Jon Faure gives you a few pointers on how to ride dirt jumps even if you suck. Jon is a smooth rider who didn't come to BMX until he was in his late 30's. But he has good points for everyone who wants to ride dirt jumps for the first time or wants to get better. Jon wishes to thank Sunday Bikes, IXS Protection and Linq components. I am female, 59, legally blind (not totally) and I am learning to jump. It's scary because I can't see my landing, but went to Valmont Bike Park in Bouler, CO and am starting to get it on smaller jumps. I can't wait to go back and learn some more. It's so much fun.

I remember being 23, when the teen years weren't too far back thinking, "well that went by fast, do that 3 more times and you'll be nearly 100!" I called it my quarter life crisis. Turning 30 was hard, but I just turned 36, and I think the 6 years of my 30's have been way more awesome then all of my 20's. My advise is to do what you love and make time to do it!

My kinda dude.. 46 and butter. He's modest as well. I raced 15 years got out.. I'm 36 just getting back in so this is really good for me to see. You younger guys will see getting older is a bitch.. You can still do just about everything you used to could, you just can't take a hit like you used to. Used to you might miss school a couple days if you fell and broke something.. At 36 you can miss a mortgage payment if you break something. So.. If you see an older dude marinating thinking of hitting a big set.. Let him marinate try not to bust his balls to hard. He's just going over if it's worth the risk of missing his mortgage or car payment this month... :)

I fell in love the first time i hit a nice jump and have been going there as much as i can. there are a lot of table top lines that i do because i cant seem to clear the jumps all the way through. and just a couple weeks ago broke my hand and collar bone while there. Great vid. I've just turned 40 recently & have done some of my best riding this year in the U.K./U.S. I remember going into a BMX shop a couple of years back & this dude joking about it being a while, today when I asked a girl in Evans about BMX bikes she hinted it could draw in a slightly younger trick crowd to a suit infested area of London. Well fuck it, tomorrow I'm buying a BMX & will learn a few tricks for the biddies. I especially liked the jumping lessons here, as although I've done plenty of BMX & mountain biking before, I've generally never tried the jumps. There are plenty of tracks around town to practise on, & perfect my skills for the mountain trails.

Damn, 47 and can ride like that!?!?! I'm just about the same age and cruise around on a 24 myself, but I don't do nothing but ride it to get some degree of exercise before drinking a six pack of beer...lol!!! Beach cruisers, mountain bikes, road bikes or fixies just do nothing for me. I love my BMX 24 cruiser and that's as far as I go. The closes thing I do to trick riding on my BMX is to hold my six pack while riding back from the liquor store. Taking it to the level that this guy does at 47 is definitely some cool S _ _ t!!! I raise one of the bottles from my six pack and say cheers to you!!! Keep up the good riding... I'm living life on my 24 vicariously through you!!! :oD

I have that stem and have used it for a few years. When new its a tad dodgy but man when its worn in, it doesn't budge for anything.

Awesome tips! I had a bmx 25 years ago. LOL! I've been trying to recall how to bunny hop and so far, I'm doing great. I want to do what you're doing. I was at Raceway Woods yesterday and I stood on one of the dirt ramp/mound, I felt dizzy. LOL! Maybe if I start on a smaller mound, I'll get use to it. Thanks for sharing your tips again!

Thank You! I'm only 24 and my dad is always riding me about riding a "kids" bike (Mongoose BMX bike) instead of a mountain bike or something "adults" should ride. I'm like hello! You've watch the X games with me? What's the difference you see in their bikes and mine? (well other than quality, got mine on sale... is crap) But yeah, thank you for being 47 and riding BMX. You rock and totally prove my point! You don't have to be a kid to ride a BMX bike...

BMX track is for BMX races about 8 people race through the course, some jumps table tops and those thing, the jumps don't have a big gap in the middle, dirt jumps are more for doing tricks, usually you have a ramp bit of space and then landing, usually 2 separate pieces, on BMX most jumps are just one thing.

Well at the beginning many people gave me many advices, but in the end i still had to figure everything out by myself, because there's no time to think when hitting a trail. Just action-reaction. So my advice is: Try, try again and again until you achieve what you want.

A year later i can 180, feeble, 360, tire tap, and im close to barspins, and working on tailwhips. Yes these are street tricks, but honestly all it takes is hard work. I am so glad I chose to buy a bmx bike, it has really changed my life for the better.

Respect to you ma man! I like downhill biking much better than dirt jumping despite having a dirt jump bike too...
I'm a Portuguese immigrant in Holland for 7 years now and when I left my country we all did downhill but in the last 3 years the group started practicing dirt jumping,we still do downhill but like 5% of the time,(we go on big trips specifically to do downhill on places that r totally unknown to us)well dirt jumping is much more practical for them to do since the jumps are very close

Awesome vid! It really helped. Also, my english teacher at Palo Alto Highschool (Jim Harbaugh, Jeremy Lin, and more...) was the number one BMX racer for his age in the 80's he was like 13 or something, Craig Bark. Best english teacher ever!

so it's obvious that the group is evolving, and with that the gap between them and me is getting bigger! I can clear tables and small gaps but no tricks yet as I'm still struggling to find my flow and also to get more comfortable while in mid-air...
Although dirt jumping doesn't moves me like downhill does,I decided to invest more of my time in it,Holland doesn't have mountains nor hills,it's a totally flat country but there are dirt jumps here and there, some of which are quite big...

I’m 37 and hit my first tiny dirt jump today, extremely fun but I feel like a old creep so I only go when nobody’s there. Been a few times riding burms but just did a jump today 😎

Same here.. Haven't rode in close to 10yrs, I'll be 31 soon and let me tell you, eating shit at a skate park at 30yrs old is not the same when you're a teenager or in your early 20's.. I guess I gotta eat more protein and try to stay active and fit.. Kudos to you man at your age..

A DMR Drone will serve you well if you want something to start out with. It's available with 26 or 24 inch wheels! It's quite a plain bike and it's ready to take any upgrades you want as you get better and better at riding!
If you have any questions at all shoot me a message. Good luck kid! Ride on.

Occasionally I will go out to my towns trails the night before a big session is planned and fuck everything up(dig holes in the rythm sections, flatten the lips on jumps and place hidden obstacles on the trail). I show up the next day like I know nothing! LOL the looks on the locals faces is PRICELESS :)

close to our homes in comparison to the hill where we used to do downhill,it's like 6 or 7 km's away, and also the guys that don't do dirt jumping can go watch them jump and to their tricks since it's in the area where we all live in.
But now when I go there during my Summer vacations and I watch them jump I feel a bit sad and sorry for not being on the same level as they are now, throwing big tricks and shit, also the Portuguese national dirt jump champion joined the group in this last year,
