Scottish Guitarist Matthew McAllister presents excerpts from a new work for guitar by Nancy Johnstone. Written as a companion piece to Federico Mompou's 'Cuna' from 'Suite Compostelana', 'Cuna', translating to 'the cradle', shares the same wavering, back-and-forth motion as the original work, although with high-activity, irregularity and chaotic instability. Following a year long project with RCS Guitar & RCS Composition students, RCS guitar graduate and Associate Artist Sean Shibe curated an exciting programme of new compositions, I helped bring Nancy's challenging piece to life.

Can we learn classical guitar by books ourselves without teacher?
In my opinion, you can play at a decent level by being self-taught, especially with the wealth of material that’s online. For more advanced repertoire and technical problem-solving, not to mention having a developed ear that can guide your musicality, getting some one-on-one time with a qualified teacher becomes a must.
Hi Matthew, this is testing my understanding of "modern" music. The tune (sorry, I'm not very technical) has a lovely light & airy feel. I will check the links you give here to Nancy. Many thanks 👏👏
Good work🙂
Thanks 🙂
