I notice he’s not using the sticking from the sheet music. Is that a big deal during audition? (I mean, we’re behind a screen)

The stickings I use are a personal preference. I find crossovers to be more problematic (especially for young percussionists) when it comes to sound-quality consistency as compared with doubles on the same drum. I don't believe there's a rule against using different stickings (please correct me if this is wrong). Best of luck on your audition!!
