There is no better or worse , or best, unless you want opinion, just different styles and genre . Though Reign in Blood is probably considered by many Slayer'sr best album, others may say another album. Slayer is thrash metal. Metallica is heavy with some thrash metal songs. Next from Slayer on this album to check out is Postmortem and Raining Blood. On this album members of Slayer were: Tom Araya - vocals and bass, Kerry King - guitar, Jeff Hanneman - guitar (died 2013), Dave Lombardo - Drums. The "Big Four" Metal bands are Slayer, Metallica, Megadeth and Anthrax. Slayer, as of now, no longer exist as a band. Testament is a band that would be IMO the fifth band in a top 5.

Testament is awesome. Exodus could be a 5th too. Metallica for their first 4 albums were pretty much all thrash. Once the black album came out they changed to more heavy metal with some thrash.

Metal lyrics usually tell a story - not dis-similar to some hip hop - this one being about Joseph Mengele and what he did in concentration camps. They copped a lot of flack for this song but they did nothing but explain what the history books wouldn't. A lot of Metallica songs are based on novels or topics at the time no one wanted to talk about such as pollution, corruption by man in the church, etc....if your into the bible do Metallica Creeping Death (with lyrics) which tells the Exodus/passover story.

SLAYER! Hard to pick a best song from SLAYER. They aren’t a radio friendly type band. Definitely checkout the song World Painted Blood, the album has the same name. That song is heavy as hell and has a groove in the breakdown riff. 👍

Slayer is a band that hides meaningful songs behind misleading titles. Their lyrics are always on point. Behind the crooked cross is about German soldiers during WWII. South of Heaven is about life. One of the best drummers in the world behind some incredible lyrics. You should check out Kill Switch Engaged and Hell Yeah.

Slayer is....interesting. They're iconic in the thrash metal world and heavily influential, but I'm not a big fan of a lot of their stuff. Definitely a lot to take in on the first listen lmao. It's heavy as fuck, fast as hell, and borderline chaotic-sounding. That being said, this is probably top 5 for them for sure. That slower rhythmic section in the middle is just pure energy and power.
This particular song is about Josef Mengele, who was a Nazi scientist and performed horrific human experiments. A lot of Slayer's music deals with dark subject matter like this
If you wanna venture a little more in the heavy side of metal, I recommend checking out Slipknot. They've got a good mix of heavy screaming/growling and clean, melodic vocals, plus some killer instrumentation.

For this band "South of Heaven" is good and is a bit more accessible for people new to the genre. Metallica is also Thrash Metal by the way. They kind of invented the genre. Though Slayer is just different there is no better for me. It depends upon my mood. Slayer is intense though.
Slayer and Metallica's first album's both came out within months of each other in 1983 so you can't really say Metallica invented it :)
@@Will_Wel It's been awhile since I listened exclusively to Slayer's "Show No Mercy". There are some songs I really like on there. I don't know if it was Thrash or not. I suspect it was. Yet the truth is Metallica's first in circulation album was "No Life Till Leather" which predates Kill em' all.
@@futurewavecs true. Even if so I'd say Slayer perfected it. Most will argue Metallica and Megadeth were technically better musicians. But I will argue that the energy aggression and pure thrashyness of Slayer far exceeds the others. The mosh pits don't lie on that fact. And I always prefer Dave Lombardo on the drums :)
@@Will_Wel - The people that introduce a new thing rarely are the ones to perfect it. It tends to come after the introduction. As to Slayer... another name for Thrash Metal when it came out was Speed Metal. I'd say Slayer is definitely top of the heap when it comes to that particular criteria. :) I like both of them and have since I first heard them. I was lucky enough to live through them releasing their material.

The record label distributing Def Jam, at the time it was Sony Music, refused to release Reign In Blood based on this song alone. AOD was written about Josef Mengele, a doctor at Auschwitz who performed all the experiments on the prisoners detailed in the lyrics.

Slayer is Slayer man. You can’t hate them at all the input they’ve had to metal in general has been immense. These are true to their roots and played faster, louder, heavier and with dark imagery. I prefer Slayer over Metallica, Megadeth, Exodus, etc. but honestly it’s about preference

Ice T has even covered them. They had a weird connection with the hip hop community back in the late 80s through rick rubin. They are definitely an acquired taste but "South of Heaven" is much more accessible, Rick Rubins production is amazing on that song

Amazing song about an awful person and the horrible things he did. Like Chris said, they caught a lotta shit for this song. But the band merely presented the song in a historical manner. If anything bringing light to the subject. (Funny part is the singer is catholic) but a lot of their songs are like this. Dead skin mask about Ed Gein. Unit 731 about the exact horrors but in Japanese concentration camps. Silent scream about abortion. I fucking love history. (Hate the horrors of it; but it’s important to know and understand so as not to be repeated) And I love slayer. Keep jamming dude you should do one of those songs next

Number one for Slayer. Important overall to thrash and its development. Exodus, Testament, Creator, Sodom and Hobbs Angel Of Death were all active the same time as the big 4. The time was ripe for inspiration. They're all different but equally as important to the genre as a whole.

A history lesson of evil man and people in a song
Slayer holds a special place in my heart. Ranking bands like Slayer, Megadeth and Metallica, is like ranking classical composers. It all comes down to personal taste, they are all awesome! Some might claim (and I'd agree) that Slayer has the best drummer, Megadeth have the best guitarists and Metallica perhaps are the best allround, perhaps that's why they are the biggest when it comes to fame?

There isn’t one answer on who is better. It all depends on what the person listening wants to hear in music. For me Metallica has always been my number one as they were my baptism in metal with And Justice For All back in 1988 when it came out. I was 8 and my mum brought it home and stole it from her. 😂😂
