  • The Evidence For One True Christianity Is Worse Than You Think! The Orthodox Church likes to act like Christianity was one true movement that was corrupted by men and that you will only find the truth with their walls. The scholarship points towards a very diverse starting point for Christianity with many splinter sects out the gate. Dr's Dennis MacDonald and Richard Carrier take a deep dive into the subject in this video.

    I love to hear from these two gentlemen. What a treat to live in this era and to get educated on these subjects at this level by scholars for free on our laptops. Obviously it's not like getting a degree, but it's far more than the average person in most generations of humans could ever find out about the history of their culture's religions. Even some popes probably didn't know some of this stuff that we can now know just by turning on an interview in the background while cooking dinner.

      I agree with you and enjoy listening. However, we have to also keep in mind time is pushing us further from the original languages and cultures that created these works. It’s interesting listening to scholars speculate in 2021, but if somebody moves to a new culture today he/she quickly realizes much is missed by an outsider (much less adding 2000 yrs to the equation).

    This topic was my first step out. I set out to prove once and for all that what I believed could be traced back to the mouth of Jesus. It was my belief that there was an unbroken line that led right to my pulpit.
    It didn't take long before my nerves began to shatter on what I found. The multiple sects that I found held beliefs that my current church would consider heresy. Some of that diversity helped explain the contradictions I knew existed in the New Testament. But there was more. I looked into the "OT prophesies" of Jesus. I always questioned how they related to what I was taught and preached, but as long as those verses remained isolated they worked. I faced the facts that none of those verses talked about Jesus.
    I was losing sleep and breaking down as my core beliefs crumbled before me. I couldn't unsee what I found behind the curtain. And that just opened cracks in other aspects of my beliefs. I walked away for the sake of my health and sanity. I went from preaching to just visiting random churches hoping to get that old feeling back. I walked away for a few years before attempting to find a thread to believe.
    In the end I faced the truth. I no longer believed. I tried to give myself any reason but reason would prevail. Around 2010 I finally searched the A-word. I found Seth Andrews page and podcast. Not long after I comfortably referred to myself as an atheist.

      It has always fascinated me that no matter how hard you try you can't link one person directly back to Jesus. Papias at first seems tantalising but his sources peter out , Aristion & John the Presbyter, who are they? Who did they learn from? Paul even closer, writing ✍ in the 50's turns out he never met Jesus or says there was a Jesus to meet. Then there's Cephas, did he write 1 Peter, maybe but even if he did theres there's no eye witness information in it. There is an unbridgeable gap between us & Jesus best explained by myhicism.

      @@ghostriders_1 I agree. I can't for the life of me figure out why Jesus himself didn't write out exactly what he/his father wanted. Or at the very least had 12 literate disciples record a consistent set of documents. Instead we are offered 3 contradictory accounts that obviously copied 1 we know of and another that is speculation.

      @@ghostriders_1 Even as an atheist if someone told me that.Jesus did not exist, I would have shook my head. Now after hearing Carrier, Price, Humphreys I'm leaning hard in that direction. If you strip away all the supernatural scenes and the historical inaccuracies and historical improbabilities from Mark alone, what are you left with? I did that with Mark and I think I had about 45% of the book left. And what was left was not impressive enough to change a small town in the US let alone the western hemisphere.
      Had the left over Jesus of Mark actually existed, I seriously doubt anyone would have noticed. Especially due to the abundance of "Jesus Messiahs" in the region. Given that, Mark's Left over Jesus is never mentioned by contemporary sources. So, I'm leaning hard in the mythicist camp. So if left over Jesus left zero impact on history I have no reason to give weight to the claim he did.

    When Jesus first started his ministry he joined the "repent and be baptized" movement alongside John the Baptist. After John was executed, Jesus started his own "Kingdom of God" movement. To be forgiven for sins, Jesus no longer advocated that people be baptized but rather they forgive people who sin against them. If they don't forgive, then God would not forgive them for their sins .Jesus states this in his Sermon on the Mount. Jesus DOES NOT state in his Sermon on the Mount that he is going to be God's sacrificial lamb and that people must believe in him to obtain forgiveness of sin. If one examines every passage where Jesus speaks about the Kingdom of God, he does not state that he will be God's sacrificial lamb there either. Later, particularly after Jesus was crucified, Jesus then became God's sacrificial lamb, and forgiveness of sins could only be obtained by believing in Jesus. So even during Jesus' ministry concepts changed. And then Paul came along and caused more controversy by claiming he knew more about Jesus than did Jesus' disciples. Paul even wrote in one of his epistles that he had followers, Peter had followers, and Apollos had followers. If Christians read the Bible with both eyes open and thought for themselves instead of listening to other people, they might realize that different sects existed from the onset, and that there is no such thing as gospel truth.

      @@colonalklink14 I agree with you. However, after studying the gospels in detail for over 20 years, I had to conclude that there's a good possibility Jesus allowed himself to be crucified and was later revived by either Joseph of Arimathea and/or Essenes who were young men dressed in shiny robes. In some passages those young men are not called angels. Otherwise, it was planned. Understand that I used to be a fundamentalist Christian, but I changed my mind based on my studies. @@colonalklink14 I used to think like that, but I simply came across too many problems and mistakes. For instance, most Christians believe that Judas Iscariot went to hell for betraying Jesus. Jesus, however, promised his twelve disciples a throne when he said, "...when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel (Mt 19:28). So did Jesus give Judas a throne? Or did Jesus go back on his word? You may be able to come up with an answer to that question, but I can give you dozens of more examples. This is why we have Christian Apologetics, to attempt to defend beliefs. But even then one group of Christians will cite Bible verses to support a certain belief (it could be anything), and another group of Christians will cite other verses to prove the opposite. Hence, this is why we have tens of thousands of denominations. So one must ask why the inerrant Word of God is interpreted so many ways? I had to conclude that God did not write or inspire the Bible but rather men. On the other hand, I still believe in a Supreme Being, just not the capricious God of the Bible. You might consider watching some videos on the MythVision UA-cam channel where all kinds of problems are discussed regarding Christianity and religion. Some of the people who are interviewed used to be diehard Christians and even ministers, but they gave it up when they realized that much of it isn't true. Many of them have become diehard atheists, but I disagree with that as well. To me a Supreme Being did create the universe and life on earth, but it wasn't the God of the Bible. People like me are called deists who believe in "Nature's God."

Its all just "in the air" or a "homage" instead of recognizing it as the consolidation of beliefs under one God; a God that chose one people. Its an ingenious plan for world domination; It doesnt matter who those people end up being. When everyones finished arguing & the dust settles over who Gods real "chosen people" are, they will unite the world (exactly as "prophesied/planned) and its a win-win. The "consecrated land" debate is where the world will be ruled from and who will rule it. The abrahamic religions are antithetical for a reason.

Paul’s letter says that everyone is allowed to plant the way they want and build the church the way they want - as long as they remember that the foundation on which to plant and build is the teaching of Jesus. The schism between Paul and Jacob arose when Jewish Christians tried to force Gentile Christians into Jewish Christianity and to which Paul then replied that Gentile Christians have the right to be Gentiles without having to convert to Jews. Paul’s idea was not new because the concept of yir’ei HaShem/yir’ei Shamayim (God-fearer) was known in Judaism long time before Paul. Paul’s letters convey a picture of a kind of religious movement that is like the kind of the “come as you were” party where guests comes with the state they were in when they were invited. But in Paul’s day, there were Christians who thought that Paul’s teaching was heresy and they put Paul to justify and advocate himself.

And on headphones while walking it was utterly frustrating…. why the hell do you keep putting the volume so low….on many of your videos not just this one…. please make the volume at least twice as much…. Please…. People can always lower the volume if it is too high …. But if at full blast it is barely audible then the video becomes a total frustration

    Question. Why are the evangelical counting corpses using the bible as a springboard to perform somersaults to do the exact opposite of "love thier neighbors" and "treat others like they want to be treated"?
    Answer. This is sick. Because these simple concepts are too far out there to grasp for vampires (greed).

    The 'big bang' was not Jesus (Christ) but Nerones (Chrestos), therefor the only original christianity is the roman version ; all other heresies spliitted of from there like branches from a tree. Ceasarism is the root, using and seducing Judaism it still exists today in all its different forms. The semitic people of the east hated Rome and kept up trying to develop their own version of faith ultimately resulting in islam. The one true faith never existed at anytime or anywhere.

    As fascinating as all this is, why is there never any time given on this channel to the ethical weight of it all? The bible texts aren't primitive science or a history, they're a call to a way of living. It just makes it easy to dismiss if you subtract the demand to question how we see the world and evaluate our choices. Upside down theology.

    • @rainbowkrampus
      @rainbowkrampus 2 роки тому +3

      The bible is not a call to a way of living. It is a call to infinite ways of living. Early hebrew compilers thought it was best to live one way. Later hebrews altered, added to and redacted ideas creating even more perceived ways of living. As their groups spread out and diversified even more ways of living were called for in a process which continues to this day.
      Every believer is an island who has to interpret for themselves what way of living is being called for by their socio-historical context.
      The ethical weight then is that these ideas are poison. The bible is a set of pro-authoritarian, pro-exclusionary ideas, justified through falsehoods and inserted into a socio-political process in a way which erodes honest discourse.
      It's not discussed because it's not worth talking about. Bible bad. An honest reading of it will lead anyone to that conclusion. Fortunately, this channel does nothing but strive to give honest readings of it. That's really all anyone needs.

    Do you interview believers and test their faith and equally let them test you back? I'm looking for someone to challenge my belief in God and His kingdom. You have a lot of content, and I haven't seen them all but from what I have they're pretty weak arguments and easy to deal with. Tons of hypocritical arguments too. Like about faith, even though you practice it daily. Faith is a real thing it just depends on where you're putting it. I used to be like you and now I'm what you used to be. I used to use the same arguments; I did the same mispresenting of the bible because of my lack of understanding.
    It's absolutely astonishing how something like that can happen. For 20 years preaching the same thing you are and you preaching Jesus. THEN me seeing the truth and Preaching Jesus and you go down the opposite path denying Him. The bible says God opens our eyes and the Holy Spirit is what leads us to all truth. The bible also says it pleases God by foolishness of preaching to save man. He openly admits that the world would think its foolishness but at the same time He uses that to show how ignorant we truly are...We think we're smarter than God. We want to be gods and all you have to do is look at history and today to see how we're absolutely wicked people... All of us.
    1Jo 2:19
    They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.
    1Jo 2:20
    But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.
    1Jo 2:21
    I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth.
    Jesus is the truth and He taught us how we're wicked people inwardly and we needed to be born again of the SPIRIT. Until that happens, we won't ever know God and His Spirit. The problem isn't hair, noses, legs and fleshy parts... It's the soul in the man that wants to steal then acts it out with his body. Jesus was dealing with us on the inside and if everyone acted like Jesus it would in fact be a PERFECT world. They never write about what Jesus looked like because it didn't matter, it was about what He was saying "hence the Word of God". It's the simplest thing to understand once you truly see who you are and why this world is a mess. I agree religion is one of the main reasons the world is a mess. Don't forget... religion and the government are who killed Jesus. He was calling them out. Less religion and more Jesus!

      @Skydaddy Myth-Busters
      Trying to establish your "credentials" for lack of a better term as a "former believer" by saying that you were "slain in the spirit" (which is unbiblical really) and speaking in tongues just highlights the lack of foundation you had in the word of God, sir. And that's unfortunate.
      But aside from that even professed atheists are religious without realizing it, we all have presuppositions about the world for us to function in it, when we peel back the layers enough to get to epistemology is when that comes to light.
      If you look down on "faith" as you call it, that would simply make you inconsistent because your faith lies somewhere as well, even if not in a religious worldview.
      Plus, no true believer can change your mind or convince you, God has to transform your heart for that to happen, but that would require you to humble yourself. It doesn't matter how sincere you used to be as a "former believer", you were sadly sincerely deceived and never truly a believer, according to the Word of God.
