Great video! This is the technique I used for my walking dead and also zombicide minis. I usually finish off with a Matt varnish to give some protection.
Looks great. I prefer sometimes to hit with an appropriately coloured wash (ie blue wash on a blue jacket) and do a single brown wash on top as this gives you a more colourful contrast to the clothing. Similarly, I mix up skin tones by using a light mix of grey, green, purple and blue washes over a "flesh" base. Gives a nice bit of variation to your horde.
Thanks mate. Theres definitely more you can do to improve them further but I wanted to keep the first video straight forward and try and minimise how much you needed to use. The video on the survivors will be a little more tricks. :)
Great video! How you do your rough and ready walkers is how I do my best work lol. I love the tutorials that actively help and encourage new painters. These look great, I'll be copying the basing on mine.
Hey DMThirteen - I still paint most of my minis like this too. With a few more tricks I'll show in the next video it just makes them look even better. Thanks for watching :)
Excellent video thank you. I've just ordered the starter game and the same vehicle pack you used in your 8th Jan video of Walking Dead solo gameplay. I've never painted a figure so it's all new to me and I can't wait.
Hey Darren, welcome to the Walking Dead - you're going to love it! Don't worry about painting miniatures. It seems really daunting and you won't want to mess things up but all miniatures look better with paint on so anything you do will only make them look better. Don't judge your efforts against the stuff you see on line. Most of these painters have been painting for years, in some instances decades. You wouldn't judge yourself as a guitar player against Jimi Hendrix after one lesson would you? :)
Thanks for the msg mate. Your right, they do look quite bland coming straight out the box, so should look a bit better with some paint. Can't wait to get stuck in.
Yes absolutely, best to take my time and enjoy doing so, rather than rushing and not been happy with it, then not wanting to paint the rest due to lack of confidence.
Thanks buddy! There’s loads of tutorials for painters looking to improve but very little for new painters just starting out so that’s where I pitched it. Glad you enjoyed it 👍🏼
That’s really kind of you to say. I do enjoy watching longer tutorials when I’m trying to improve a method but for beginners it may be a little daunting. I’ll be checking out your channel so thanks!

Thanks makabushi! Yeah I really love TWD:AOW but I seem to have been neglecting it lately. I bought some stuff a while back for another board build so will get that done sometime soon. :D
Wonderful tutorial. Many thanks for this upload. Just got to wait for a day off work now so I can make a start on my Walking Dead: All Out War walkers. Ross
Thanks Ross. Really glad you found it useful. If you're on Facebook why not join my group and show off those walkers once you're finished 👍🏼 thanks for watching and commenting.
You btw needed two layers of wash cuz your layers been very glossy and thats leads to a very smooth surface and that helps paint flow very good. If you would have spreyed them with a matt coat before the washing the paint would have it harder to flow and covers a little better. :)
Great tutorial. I was looking at using Army Painter Zombicide sets for mine but they are expensive. Might look to just get some citadels and do them my way instead.
Thanks Mark. I think Army Painter are expensive to start with but in the long run probably work out cheaper cost per model. It just depends how many you're planning to do I guess.
Thats exactly why I started these. On my Facebook group we have an October Painting Challenge and the theme is "Paint something you've neglected" and so heres my entry starting :)
Great vid. I can highly reccomend Blood for the Bloodgod and paint it on straight from the pot without a red basecoat first. It gives a very nice result and realistic too.
The amount of the Tamiya Clear Red I have I don't think I'll ever get through it so I've never needed the Blood for the Blood God. Glad you like it and recommend it though :)
BlackJack Legacy It's a must have whenever you wish to do bloodstains 😊 GW's technical range is great, I use Typhus Corrosion quite a lot on my WWII German tanks and went trough about a whole pot of Nihilak Oxyde when I painted my Nighthaunts.
Thanks Matteo Primed with Valljo Ghost Grey Skin was P3 Thrall Flesh Suit was Citadel Kantor Blue Wash was Citadel Agrax Earthshade Eyes were Skull White Blood was Citadel Khorne Red then covered with Tamiya Clear Red. Hope that helps.
Hi - as helpful as this was (I have Walking Dead base set and solo Woodbury set - all unpainted), I am totally confoundeded by the number and variety of brushes available, and the various types of ink and wash, etc. available: enamel, silk, matt, acrylic paints - what's the difference? How do I get started with the basics: two or three basic brushes and some core colours would be helpful? Sorry I'm so ignorant, but painting miniatures seems like a daunting, nightmare of a maze to navigate for someone new to it all - some idiot-proof basics would be really helpful!
Hey R A Bardy - I'll put together a video for you. It doesn't need to be a minefield but unfortunately so many different companies call things different things so it makes it hard for beginners. I'll get a video up next week for you 👍🏼
BlackJack Legacy That would be awesome -- I don't even know what the different brush shapes and sizes are for, but kinda guessed the smaller the better! There are so many inks: base coats, undercoats, overcoats, bright washes, dark washes, and I recall reading somewhere you have to wash miniatures with washing up liquid before painting.... Aarrggh! :-)
Thanks! I've learned through trial and error and then later through watching tutorials when I knew a little more. Just wanted to d something that wouldn't scare off new painters to board gaming and miniature gaming. Appreciate the view and the comment buddy.
Nice tutorial! Is that version of the governor an exclusive or can you get him normally? Also there were a few bent weapons. Is the plastic tough enough to reshape it?
Hey Bearsan - These minis are from the Wave 4 release which isn't available at retail yet but came as part of the Kicksterter so you should be able to buy him soon. The worst one is the M4 rifle - it looks as though the arm has been attached a little high which has bent the shape of the gun and can't be straightened unless I take the arm off (I'm not that fussed about it). The rest will straighten with hot water or a hair dryer. I've done this with other Walking Dead minis and it works fine.
Great video! I like the intro, maybe consider a music change for your outro too as loads of creators use it on YT but get that you dont want a copyright strike. Anyway the tutorial is fantastic, I use a very similar technique for my walking dead as I highlight them but pretty much use this technique for my zombicide hordes.
Thanks Pete. Yeah I've noticed a few use that same tune. Its free to use on UA-cam so I guess thats why. I've paid for the music in the intro so will get around to using it in the outdo too. When I do the survivor video it will be a similar method but with highlighting and more care taken with the washes.
They Loook Amazing! REally Lovely!
Thanks!
Man that blood looks amazing
Cheers matey.
Great video! This is the technique I used for my walking dead and also zombicide minis. I usually finish off with a Matt varnish to give some protection.
Thanks John - I've never varnished my models but it definitely gives them an extra layer of protection.

Really good tutorial, I used army painter dark dip on mine, a bit slower but acts as a gloss varnish, then coat of Matt on top...same result. ..
Thanks Mic. I've never used the Army Painter dips but have heard that they work well too.
This video answered all my questions and problems, thank you!

Excellent job! You capture in a few minutes a complete method to create very good table top quality miniatures.
Thanks buddy! There’s loads of tutorials for painters looking to improve but very little for new painters just starting out so that’s where I pitched it. Glad you enjoyed it 👍🏼
You are correct. Mine is 1h30mn and feels more like you sit with me to paint. Yours is precise and to the point, which is an awesome quality :)
That’s really kind of you to say. I do enjoy watching longer tutorials when I’m trying to improve a method but for beginners it may be a little daunting. I’ll be checking out your channel so thanks!
Very effective method, nicely demonstrated. - perfect for beginners or fast results
Thanks Peter. Theres so many tutorials for amazing painting jobs that I think that beginners often get overlooked. Thanks for watching and commenting.

BlackJack Legacy I think it 65 zombies in the box plus the 6 survivors.
May be worth it then - that might use quite a bit of dip :)
NECRONS....cool zombies..this game looks interesting.
Its a great game Ron. The core set is amazing value too.
NECRONS!!
Nice tutorial! I'm eventually going to have to start painting the minis from the Kickstarter. :)
Thats exactly why I started these. On my Facebook group we have an October Painting Challenge and the theme is "Paint something you've neglected" and so heres my entry starting :)

Just buy the blood for the bloodgod paint its epic!
Great vid mate GL with this awesome channel!
When I bought my Tamiya Clear Red , blood for the Blood God wasn't a thing - might pick some up. Thanks :)
Great job. Did you airbrush the shadowing/darker parts in the clothing?
Thanks. No there was no airbrushing other than to prime the minis. Everything was just basecoats and washes as described in the video 👍🏼.
@@BlackJackLegacy You're talented dude I really like how the zombies came out! I'm gonna look into getting these.
Very kind of you buddy.
Looking good mate :D NECRONS!!
Cheers man - Necrons will get some love soon too :D
You always beat me to it lol Great video!
You are very good!
Can I know the color list you used?
thank you!!!
Thanks Matteo
Primed with Valljo Ghost Grey
Skin was P3 Thrall Flesh
Suit was Citadel Kantor Blue
Wash was Citadel Agrax Earthshade
Eyes were Skull White
Blood was Citadel Khorne Red then covered with Tamiya Clear Red.
Hope that helps.
+BlackJack Legacy What is te equivalent in Citadel for P3 Trall flesh? Thanks!
Hey there, Nurgling Green is probably the closest match but once you wash with agrax it should look pretty good.

It's all true however when starting 3 brushes will do you. The rest I'll go through in the video :)
good vid. I did another video for starters in tabletop games, but this one takes a different approach to about the same result :) Cool
Thanks! I've learned through trial and error and then later through watching tutorials when I knew a little more. Just wanted to d something that wouldn't scare off new painters to board gaming and miniature gaming. Appreciate the view and the comment buddy.
