People scoff at the "decal package" performance cars of the Malaise Era. But those cars were attractive! This Mustang is proof of that. You did a beautiful job with it. Also got a kick out of seeing Michelin TRXs in their "Natural Habit" as opposed to those dozens of applications where they were an "invasive species".😂
Yes. This one was a good looking car! For me the worst kits that had these tires were the Shelby Cobras from Monogram. The first kits had these TRXs for fronts and Goodyear Radial GT for rears! I built some with the lettering on the inside. Sometime in the late 90s those kits got new Goodyear Bluestreak tires and I grab those tires every chance I get!
@@TheMuscleCarModeler Yes! I think I could build every car in my collection with the upgraded wheel & tire package in those most recent Revell Dueces. Big & Littles with Goodyear Bluestreaks outback and Dunlop Sportscar Specials out front? And those Torque Thrusts all around. I am too much of a Factory Stock Purist to do that, but a build or two with Day Two modifications will sneak through.
I like the Monogram Mustangs to. Your correct. It hasn't been reissued. Great kit. Gotta go check stash on the rear fin. Always wish they made the 85 / 86 model. Thanks for sharing
I had a friend that had a 86 GT 5.0 5 speed! His daughter used it as her first car in high school and graduated in 2019! She loved the car but felt is was too much for her so they sold it and her second car became a 92 Honda Del Sol SI.
I got this is a grab bag for a Christmas present and from Fry's School in Burbank all my other friends got different types of things king cobra to like you know like Charlie's Angel type wants all different types and older mustangs like Mark ones but I got the 1979 Ford Mustang for the Indianapolis 500. In this little kid is worth $50 or more now. And I wish to build it the right way instead of the wrong way. I wish I can find this one again it's really classic.
I built this kit when it originally came out. I was probably around 12 years old and I remember being thrilled at how detailed the engine seemed to me at the time.
Your cars always come out so nice. Mines always look like crap. Thank you for posting these so I can see what they actually look like when they are put together correctly.
I built this kit when it was new, I don't remember the rear spoiler having those cutouts. I don't think that's factory correct and I would have noticed if mine were done that way. I remember really liking the decals on this one, really well done. I also did a '79 Turbo Cobra, '81 Cobra, and '84 SVO, but they were MPC kits.
Those Monogram Mustang kits are great. I try to pick them up when I can. The Indy car is my favorite. I like those seat decals, I'll have to see if I can find them. I'm sure they can be made. Thanks for sharing.
They are cool. The decals that I shown were printed by another modeler and were not available commercially. I’m not sure if anyone is doing them but they seam easy to do.
Nice looking build, I have always loved the Indy pace cars, at that time it was a big deal to be selected as the official pace car, great looking kit, thanks for sharing!
@@TheMuscleCarModeler very few disappointments compared to other companies I just wish they would ask model builders what type of kits they would like to build
Hey Raoul. I have all the Monogram Fox Mustangs and two of the Pacecars and three of the 79 Cobra. All have the open spoiler.I have built several of these an love it as well as the MPC kits.
This looks like a model that is fairly easy to assemble and comes out nicely. I remember it as a "Cafe Racer" kit as well, and did anyone, including the aftermarket people, ever do an early stock notchback Fox body (1979-82)?
Monogram did release a 1/32 1979 notchback kit. I had an 83 GL 5.0 notchbac, so I bought several of those. But I've never seen one in 1/25 other than the 1990 one.
love these cars Raoul. Great job on your kit. These are getting harder and harder to find at a good price. Cant beat $12! I think I paid 45-55 for the last one I found on eBay. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks. They are nice cars. I think the fox body Mustangs are cool cars. My first one was about $40 shipped but don’t remember. When I saw this one at $12 and checked the box contents and saw the chrome was good, glass was good, decals looked good and nothing looked started. I bought it. As I mentioned, I fully inventoried the kit and a few small parts were missing but nothing major.
i bought that kit when they came out and i was very lucky to find the real color from the dealership touch up spray paint at that time....pewter silver if i remmber
I have one of those pick it up for around $15.00 a couple of years ago. It didn’t have decals so I ordered some, and the guy I bought them from sent me two sets. So I’m ready to go with it. Your build looks really nice. Thanks for sharing.
I have the yellow cafe racer kit from 1981 and the spoiler is molded closed. Inside the roof of the body there are part numbers for silver(2250-0610),red(2260-0610), and yellow(2276-0610). While I don't have the pace car kit, I'd have to guess the open mold was an early release.
I have seen many with the spoiler molded closed. Which is actually correct for the car. All the kits have the same box and dates. This is just the first one I have had in my hands. I can find pics of a few on eBay and most are molded in.
My older build was an unbuilt kit that I bought on eBay. It was not built and I’m the only one that built it. I did have to get the wheels rechromed at the time.
Nice, i had possession of an 80 cobra foe a short time which shared features with the 79 pace car. One of the best looking foxbodies in my opinion.
I think they are cool!

I have always liked these Monogram and Revell kits that came out during this time. They built well, nice detail without having way too many parts.
Really cool build and info on the kit. Thanks for showing it👍
You bet! Thanks!

Hey Raoul. I have all the Monogram Fox Mustangs and two of the Pacecars and three of the 79 Cobra. All have the open spoiler.I have built several of these an love it as well as the MPC kits.
Very cool. For early Fox body Mustangs, I have only had these two Pace Cars and two 84 Mustang Convertibles. Plus, one MPC SVO kit.
This looks like a model that is fairly easy to assemble and comes out nicely. I remember it as a "Cafe Racer" kit as well, and did anyone, including the aftermarket people, ever do an early stock notchback Fox body (1979-82)?
I’m not familiar with anyone doing an early notchback.

I don't know about the 1/32 offerings. I do have a resin 1990 version. No plans to build it.
I have the MPC pace car. I do like the Monogram kit! Nice car you got there!
Very nice!

Thanks 👍
EXCRUCIATINGLY AWESOME YO!
Thanks!
Cool kit. I'm currently building the MPC 20th Anniversary kit, and the spoiler is not open. looking forward to seeing your finished product.👍
Very cool. I built a 20th anniversary convertible from the Revell kit.
That is what I believe happened. The real car has the indentations but they are not open.
Plus I always remember that they didn't have a skill level numbers on there either it was difficult or hard are easy.
Skill levels is a more recent thing and a bit confusing.
thanks for the very interesting video !!
Glad you liked it!
Built a few of these way back
Very cool!
nice Stang the one you built is kewl as well 😁🤩ps have you thought about doing the tail lights in clear/red🤔
The tail lights are molded clear from Monogram. I did paint them Testor’s Stop Light red metallic which is a transparent red.
I have the same kit an my spoiler on the back is has it molded open on the back of the trunk of the mustang and my kit is from 1979 /kit number 2250
I have seen many with the spoiler molded closed. Which is actually correct for the car. All the kits have the same box and dates. This is just the first one I have had in my hands. I can find pics of a few on eBay and most are molded in.
From ur old build looks like someone flid in the spoiler on the back
My older build was an unbuilt kit that I bought on eBay. It was not built and I’m the only one that built it. I did have to get the wheels rechromed at the time.
