Trim the end shoots about 4 inches. I usually do this on my squash vine plants after they are growing between 8 to 9 feet to encourage side shoots. After three to four days you’ll see side shoots bearing female flowers. Don’t throw the trimmings. Use it in stir fry or soup.

I also would like to know if I should do that for EARLY MALE flowers on my Squash & Zuccini plants? Also, you specifically mentioned 'Bone Meal' for the Cucumber problem, again THANK YOU!
I recommend Not doing it on the squash and zucchini on early season, only after the plant is mature and keep given mostly male flowers, by the way, flowers are edibles! 😉
Thank you for the great information! I am growing cucumber and cantaloupe for the first time and am only getting male flowers. It's early on in the bloom so I will fertilize more and be patient. I live in the Tampa Florida area and am finding it a lot harder to grow here than where I grew up in Kentucky, although the growing season is so much longer in Florida but I miss the great soil in Kentucky.
I suggest that you use more water in Florida,,the sandy loam soil there will dry out much faster than in Kentucky ,,,I live in west NC and friends who live in east NC have to water a lot more than I do because of their sandy loam soil.
Keep trying, plant some flowers that attract bees like sunflowers, but for next time you need a Parthenocarpic cucumber variety seeds which don’t required pollination to produce fruit, the only detail is that you will get seedless cucumbers.

Thank you for the information! I missed the pollination of one of my pumpkin flowers because i didn't check them 1 day? 😭 Thankfully another female flower open 2 days later.
Cucumbers will fail to Bloom when they lack energy. The leaves need to be dark green for photosynthesis and the soil rich in nutrients. Add blood meal and fish fertilizer to boosts Nitrogen and phosphorus. Make sure they stay hydrated with water and at least 6 hours of Sun. Good Luck! If it does not work plant new seeds of a different variety, they grow really fast! Good luck!
Male flowers are produced first also if the weather is overly hot and humid the plants delay the production of females flowers. Be patient they will come 😉
Squash plants have a reputation for poor pollination. The causes are: 1- Too few bees or pollinators to move the pollen from the male to the female flowers. 2- A stretch of very cold or very hot weather when the flowers are in bloom. 3- Wet weather, if you must water, avoid early in the morning when the bloom fist open. As well, irrigate only the soil, not the plant.
Don’t force them open! Obviously the plant is having some kind of issued! Add fertilizer (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium) since cucumber plants are heavy feeders also extreme climate conditions can cause this like too cold or too hot. The plant can sense the lack of pollinators and the flowers won’t open! Usually the 2nd set of female flowers are the ones to open! Give it some time but don’t force it because that won’t work! 😉
@@AnabelsFinquita I regularly fertilize with fish emulsion worm tea and morbloom… but they are in containers so maybe I need to increase the frequency I may be losing nutrients through watering. Thanks for your response.

Shiieeet son all I get are males and my plant is green and huge and happy buttt I’ll get a female and then she died b4 she can grow and I can’t self pollinate so frustrating
@@amberamber2821 usually male flowers come out first. If you have too many male flowers get rid of some and that will stimulate the plant to give more flowers. Bottle gourd plants produce both male and female flowers. The plant will produce more male flowers if the temperature is too low. Move them to a shady area if they are in pots or use a cloth garden fabric to cover them when it’s too sunny to see if your plants will grow male flowers.

Not really! Choose a large pot at least 10 gallons in size but the bigger the pot the better. Usually 20-24 inches deep and wide is required for a single plant.
