Goby 2 days ago, I'm liking him so far. I have a 75 gallon tank. I was thinking of grabbing the other one we have at PetCo, but now I'm hesitant. I like bottom feeders to help clean up uneaten food. My tank is almost 2 months old.
Used to have a mating pair in my 180 loved when they would hang out together and clean, was sadden when after having them for 8 years one died and the other 6 months later died .
Love these guys! Sadly, just lost mine after having him for about 2 years. He was unfortunately always rather nervous when eating because my yellow coris wrasse would always hover over his shoulder and pick at the sand after. Nothing ever aggressive, no attacks, nothing like that, but my guy just couldn't stand someone watching over his shoulder as he worked. Eventually started coming out less and less. I tried removing the coris wrasse (that was a nightmare) but alas, my goby didn't manage to recover. Here's to hoping I have better luck with his successor.
That’s interesting. I have the same sand and mine makes a mess too. Not sure if its worth it. Sand bed looks like a battle ground. Little guys just digging for gold and striking out each time😂
I have one with automatic daily water changes to complete full tank change monthly oversized uv apex galore chiller the whole 9 he was the last addition to make my tank virtually hassle free for pure enjoyment.
This is an awesome video. I’m going to pick one up tomorrow. Just wondering if you have to bury the pellets in the sand for him to eat it or hand it to him
Hi Deven. Great vid, as always! Love your substrate. The particle size is just what I've been looking for. Would you mind saying what it's called and, if possible, where it can be purchased?
I love and hate my diamond goby at the same time! he does a great job keeping the sand clean but he is constantly covering the corals that are on the sand bed and I always have to blow them off with a turkey baster!
Worried about transferring my watchman goby to my larger tank. I've a fuzzy dwarf a few wrasse and a zebra dart. He's not too small for the dwarf to get him but idk about the wrasse. 1 is kinda dominant and not sure if the darts too similar to the diamond
I'm currently cycling my first tank (around 100 gallons) and thinking about getting two diamond gobys once my tank had some fish in it for some weeks. Is it possible that these gobys actually replace other CuC members so you could actually make a full fish CuC without snails and crabs? Like gobys for the sand, tangs for alge and others?
I love these fish and I have one in each of my tanks but sadly the goby in my biggest tank was bullied to death by a six line wrass and although I tried to remove the fish I found it impossible to catch it until it was too late
I’ve one in my tank for 3 weeks . I barely see him sifting sand . He doesn’t come out when I’m feeding my other fish 🐠 so I wonder how he’s still alive
I had one and it lasted about 3 weeks and never saw it again. I think it didn’t ship well and got sick or my sand was too clean. It was less than a year old at the time. I’ve thought about getting another one but I also heard from other people similar stories to mine so I’m iffy about it. I hope your does well
I had one over 20+ years ago and swore I'd never get another. Mine constantly buried the sandbed corals. I'm wondering if you just got lucky or if I was unlucky. Watching the comments to see others experience.
Tagging along. I had a gold head sleeper goby that was great, but also covered anything on the sandbed. I thought these sand sifting gobies were all the same. Maybe the one in the video just has a slightly different personality? I also don't want to get one if they're not consistent like this one.
If you r sand bed is full for corals its a risk. Mine stays on the sand bed and doesnt go up and dump it over the rock s and other corals like previous gobys i have had,
@@ReefDudes typically they are even less likely to dump sand up high and stay close to the sand bed based on experience. You lucked out with your Diamond goby I think.

Wow - 22 years is amazing! Sorry for your loss. 🥰
Sucks to lose him! 22 years is pretty awesome to have him!
Rip 🪦 ❤️❤️🐶
Sorry for your loss it's never easy losing our pets! You should proud you were able to keep yours health and happy long past a normal life expectancy.
22!! Sorry to read

in addition to cleaning the sand, he's totally adorable!
Totally is!

I hope so,as I want a yellow watchmen ,but I'll buy a diamond for the benefits
Thanks
I got one Sunday! It’s now Tuesday and my sand is 1/2 cleaned. Well done buddy great job!
also the craziest jumpers ever in the tank.
Keep those tanks covered!
I just picked one up laat night. He has dug himself a little den a rock.
I love my diamond goby. My next tank I definately need to go a more coarse sand than the Fiji Pink though. Special grade is an option but maybe even slighty chunkier than that.
I have 2 in my 8 foot tank. Great fish to have and people love watching him sift sand when they come over. I love that iridescent blue on their faces.
Did you get yours as a pair? do they play nice?
@@ReefDudes yes, threw them in at the same time. Yes, they play nice together :)
Plan on doing a 97 gallon tank...ill for sure have multiple sand sifting gobi species...

my yellow watchman used to do the same thing! haha, this guy has been an all star with staying on the sandbed.

ThYs pretty cool. I haven’t had a pair of them before. Sifting on the ground and not on the water column was huge selling feature for me
whats you website
@@digitalharmony5162 we are Gallery Aquatica, we have two retail stores in Australia
I have one in my tank, it’s always cleaning sand and making caves like no other ! Very fun fish to watch
Super cool little guys

Awesome video!!!! I have a blue dot gobby and does a great job!
awesome! :D
I'm not sure if you mentioned it but they are big jumpers. A cover is a must or its just a matter of time...

sorry to hear that! always sucks to lose a pet
I have a pink spot Goby. Very similar. Awesome fish and definitely will always have one to keep the same clean!
Love to hear it!

Definitely need one in every tank
I have a diamond goby and sometimes he does make a mess but I believe it’s because I made the mistake and got Fiji pink instead of special grade sand
That’s interesting. I have the same sand and mine makes a mess too. Not sure if its worth it. Sand bed looks like a battle ground. Little guys just digging for gold and striking out each time😂

Love it!
Great video, might actually get one of these myself once the tanks a little more mature 👌
Just got one few days ago. I like them better than the watchman goby
This is an awesome video. I’m going to pick one up tomorrow. Just wondering if you have to bury the pellets in the sand for him to eat it or hand it to him
Mine will grab chunks of mysis out of the water column when I feed
He was the only thing that saved my tank
Hi Deven. Great vid, as always! Love your substrate. The particle size is just what I've been looking for. Would you mind saying what it's called and, if possible, where it can be purchased?
Carribsea special grade reef sand. its the largest particles i have found that are still sand like.
@@ReefDudes Thanks!

Nice one Deven 👍
Used to have 1.was a get fish to watch always working the sand bed. It got into the overflow somehow and got stuck.
Only fish to ever get in.
Dang! To bad!
@@ReefDudes will have to look for a new 1 I just find because they eat stuff in the sand they don't do well in qt tanks

Do you think that Hawaiian black gravel from caribsea would be too big for this fish?
I have not used it so not sure how big it is
Got one, and he is awesome 👍
awesome!
Always wanted one to sift sand, I do have some conch. Will it get along with lawnmower and midas blenny?
Acclimating mine to the new tank now...60 gallon corner with a 10g sump and refugium
Nice!
what grain size is that sand? trying to find something not too small for mine, and that seems ideal
THIS FISH WORKS VERY HARD
i had cyno bac and i tryied everything no chemi but when i intrdus diamo GOBY he or she is dope keeeeping sandbed clean as f...
Maybe have to get the diamond goby and take back the bluestreak goby who makes it snow all over the corals 😂
How old does your tank need to be?
I'm not sure of any hard rules but i would wait at least 6 months.. your sand bed needs to have enough 'food' built up into it for the sand sifters
What sand did you have
I have a yellow watchman gobie..

mine choked on a snail shell -_-
My sand bed is beautiful he does however make a mess for time to time but it is not a big deal
Worth it for someone to maintain your sand for you :)
Probably a dumb question, but what sand is this?
carrib sea special grade reef sand
@@ReefDudes Thought so, thanks. I am starting a new tank and that is the substrate I have ordered. I dig the goby.
I have some kind a fish like this
But doesn'it it bury your corals?
My wrasses killed several corals that way
