NRM - National Railway Museum, York - Visit February 2020

- After Storm Ciara stopped our earlier attempt to visit the National Railway Museum (NRM) at the start of the month we decided to retry our visit on 23/02/2020.
Even though the entrance to the museum has moved we start in the Great Hall. Items on show include: Diesels Class 20, 40, 52 and 55 as well as the GWR Rail Car and the new addition of HST power car 43002.
We also have electric traction in the form of the Shinkansen Bullet Train, Hitachi IEP training cab and Class 76 Woodhead electric.
Steam traction seen including the world famous A4 Mallard, 9F evening Star, SECR D Class, GNR Stirling Single, L&YR Lanky Tank, GWR Star Class, Stanier 4P and Southern Railway Q1.
After this we take a quick look of the East Coast Mainline from the viewing gallery.
After this we move to the Station Hall to see various coaches and wagons as well as Class 87 electric, and LMS Crab and GNR J52 locomotives.
We then move to the South yard to enjoy a brake van ride and ride behind the miniature Deltic. and views of Class 47, 02, 08 diesels.
Finally we finish the tour in the Collections Store with a quick look at various railway items.

great video there lots of chanes between u video and mine we wend there on 30-01 to visit the museum this year after 12 years sinds my last visit from netherlands for the railway fest held ad museum back then 😀
There has been alot of changes, not all for the better. Last time I went I was very disappointed with it.
My favorite railway, railroad, train museum in the whole world.
It's a good place. Even though I went summer last year, it's still feels like your first visit when you go.

I seriously hope that soon there will be a virgin trains class 390 pendolino there in it's old red livery that runs on the west coast mainline
think it will be many years till they start being withdrawn, but maybe one day in the future?
I never thought I would see a production hst power car in the NRM so who knows??

Was a good day, just a shame all the diesels are pushed to a corner.
Dont get me wrong I like both steam and diesel, it just felt like they were there cause they had to be, not because they were wanted
@@LBTrains there's a few things I've seen that give me the same impression of the NRM re diesels 😥
Oh, and why don't we can reuse the 5 Caradge Class 313's, Class 314 and Class 315 and replace the Electric part underneath with Volvo B10M, Gardner 8LXB and Gardner 6LXB Diesel Engines with 8 Speed Leyland Hydra cyclic Gearboxes Please?
That would be thinking. Although the company that was converting old tube stock has gone into administration, so may not be a market for it?

This was only three years ago and the museum has gone massively downhill. All the locos they’ve given away combined with some of the pointless additions spoil the experience in many ways.
I'd agree I took my soon a few years ago and it wasn't as good as it used to be
