    Jessica, I appreciate your openness and honesty about real life. You are easy to relate to. You have such a warm heart and fun nature. Your family is so very blessed to have you looking out for them. Your whole family is supportive of each other. Even though all of you work hard you live a beautiful life. God bless your family. Thank you for allowing us to be a small part of your life and the beautiful Alaska.

    Years ago, I served my grandmother a bowl of soup and she said it was waaay too much. She said she only wanted a cup. I went back to the kitchen, poured the entire contents of the bowl into a large cup, and she was completely satisfied.

    Thank you so much for another great video. Jessica, I really admire your transparency and you're honest to your viewers about your real life situation and being on an actual realistic budget. So many content creators seem to have these endless budgets and buy all of the shiny new things in the biggest box full of stuff you've ever seen et cetera. I appreciate the fact that you're candid about life situations that have happened and how you're dealing with them I applaud you. Keep on keeping on Sister Sledge and God bless❤

      I created it all on a large budget but we had it then. Simply not the case right now and I’m so good with it. I like when I have thousands to spend but I’m in such a happy place right now I was so thankful to have just $400 for the whole month too.

    Hi Jessica. Last week my stores had a bunch of things on sale and I stocked up my pantry on those things and next week my focus is on winter medication for when my husband and I get a cold plus soups and things for when we do get sick. We live in a 5th wheel in the north east of Nevada. Having a garden here is sometimes hopeless because the dirt is horrible and the heat. I have tried several times and before I can get enough of something it bolts. I love your videos. Much love to you and your family

    You can freeze dry Basil then blitz in a food processor with salt to make Basil Salt.
    Take an ice cube tray and grate or use food processor to make ginger in usable size. Mix the ginger with a little neutral oil and the freeze. Pop out of the ice trays and store in a resealable bag in the freezer.

    Hi Jessica, I can relate to seniors thinking about the amount of food. I worked at a senior center cooking. We only served federal guideline portions. They would all say it’s too much food. They would always want to take the rest home. They would count a few bites of everything as another meal. It’s a senior citizen thing I guess.

    You might want to consider a "cold Room" instead of refrigerators. We are installing one on our ranch . They take an air conditioner and a special added device that keeps the AC machine lowering the temp. A lot of homesteaders consider this option because you can hanga deer or whatever because it is a whole room. Our room will be 8 x 16

    You can grow ginger in flower pots with sunny windows indoors. When it gets warm next summer, take them outside and harvest in the fall or repot and wait another year for more or bigger root stock. That bread rack would make a great drying rack. You can also replace the solid trays with screens for air circulation. It would be a great compact size for inside drying and not be covering everything.

    I have processed 120 pounds of tomatoes in a year (3x40 pound cases) a few times. Over 60 pounds went into 21 quarts of basic crushed tomatoes (~3lbs/quart), 750ml jars of tomato sauce (not sure if it was 14 or 21 of those), 35 or more pints of salsa, 14 half pints of antipasto relish, and several pints of tomato juice. The tomatoes available at the markets here come from BC and this year were not great (or maybe they were early and I missed them). I've still got lots of salsa left but I'm buying canned tomatoes to restock the pantry for the first time in many years. Depending on how long we avoid frost, I may have a bumper crop of cherry and grape tomatoes, but it's always touch and go being close to the mountains (in Alberta). Good sale prices on on root vegetables and squash are starting so the dehydrator will be going full time for the next month or so.

  • @ajorgensen2334
    @ajorgensen2334 5 місяців тому

    Hi Jessica. For your ginger, you can just put it into the freezer as is. When you need it for a recipe you just grate it frozen - it tastes like fresh. It’s so much easier to grate that way too since the fibre is more brittle it’s rarely an issue. This works with fresh turmeric root too. Happy preserving!

    I read this after I bought Quail eggs at Business Costco.
    Fill a large bowl with room temperature water and gently place the eggs in the bowl. The good eggs will sink to the bottom, while any eggs past their prime will float with the pointed end down. Discard the floating eggs, as they're not safe to eat.
    Definitely check eggs. Several floated in our batch.

    • @samstevens7888
      @samstevens7888 5 місяців тому +1

      @@TamooMeadows-hf7px Lots of people believe in old wives tales. Some are true. But the majority have been proven false. The problem is once you think you know something because it's told over and over, you don't know anything different until someone like me comes along.

    Let us know when you eat a hard-boiled quail egg with cucumber and cracker. Trying new things is always fun. Nice video.

    I don’t know if you have tried freezing avocados. I mash it all up scoop in freezer containers. Sometimes I make it all guacamole and freeze into containers.

    That a girl!! Let us know how the quail eggs taste. I’m curious, did you at some point make meals plans that inspired what to stock up in our food storage. I really have been wanting to get this going. Because who knows what this world will bring us in the next years, let alone I don’t want to be caught off guard in the event of job loss again. Bless you Jessica for all that you do for your family!! God sees you and He is well pleased I’m sure of it. Keep it up!!

    Cambro containers- definately consider the square/rectangle ones over the round. You can fit more in a fridge with them. The round ones take up unused space. Maybe for a restaurant with huge fridges it doesn't matter much, but for home it makes a huge difference ❤

    I got a large bag of ginger and freeze dried about a third and then pickled some . The freeze dried is awesome just like fresh for cooking. 😊 any ideas for ginger? Teas, cough syrup, cookies wouldn’t mind trying new things with ginger.

      That’s so good to know did you peel it?

      Yes I used a teaspoon and removed most of the skin then shredded and then cut into tiny pieces as well for different dishes. Worked great for my needs. I hear you don’t have to remove the skins it doesn’t effect the taste. I grew it once was nice long grass looking but the root didn’t grow for me. You can purée the ginger and pressure can it too not tried it yet. So much to explore with ginger. @@modernhomesteadalaska

    My brother bought a commercial fridge and freezer when he built his house. He regrets it now. We live close to a large city and even so the wait time for repairs can be shocking. It’s usually between 3-6 months. There just aren’t many people who are qualified to repair commercial equipment. So please keep this in mind. Commercial isn’t always the best choice. ❤️❤️
