  • On this episode I start on getting the cab ready for media blasting and epoxy. I start filling holes and keep finding more and more and more! Ended up taking quite a while to complete so I decided to cut the cab prep to 2 videos. I hope you enjoy!

I think the all gray would be good looking. With the polished grill.
It will be nice no matter how you decide to do it!
Keep up the good work 👌🏼

Great work Matt. Thanks for sharing your builds, I enjoy them! A Forest service crew cab would be cool to see but either way you have pretty good taste. Keep it up

Hey Matt, I appreciate the body patching tips. I don't think a tribute truck will add value to the build. I would just go the original gray. Maybe someday you could do a 300ci straight 6.

I think a “battleship grey” would be cool, since it was originally grey and that color has became pretty popular in last couple years.

I think you confuse "battleship grey" with primer. And "grey" is not a "color".

@@deeremeyer1749 Grey (more common in Commonwealth English) or gray (more common in American English) is an intermediate color between black and white.

I’m thinking of doing my 76 High Boy in the green like they had on the Minnesota DNR trucks so I’m intrigued about your possible Forest Service paint scheme.
What gage metal do you use for your patches and what type welder do you use?
    Thanks for another informative video.

    • @MattKubik1791
      @MattKubik1791  5 місяців тому

The plugs are 18 gauge and the welder is a Lincoln 350MP but that’s way overkill for this kind of work. It’s just what we have in the shop.

Another great video Matt. Always enjoy your updates. Do you have a video talking about the differences between a bumpside Highboy and a bumpside four wheel drive F150 or F100? Just curious what the most common differences are. I recently bought a 68 Highboy but I’m suspicious of a few things on it that makes me think at least there may have been a body swap done. Also the radiator mount isn’t like what you’ve shown. It’s the flat mount. The door tags were reissued in Colorado too. So I’ve gotta check the vin on the frame. Anyway if you can offer any advice it would be greatly appreciated.

I don’t have a video going over an f-100 4wd but the short of it is it’s a married dana 20 transfer case with coil springs up front with a open knuckle 44 front axle. If it has a reissued vin it’s likely a body swap but that’s ok. Since it has a reissued vin it’s all legal. If you wanted to you could find the vin on the frame that would tell you more info. You can decode the vin on www.fordification.com hope this helps!

@@MattKubik1791 Thanks for all your videos. I own a 1969 F-350 Crewcab. Second owners. My dad bought it in 1972 when I was 14. I’m doing a semi restoration so I appreciate you opening stuff up I couldn’t see anywhere else. My biggest lack of resource knowledge is anything related to the rear doors or interior.

Where do you get the small sheet metal discs you use for patching the larger round holes? I’ve got about 30 of them to patch on my rig following the removal of the factory fender flares that left holes from the clips.

Color: Not USAF, as they used Strata Blue exclusively on civilian purchase "soft skin" vehicles. More tempted to think Navy gray. Otherwise, probably a general GSA order for a misc. agency.

Uh..."fabbing" anything the cab ultimately connects to without the cab installed is asking for more trouble than doing so with no engine. There's a lot more to "fabbing" a steering gear install than just making sure the engine doesn't hit it. In fact if the engine is anywhere "near" it you're going to have problems.
And you may know this already but divorced t-cases in Fords were always "flex mounted" and not rigidly bolted to anything. I don't think Ford ever installed them behind automatics either. And maybe not fixed yoke manuals. Do not plan on "threading" the front driveshaft through any tight spaces and do not "perfectly" align the T-case input and trans output. U-joints MUST have some angularity at least intermittently to prevent needle brinneling of the crosses and premature failure. That requires the cups to "turn" on the crosses and that only happens with angularity.
