  • What Was So Wrong About Dressing Up As Bushra Bibi for Halloween? | AHI Opinion
AHI is Aamna Haider Isani and will bring to you the life, style and soul of my life.
The word AHI may be the acronym of my name, but it independently stands for a species of Hawaiian Tuna. Ahi is an apt name for me. As a Piscean, fish is my symbol and water my element.
But this channel isn't about astronomy. l'll be tapping into my 20-year career as a fashion journalist to cover fashion as a source of self-expression and body positivity. We'll have a little bit of fun in shows like Fashion Fortnightly. I'll be connecting with fashionable creatures in Meet the Muse and reviewing fun, new products in the short FIR - First Impression Review. Aamna 101 will take you into my life while The AHI Icon will bring you an exceptional person, whose story inspires.

Actually it was quite disrespectful, she cover herself as an act to follow Islam not for some weirdo dude to copy her plus she isn't a media person that one would say that she isn't private. And i am strictly against Halloween,it is not a part of our religion or culture. I don't know why ppl who are slowly showing no interest in Eids are overexcited for these strange things.

Its not an offense just to Bushra Bibi but all the women who wear abaya or prefer to cover themselves, if a woman wearing jeans top is independent to choose whatever she wants for herself and she should not be judged, the same attitude should also be adopted towards women who like to cover themselves. There is nothing wrong to represent her look or mimic her look but infact Halloween is something where people dress themselves as scary or unusual and odd while abaya or niqaab is not scary or unusual.infact it is degnified and respectful. I don wear abaya, i dont cover my face instead, I wear dupatta and cover my head but i have equal respect for all the women who wish to wear abaya and niqab or prefer jeans-top.

With the magnitude of hate crimes against hijabis and the lack of respect these women get, it was beyond disgusting and shameful for Yawar to dress up like that. Bushra bibi wears a burqa for herself, and you don’t have to like her or Imran khan to respect her clothing choices. It’s a mockery of Islam as a whole (a huge and *major* sin), and highly insensitive to the rhetoric about hijab and niqab today. People in India and France (and many other places) are stripped of their right to wear what they want, and he still thought it was ok to dress up like that? Shame on you Yawar Iqbal and everyone involved in organizing the look (if my sources are correct that includes Tabesh Khoja and Nabila Salon)

First of all thankyou Amina for such a good segment , I truly appreciate your intellect and the way you so neutrally talk about subjects , living in U.S for past 20 yrs I don't celebrate Halloween neither more than half of Muslim community living here ,I have seen more enthusiasm in Pakistan and other Muslim countries when it comes to Valentine day or Halloween than Muslims who r living in foreign countries for half of thr lives, but then to each thr own I believe if it's not hurting anyone personally putting a dent in your income than it shouldn't bother what other ppl doing , now coming to dressing up as Bushra bibi I think it was done in poor taste Hijaab isn't a costume which you can put for your and others entertainment, wearing it myself and that too in a Western country its a everyday struggle not just for me but many females who chose to wear it and face discrimination , just like here in past U.S celeb have paint thr face black to look like a African American character and its offensive ,thr r some lines which shouldn't be crossed period . Again I really appreciate you and all your work watching you make me feel I am watching a part of my home and I feel connected to Pakistan so Thankyou . Best wishes from Texas ..

Q:What was so wrong about dressing up as Bushra Bibi on Halloween?
    A: Halloween.
Very apologetic explanation of history and contemporary Halloween.
Trick and treat was also a Celtic codeword for collecting human sacrifices from households.
Even modern day pagans/ wiccans get offended with the modern day treatment of their religious festival and they fully reclaim the ancient value of festival.
And yes the costume mimicry of a someone's personal lifestyle is sheerly offensive and there's no excuse for creative liberty here.
    Very well points raised.
Also the use of witch hunt as pun was really good. ( If this falls in the category of offensive let me know... That is not my intention. I end up being too liberal for the conservatives and too conservative for the liberals , unintended mysoginstic vibes for the feminist and Uber feminist for the mysoginsts .(yet not a feminist). Not a great place to be so we may have a disagreement.)

Hijab or Abaya has not been mocked here , someone's signature look has been tried . There's that difference

Amina I want to say something!
Thank you 🙏 for saying this because u have a platform. Whatever I write it’s not personal attack . It is something that has hurt me seeing yawar like this. Let me tell u I am in California, a physician and coming from a women power family where women are self made and worked hard( why I am telling this because people try to satisfy their ego by saying the person writing this is looser and keyboard warrior)
I wanted to slap 👋 the person because I felt my very own family women for being disrespected!
Why? because my role model, my nani was a hijab practicing Muslim and she covered her face when she was young and then wore a chaddar all her life! My khala wore a chaddar all her life. I try modest attire. My nani was of generation of migration and self made honorable Pakistani who sacrificed to make this country.
Not only he mocked a religious modesty he also further made a comment about a sexual position! The most symbolic Muslim women attire he wore to a party where there was alcohol 🍷 and they got drunk. women from a famous digital platform ( who try to be so feminist )was dancing with him with possibly a glass of wine 🍷
So there are rights for women who are liberal but there is no right or respect or dignity for a religious women?
What do they think they can get away with this behavior?
This was the attire of prophets wife ( who are our mother ) and his daughters.
I am so offended by this. Somehow this disrespect feels personal!
Where are all the feminist and mera jism meri merzi brigade now???

You are absolutely right and on point ❤
People don’t have limits and boundaries. They don’t care about religious and cultural values and it’s a shame.
This year Halloween wasn’t as big as it used to be…people are stepping back especially Muslim communities here. Why on earth Pakistanis started celebrating it?

Brilliantly put Amna, I don’t take to social forums at all and respond to social media discussions but you explained the taboo behind Halloween celebration (prevalent in Pakistan & most extreme mindsets) so well & everything that’s wrong with a Bushra Bibi costume that I had to applaud you….. one thing I’ve learned living in USA (LA) the world is becoming woke to so many wrongs that were previously right & at the same time becoming overly sensitive & offended to norms (that are not really offensive) that social & public expression is becoming a vexing exercise when it comes to defining what should be tolerable & what’s not…. but this is a serious discussion for another time :)
Right now I’m enjoying watching your wonderful posts on AHI❤

Your video was totally on point .Yawar Iqbal ‘s act was totally unacceptable , and you are right about islamophobia. I have seen it myself in Europe when I was visiting a few places with some Arabic hijab wearing frends of mine , the look of anger / hate on locals faces was so embarrassing . Strongly condemn his act and I hope and pray that he realizes his mistake and issues an apology.

Halloween birth is the most jahalat thing!! Parties karna , kaana khilana, gifts dena dilana ye sab sunnat hai aur in islam its highly liked!! But Halloween is simply more paganism which dud come after Adam A.S. and on and off Allah sent other prophets to guide people again and again who on and off keep going astray!! But you see after Muhammad (saw) no prophets are coming, it's us tge muslim ummah who MUST hold our faith seriously and spread to mankind thst they get heed!!
Just FYI in the west true Christians and Jews DO NOT celebrate Halloween they actually DONT agree with it!!
Thank you Amna for speaking up for this!! But kindly do not define humiliating, costumes, art, humor as " creativeness " !!
That's just demeaning the other aspects of life like cooking, architecture, nature, science, engineering etc as not creativeness which it is!! People cannot just be wild hurt others feelings, be shameless and get away with the word creativeness!!

Would they creat a look representing hindu religion? Like kali maata or anyother god/goddess Or Christian, Like dressing as Priest? Or any other religion? The answer is NO. Wahan they belive in respecting other's belive & sentiments. But when it's about Islam, they always mock Islamic believes & teachings. May Allah curse them because they do these things intentionally.

Thank you for bringing this to the fore Aamna. As Muslims we are allowing our identity and our values to be eroded by mindlessly adopting behaviors and rituals from others. And we need a voice of reason to point this out. Thank you for doing that!

Aamna, I am curious on your viewpoint of Soniya's response on Hasan's show regarding domestic violence. Particularly on people should settle it privately, why didn't the person leave sooner or you shouldn't boycott. Rather assist them in seeking mental therapy. Can you force someone to seek help? Was there a disregard for women experiencing mental, physical, emotional violence? To change a person's behavior a drastic change must be made. If you don't raise awareness or call this behavior out & let them bear the consequences, will they ever learn a lesson. I was disappointed. The society already places a huge burden on women to stay in toxic relationships & I was expecting a woman to understand. Maybe I am being too critical. Your thoughts?

This was totally wrong to dress up like "Bushra bibi", good to speak up Amna.
Very respectfully I'll disagree , don't you think Amna Halloween should be discourged to be celebrated in Pakistan, there's no use of it and we don't need to give it such a place in our system. There are so many other things, events we can celebrate. There r many ways to be happy , have fun and celebrate, I'm not an extremist, a moderate Muslim, still I don't feel good about it. Gory to hame copy nahe karty why do we copy them by celebrating these type of days. What we r teaching our children, infact there's nothing wrong in being happy and celberating, as have our own events and can creat more. At least in these times we should stop following west blindly, we need to creat a boundary somewhere. And our children should have such a strong faith and opinion that even when they go abroad they shouldn't become a part of these festivities. Its sad that here in pak we r promoting it without even knowing what we r doing and why?
