I have a theory about Bloc Party.
When they started they were all young full of energy and for the singer closeted. So they had a lot of passion and anger they were trying to get out through there songs. By the the third album the guitarists wante dto explore more “adult materia. By which I mean slower music with more techno elements which the Raytheon section never really got on board with and tried to add more energy too but eventually just left. This is especially clear in the drumming as even on slow songs Tong would have complex and often energetic drumming but without that and having drumming more slow it robs them of there greatest strength
this and all the problem's with drugs but tong was still rocking with the eletronic beats
I really feel bad for the new drummers that would follow Matt Tong, they'll always be in his shadow and will always be compared to him.
Low key though, I have a crush on Louise.😂

This band used to be my ultimate favourite band mostly for their energetic and passionate performances (especially this song)This is not that.

its sad how far down bloc party has fallen. used to be my favorite band. its a shame they showed potential with silent alarm and even with AWINTC.
But you gotta think dude. Those albums were a decade ago.. and they were in their early 20's. people's lives change over 10 years, and that really can change how music is written or played.
Kele and the rest of the band were in their mid 20's and I think Gordon was 30 at that time. It was a different time for the band.
Weekend is their best. If you can't go along with their changes that's fine, but it's a strange to say they've "fallen" when it's their music.
Didn't dig Intimacy? Probably my favorite, tied with Silent Alarm.

Unfortunately for you, Tong is a stubborn, petulant, condescending, indignant little bastard who is disinterested in the wishes of Bloc Party fans for any kind of reunion. Tong wasn't fired, he quit. I'd bet 10 to 1 that he was quietly asked to join Bloc Party on their upcoming Silent Alarm anniversary tour and turned it down flat. I'd also bet 10 to 1 that if (when) Gordon Moakes was also asked to do the tour, he told them he would if Tong did. 10 to 1.
