    Thank God for the internet. And for UA-cam. I'm 67 years doing crossfit for 10 weeks now and getting fit. I did handstands as a HS pole vaulter and could do one up until age 45 or so but not for over 20 years now. I've been wanting to do handstands again. I found this video today and this brilliant instruction and I know I will be doing them again soon. 50 years ago when I was in HS there was no instruction available like this and not much more in college. So lucky to find this genius instructor and able to save and review it over and over. Can't wait to get started tomorrow.

      Tamara Bevan Yeah I was about to say she actually for sure has her press and the only thing she would have needed was someone to spot her hips for a few reps to fully understand the movement. But really I am sure if she didn’t press already it would have taken er like 5 attempts to get it after having someone spotting her

    It's amazing how many muscles YOU DON'T EXERCISE with weight-lifting. It's only through gymnastics and calisthenics that you gain FULL CONTROL over your body and gain FUNCTIONAL MUSCLES. Reminds me of how ballerinas can slowly lift their foot over their head. How many power-lifters or bodybuilders can do that?

    • @shayden598
      @shayden598 5 років тому +4

      Lifting your foot above your head has nothing to do with strength, its flexibility. Which is not what bodybuilders and powerlifters train for, cause they dont need it.

    • @shayden598
      @shayden598 5 років тому +2

      Same goes for this movement, a handstand press is more about beeing flexible enough, not that much about strength

    • @RR42636
      @RR42636 5 років тому +8

      How many ballerinas have the same level of muscularity as a bodybuilder? How many have the same level of strength of a powerlifter? Each set of people train to achieve goals specific to their own field. Your last statement is just silly.

    • @Rachdoane
      @Rachdoane 4 роки тому +8

      No, lifting your foot above your head slowly ABSOLUTELY requires strength AS DO these exercises. I am very fit and pretty flexible but power yoga requires strength in muscles you do not use to lift...the flexibility aspect is only part of it.

    • @KateDreyer
      @KateDreyer 4 роки тому +1

      @@shayden598 It has everything to do with strength! of course, you need to have a range to be able to open it up, but if you have a passive range, but no strength (active range), then you won't be able to lift your foot over your head. I am some what flexible, can do all 3 splits and in some cases even oversplits, but i can't lift my leg up to my head and hold it there with just my muscles

      If you have been training the press for two years and you are nowhere near then you ve been doing it wrong. Just read more literature on how your muscles work, which exersice should be the first, how many reps and how much tume spent on the targeted muscle. If you do it the right way and your knowledge is advanced and you are a mid-age man a year is more than enough to do whatever with your body. Muscle ups, handstand push ups, one arm chin ups etc. Just keep digging the information and change smth in your routine
