- What a fantastic little keyboard this is! I've had the STVC for a couple of months now and in this video I cover a few of its features that have really surprised me, and in a good way.
If you want to see an amazing demo of the STVC which shows off its sound capabilities, then check out Daniel Fisher's brilliant video here: • Waldorf STVC String Sy...
Looks really interesting.....however I ended up selling my old Waldorf synths, (Blofeld & Microwavext) after the rotary encoders began to fail.......sad really.....great upload, very well presented
Lovely tune at the end. Thanks for showing the synth.
Great video, this sold me I'm going to buy one!!
Oh so pleased to see you do a video on one of my favourite synths. A never sell for me …great build and keyboard and lovely sounds plus a vocoder. This is a great video and shows some of the hidden versatility and sound creation beneath the surface and done so well as usual. Any chance you might do a pt II using the string section and …maybe…a sequencer ???😊
I've never heard of it! Thanks for the video, watching now while being rained off work!
This video was Amazing 🤩 and this has been on my list for years. Poor Waldorf never gets enough credit
Just got this...and your video is a better manual than the manual
Wonderful and useful review:)! I've always thought this is an interesting instrument from a distance and you've proven to me the hidden merits of this elegant machine! Thank you!!!
Sounds cool, the freeze and Mod options really open up a whole world of sonic wonders, id be tempted to play a wavetable into it then mod it so it's acts kinda like a wavetable synth with the STVC's goodies coming into play. Great video as always enjoyable :)
Bloody genius! "How to sell a synth to a skeptic" - that's what this video should be called! I'm now in the queue!
.....a demo so good I bought the synth....got a great deal from Thomans in Germany...very excited. It will be here in a few days.
What a beguiling sound. I am suddenly committed to getting an STVC and sampling overdriven matriarch chords into the freeze, using this delicious reverb and then sending back through the matriarch stereo delay! I am excited indeed. Thanks for the consistently high quality content and inspiration. My partner is less enthusiastic 😉
Mr Daniel Fisher 👍
Thank You. Tim ,I Have this synth and I am very happy with it. Once again you have done a Outstanding job. Great information.. I am a professional composer for over 40 years, with many instruments.. And I love all your videos. 🎉. I also plan to get more of your sounds for my Waldorf Iridium. I have some installed already. Great ..Kind Regards, TotallyKenny.
Thx again. Just got 2nd hand as I was missed Streichfett I sold. Didn't expected so powerful modulation. And my kids love the play with vocoder so this is an instant happines then. BTW also an impulse decission on my side as I just sold my last Electron box and basically exchanged it for this magic keyboard. Yep, I'm a huge fan of Waldorf.
War of the Worlds! That was certainly apropos. Great video, and surprising too. I had my eye on the STVC when it came out and I lusted after it, without ever knowing the details you just shared. I think if I'd known this then, I would have certainly bought one. It does sound quite digital compared to some of the older stringers or vocoders, but still sounds very very good to my ears.
Love the War of the Worlds homage!
II knew you would like the STVC! Thanks for the tips and tricks! I have had mine for almost two years now. I wouldn't call it a synthesizer. It's too limited for that but it is so good at what it can do. I used the vocoder to create a Russian, sorry, Ukranian female choir. I even sold my Korg VC-10 after this purchase. This month I recorded the string section for the first time. The phaser is amazing. The morphing capabilities are truly inspiring. One forgets it is digital. I could listen to one sustained chord for hours. So far, only listening to my Solina String-Ensemble equals that experience. As for cons, I had to buy a medical magnifying glass with a lamp to read the stamp size display., though. Being USB powered it is incompatible with CME Widi master. Layering and splitting could be more flexible. In short, It's a great yet affordable keyboard which any creative artist will find its use for.
Love the content and the mood! Quite tempting! My last impulse buy was an Analog Keys. You never did a video with a product from Elektron. I am sure you will find this little synth quite inspiring too. Cheers!
Best demo of the stvc I've seen! So good to see more of it's capabilities that aren't often shown & am convinced to finally go for one after all this time. (^-^)/. Many thanks for a great vid!
I love my STVC! Great video.
I love mine! Great video as always.
The Streichfett sound reminded me of early Schulze.
Superb
I was just at the music store and love my vocoders so had a play. When I pushed the freeze button I was like omg I need one.
just got a old korg radias for the 16 - 7.5sec recordings and great vocoder, right up there with the STVC.
08:47 This just made me buy one. I have had my eye on the STVC for a few years but never took the plunge. I just found a second hand one on Reverb and snapped it up 🙂
Really wish they would’ve put in a delay in the effects section too.
That's a very creative tool 👍
Streichfett means something like Spreadbutter in German.
spreadable fat
Also Streich-Instument is a string instrument. So that's why. A phat string instrument
It's a great synth, but can overtake your mix if not used carefully, I had 1 and sold it, which was a regret, I found I was caught up in the same sound over and over.
That was my mistake in not understanding the finesse of the instrument.
Yep it’s a nice play on words
Looool
Does the length of the freeze loop depend on how long you press it for or is there a way to set the loop length on the main panel?
The loop length is dependent on what you record but you can adjust after using the "mod matrix" technique
You can also play the sound in the freezer via midi which makes it a sampler. really cool for repetitive music
Superb video , covering stuff other hardly touch , one small question if you don't mind , when using the freeze frunction can we also inject osc sounds ? and play the whole thing together ?
Thks
Thanks
I have Streichfett and Blofeld, but may be adding this one, too...
Tim, you're making me regret not getting one. There were none available near me to demo when I was outfitting my studio. In the end I decided on a vintage Roland SVC350 vocoder and relegated the string sounds to other synths like the Korg DW8000 or Roland D50 and now a UDO Super 6.
Still, I'm starting to reconsider.
its amazing, I already saw long ago many videos about this synth... but I swear nobody ever said something about this function...
Thanks for this vid. I don't like vocoders, well, I like the sound, but I think the talking is cheesy. But I always wanted a vocoder based synth which would resynthesize the granules of the vocoder input, and this seems to do just that. Amazing stuff, really opens up the sounds it can produce immensely.
Another great video Tim, question though, quite a few of your recent synth pickups could be classed as impulse buys…🤔😁🙌
AMAZING possibilities! Never expected that! A granular synth? Wow! please make another video, ths is really helpful to use the whole potential of this instrument! This synthesizer is so powerful! One question: Why not using the modulation wheel instead the pitchbend wheel?
Seeing what a big device it is when you held it up I only now understand why it's so more expensive than the Streichfett. I own the Streichfett which I love very, very much. Still think it's overpriced. It's not a one trick pony like the Solina combined w/ an Electro-Harmonix Small Stone phaser.
BTW: How do you like the STVC's keyboard? Does it have a "premium" feel? Is it velocity sensitive and can you use it as a master Midi keyboard for other synths? I take it the keys are full size?
well done
dear tim!
thx for always inspiring and finding special instruments. i know u have sooo much to do, and less time, but i watched this video sooo often , i guess 2/3 of clicks are from me. there is not much usefull content of the vocoder on yt. do u still own it? and if so, can u imagine to make another quick episode of it someday? try to sell my blofeld for the stvc… fingers crossed✌🏼
The KORG R3 synth has exactly the same function allowing you to record a phrase that can be replayed by the vocoder.
Wish it had mpe
thanks tim, great tips i will explore on my stvc. i love it and will never sell it. i love vocoders and that is the only reason i bought it, along with the jupiter xm with vocal designer (beautiful vocoder), and the so underrated kingkorg (vocoder with the tube) far out. 3 fabulous vocoders i will never sell. looking for the next great one ?
"...with love, with love, with love."
Oh No! Another temptation. I thought I was done buying synths!
What I've found that is rather odd is that the keyboard can be split when in vocoder mode where the low end is a bass(solo) sound and the vocoder is the rest of the keyboard. Some of your techniques were interesting and things I have not tried.
Hi Tim. Have you compared this with the Behringer VC340 … ?
Yes I have a VC340. That synth uses analogue circuits to very closely recreate an iconic sound, whereas the STVC is a digitally generated emulation that is a lot more flexible. I guess it all depends if you only want to reproduce "that" sound or if you want a more flexible instrument with wider sonic capabilities....
Hi Tim. Cool video! Could you use the sustain pedal to prevent the freeze from stopping?
Yes, I should have plugged one in for the demo 👍
Now this looks like a keyboard you would never sell 😂
The World's most interesting synthesist
Is it true that the LFO can not by synced to the MIDI-clock?
There are no sync options for the LFO's as far as I can tell
I want one of these. Is the engine entirely digital, analog/hybrid?
Digital, I wish it was analog like the VC340
@Rhizosphere 👍
Looks the same as a Blofeld in finish, damn heavy and fine synth, great fatar keybed too.
@Rhizosphere That's quite the informative write up, I have keys Blofeld but paid only $800 here, desktop is $899 asking here, STVC is 1499 asking here so unless I can get one close to what I paid from JunoUK then I would have a hard pass.
That's excellent that it is so similar to Blofeld in build quality, makes me want 1 even more.
@Rhizosphere Blofeld is my best Keybed I have played!!
It looks like a lot of fun but I think after a few months I would be tired of it, not a keeper.
Exactly what happened to me.

tiny display sucks. font size is a joke. is a magnifying glass included in the purchase? what was rolf wöhrmann thinking, for god´s sake?
Little OLED screens are very common, Polyend Medusa, Modal Cobalt and Argon, Korg Minilogue and XD, King Korg, Arturia Microfreak and I'm sure a load more...
@@TimShoebridge yes, but this is even tinier. total crap imo.
Mmm, a old Roland V Synth is better.
The Waldorf is like a 399 euro synth.
