@@Hauntz_er Jose Molina was a much better framer than Jeff Mathis, at least according to Fangraphs. Jose Molina's 143.5 to 64.1 for Mathis. The framing numbers don't include the beginning of Jose Molina's career so it is possible that between 1999 & 2007 he was a horrible framer. It's also possible that Mathis was an amazing framer between 2005 & 2007 when there is no framing data. But the data Fangraphs has (2008 & onwards) says Jose Molina is a better framer & it isn't even close.
Im only 10 minutes in, but this is already the ultimate "remember some guys" Jason Kubel, Tony Womack, and Ty Wigginton in the first three picks? *Chef's kiss*
I've made a roster exclusively composed of players who were either born in Louisiana or played here in college or the minors. I started with an honorable mention of Warren Morris, rWAR of 2.9, solely for the most iconic hit in college baseball history. He was third in Rookie of the Year voting in 1999, but injuries prevented him from progressing at all in the pros. My lineup is: Brad Hawpe at RF (rWAR of 4.5 and 1-time All Star, received MVP votes in two seasons); Endy Chavez at CF (squeaking in with an rWAR of exactly 5.0 but with no individual accolades other than 2002 September NL Rookie of the Month and 5 double plays turned in 2004, the most of any outfielder that year); Mike Morse at LF (rWAR of 4.0, 19th in MVP voting in 2011 and 2014 World Series winner); Pat Listach at SS (rWAR of 4.4, 1992 ROY and 18th in MVP voting that year, was absolute hot garbage at the plate after that season); Sean Berry at 3B (rWAR of 4.8, had 6.2 WAR spread across the 1995-1998 seasons but he immediately threw in a -2.1 WAR season in 1999 which got him back to the list of eligible players here); Mike Fontenot at 2B (rWAR of 4.2, 2010 World Series winner despite not making a plate appearance in that series, solid player who most notably logged a .909 OPS despite only hitting 9 homers in 2008); Logan Morrison at 1B (rWAR of 3.9, had OPS+ of 123 in his rookie season and 133 much later in his career, overall just a solid offensive player); and finally Lenny Webster at C (rWAR of 3.3, his career really took a nosedive after 1995 offensively, but he hung around the bigs in a bit-part catching role for over a decade. Only logged 100 games or more once in his career).
Steve Balboni is an easy sleeper. Sexual presence is off the charts. 181 homers, 101 OPS+. 7 straight seasons of 17+ homers, 5 of 23+. 2 straight seasons with MVP votes. An impressive -7.6 dWAR at first base. Another fun fact, he had a 3 hit game in his last career game and his nickname was Bye Bye. Another another fun fact, the 2 guys he hit the most homers off of were Frank Tanana and Dave Stieb. Also his 3 career walk-off home runs came off of all-star closers including Rollie Fingers and Dennis Eckersley. I think I love Steve Balboni

Jason Kubel is my favorite player of all time. Dude would have been extremely good if not for the knee injuries. His cycle game was beautiful to watch live
I'm gonna let you finish but Raul Ibanez had the best walkup music of all time ("Werewolves of London" because of that part where it sounds like they go "Rauuuuul").

I feel like the clear next step with stats and numbers is get the OPS+ average at every Position and that way u can better judge a certain guy at a certain position. Like a catcher with a long career with an OPS+ of like 95, you take that from a catcher. So adjust for position
me and my brother used to do something like this where we would just try to dig up as many obscure athletes as we could off the top of our heads. he surrendered for good when i conjured up from the deepest reserves of my recall, Robert Fick.
Thanks for the middle names tip Bailey. I just found out Carter Kieboom’s middle name is Alswinn, I’m definitely gonna have to start up a chant next time he’s in Queens (especially if he makes the Nats opening day roster). That’s just too good an opportunity to pass up

Oh man, I talked to Xavier Nady during a AAA game when he had just gotten assigned to the Colorado Sky Sox, really nice guy. He was still trying to figure out what a Sky Sock was at the time, I definitely sympathized with that.

When Bailey said I'm going to draft a catcher and did not immediately follow up with Jeff Mathis I was dissapointed.
Jose Molina is a slightly better hitter & equal to better defense than Mathis. I believe he is even mentioned in his Mathis video

These guys together is something special
Finally, a baseball show in which my man Hee-Seop Choi can get some mother-flippin respect.
Tony Womack had a really good year for us in STL.

I take Craig Monroe. 3.6 WAR and he was very reliable on those Tigers teams.
Jason Kubel is my favorite player of all time. Dude would have been extremely good if not for the knee injuries. His cycle game was beautiful to watch live

Not that deep
Bailey deserves all the best. A great dude & a true fan.
Wake n Jake, feat. Foolish Bailey. S Tier 💯 I'm here for it 💪
This was fun. Thanks for these and for the crossovers.
I'm trying to imagine Mike Morse playing short stop.... That would have been a sight
I am so pumped that Willie got picked! My childhood was built on those disgustingly average Mariners teams
dante bichette is a great pick if you allow guys on the 5.x range, rey ordonez, ike davis are some other picks i like
in the same vein, fernando tatis was a very solid does-it-all util guy in his later years
oh they brought him up at 39:00 and determined he was too good lol
Alright, my Brewers only "Best OK Players" (in batting order)
2B - Joe Inglett
RF - Domingo Santana
LF - Eric Thames
1B - Chris Carter
3B - Casey McGehee
SS - Hernan Perez
CF - Keon Broxton
C - Erik Kratz
P - Manny Parra
Santana, Thames, Perez, Carter, Broxton, and Parra could all (in theory) come back though, they all played games last year
Eric Thames, nice!
No Skip Schumaker!? Center field/OF and 2B flex.
bailey and jake is a lethal duo
I have to mention I was looking up Kubel and Wiggington before you guys even said them on this video lol.

Doug Mirabelli is a no brainer behind the dish
Most memorable thing about Mirabelli was the borderline cartoon mitt he used to catch Wakefield.
I would take Mike Matheny
me and my brother used to do something like this where we would just try to dig up as many obscure athletes as we could off the top of our heads. he surrendered for good when i conjured up from the deepest reserves of my recall, Robert Fick.
No way on that homestar runner fact that’s amazing
Ryan Ludwick is the first name that came to my head. Had one stellar year but outside of that was the definition of "ok".
Bailey Freeman and Arn Anderson, Rome Georgia's favorite sons.
I was told Bailey is a Braves fan so of course I love him and will sacrifice my life before his self.
Thanks for the middle names tip Bailey. I just found out Carter Kieboom’s middle name is Alswinn, I’m definitely gonna have to start up a chant next time he’s in Queens (especially if he makes the Nats opening day roster). That’s just too good an opportunity to pass up
As a Royals fan, this is the closest thing I'll get to love for my team.
Thames mashed in Japan last year in 10 games... he could still come back!
He is 😎
Watching this video a few days after Miles Straw climbed the Yankee Stadium fence and hearing Jake say "Miles Straw, more like Mild Flaw"
He may have been considered better than ok but Placido Polanco was one of the most underrated players of my childhood!
Dude has 42 WAR. He's hall of very good.
How about Carlos Guillen?
Bailey and BBD:
Jake: "Damn imma spicy meatball"
This is a great draft idea I’d have Wigginton or Chavez myself. Cantu having negative war is crazy didn’t expect that
"Know how some baseball players, just cause of the helmet and the hat and the jersey, sometimes more neck stands out? Luis Matos had that, and that's why I'm taking him" -Jake Storiale.
John Jaha would have been amazing had he stayed healthy, but injuries put him in the "OK" range with a couple of 30+ HR seasons.
Here is my draft team:
LF: Ryan Raburn
RF: Ryan Spillborghs
CF: Skip Shumaker
3B: Garrett Atkins
SS: Cesar Izturis (exception needed)
2B: Akinori Iwamura
1B: Brandon Moss
C: Jarrod Saltalamacchia (exception also needed as he just barely crosses over the 5 war mark)
I think the other brad hawpe you guys are thinking about was seth smith.
My best friend’s cousin is Aaron Rowand. Has a nice house. Pretty good player at the time.
Pokey Reese and Doug Mirabelli. No bias of course
Love both of your guys' content!
I think Morse is the guy who had to do a fake redo hr swing cuz the ball went out but nobody was sure, the call is legendary
Maybe the most sauceless theme song in podcasting.
I was hoping for Kevin Kouzmanoff to get a mention. First pitch to ever see in the MLB was a grand slam 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
He had almost an 8 war
Bailey is awesome
xavier nady's early career path was wild. still never played a single game at AA ball lol
Oh man, I talked to Xavier Nady during a AAA game when he had just gotten assigned to the Colorado Sky Sox, really nice guy. He was still trying to figure out what a Sky Sock was at the time, I definitely sympathized with that.
BBD with the mid-2000s Royals love.
37:25 the quote came from Mauer
This is easy for me, the GOAT Chad Tracy is easily the best pick for 3rd base!
David Delucci was the first name I thought of, glad to see he got picked.
BAILEY NEEDS A PERMAMENT SPOT. MAKE IT HAPPEN

Cantú had over 3,000 ABs and a career -0.1 bWAR. The definition of a replacement level career.
2.7 career fWAR though, almost entirely carried by his 2008 season where he had 29 homers and an OPS of .808
