  • Heckler & Koch Tutorial: LEM Trigger Explained.
    Variants with HK's enhanced double action only Law Enforcement Modification* (LEM) trigger have no external decocking controls. The HK Law Enforcement Modification (LEM) trigger system combines the advantages of a cocked striker component (constant level of trigger pull from first to last round fired) with a double-action hammer system. Using such an enhanced trigger system consolidates ease of use and safety into a convenient, innovative trigger operation-one that reduces the chance of unintended firing. And in case of an ammunition-related failure to fire, all that is needed is an additional second or third squeeze of the trigger without the need of first pulling the slide back to re-cock the pistol. The enhanced LEM trigger system combines the reliability of a double action revolver trigger with the crisp trigger of a single action pistol.

    I LOVE LEM triggers.... wonderful invention. I am more accurate at shooting my HKs with LEM triggers than I am with my 1911's (SA). Actually, I shoot the most accurate with my LEM over every handgun I have ever shot.
    Not only that, but I feel its the safest way to carry a handgun.

    torn between getting a usp expert or a p30ls. personally I like 1911s cuz of their single action and typically lighter triggers. the thumb safety doesn't bother me. Did HK have a contest to see who could run through explaining the LEM trigger the fastest and most confusing and you won? Your thumb was blocking the view of the hammer when you pressed the trigger in what I will call single action. While you did explain it I wanted to see for myself what it actually did at that time. Was a 2 minute video too expensive? I guess I'm not completely understanding how the hammer is pre-cocked when you first work the slide and load the initial round but then you say the hammer is cocked when you press the trigger the first time. No one is going to have stock on anything where I can touch and and be shown how it works so before I lay out cash that would equal roughly 1-2/3 Glocks, who by the way do a very good job explaining their trigger and safety system, I'd really like to know what I am getting.

      It's just an auto decocker.. I'd rather have a manual decocker and keep with a 100% predictable trigger.. I'm sure it's fine, but I don't like a trigger that could change on me at any shot............ at least DA/SA is only different on that first shot. Striker fire is king anyway.

      I think the idea is that if you don't allow a full trigger reset then it's lighter and basically SA, but once you allow a full reset (finger off the trigger) it goes back into DA mode... I think.

    • @cncmillman
      @cncmillman 3 роки тому +4

      The difference is the hammer spring is cocked but the hammer itself is not. So the initial DA pull is lighter than other guns that have to compress hammer spring.

    • @Makingnewnamesisdumb
      @Makingnewnamesisdumb 2 роки тому

      @Johnathan Celso I understand how it works, I just don't really understand why it is a meaningful improvement over using either a da/sa or a sa. Da/sa is safe and a lot of people like the long first trigger pull as kind of a safety feature, and the following trigger is going to be as good or maybe even better than lem. Carrying cocked and locked is safe and also has that good trigger every time. How important of a development is this for the market really? Was someone out there underserved until now?

    • @dexm2010
      @dexm2010 2 роки тому +2

      @@Makingnewnamesisdumb With this, you're getting a long but reasonably light first pull, whereas with a DA/SA gun, the initial pull is normally much heavier, although the *length of pull* is basically the same.
      Whether or not the LEM is as good (or better) than DA/SA or "Cocked and Locked" for the same gun is debatable.

  • @nobodysreview6137
    @nobodysreview6137 4 роки тому +1

    I still prefer double to single, gives you more control. Seems silly to have the hammer spring compressed 24/7. Also, you can cock the hammer back to start in single action if you want but the heavy double action is fine if you know how to shoot and you can de cock your gun when ever you want. LEM seems like something noobs would like. And its def not as safe as a heavy pull but still nice you can put your thumb over the hammer when reholstering. When i shoot at the range i always pull the heavy double action first shoot and acurracy is just as good and when the gun goes into single action its like you cant miss and really fun, i like the transition.

    • @collapsedsilence
      @collapsedsilence 4 роки тому +1

      "LEM seems like something noobs would like" and your comment reads like something a noob wrote. There's a reason most of us shooting HKs in USPSA have switched over to LEM. You can't pre-cock a hammer before a competition event, and the 10lb trigger double action is a huge detriment to speed and accuracy when fractions of a second are make or break times. Experienced shooters are comfortable switching over to a system that relies on them understanding the trigger break and reset points, quick enough on follow up shots to take advantage of that LEM reset point, as well as have confidence in their draw and aim that having a very light first trigger pull is a benefit, not a detriment.

    • @nobodysreview6137
      @nobodysreview6137 4 роки тому

      @@collapsedsilence I'm not a noob but not a competitive shooter, im glad you posted though, i didnt know people like the LEM trigger. What i said was i like the regular set up since the springs arnt under tention year after year in a carry or home protection set up. Maybe i'll try the LEM trigger set up some time. I really jusy meant i like the regular set up, i also shoot revolvers and shoot them in double action like how you would use them in self defense so the double action pull is fine. I do understand where your coming from, Competitive shooting is a different situation but at the same time it isnt. Of all the guns ive shot i prefer the double to singe action no safty set up the best, seems the most practicle for if you have to draw your gun and point it with yoir finger on the trigger like a revolver, no accidental shooting and i like the decocker on a Sig, makes it feel like a Sig. I didnt realize the LEM was used a lot in competitive shooting though, i figured it was for dumb cops that cant shoot so i'll search for some videos on it.

    • @collapsedsilence
      @collapsedsilence 4 роки тому

      @@nobodysreview6137 I would absolutely suggest *most* shooters to go with a V3 type DA/SA triggers, you're spot on. I'd also agree with you that to a novice just reading about it, the idea of a crazy light trigger just sounds better. But it isn't, and the reality is there's a fine line where the extremely light trigger weight double action and short reset on the LEM is beneficial.
      It's pretty much exclusively competition shooters, shooters trained to fire off the reset on follow up shots (meaning holding the trigger for follow up, align your sights again, and when ready for a follow up shot slowly release trigger finger until reset and then pull) and law enforcement where they would always want a double-action trigger pull so every time they draw and fire the gun reacts EXACTLY the same so there's no thinking, prepping or planning during a high stress situation. That last situation is why it became the Law Enforcement Model (LEM) name.

    I'm a member of the LEM Master Race, but I don't feel this cat communicated, or exhibited, how the LEM triggers actually work. He failed to display how the LEM trigger works prior to racking the slide, versus the actual use case of racking a round into the chamber for carry or duty purposes. If you're on the fence about a LEM model, pull the trigger. It is not a DAO pistol! All hammer fired weapons should mirror HKs LEM system and I'm not even and HK guy. I'd love an M9A3 G model, but even then, there is zero advantage of having a decocker only lever with that awful 12 pound double action pull at the start. Go LEM.

    • @Mockturtlesoup1
      @Mockturtlesoup1 2 роки тому +1

      Yeah, I agree that he didn't communicate this clearly. His thumb was also blocking the hammer.
      Also, a 92G would be 🔥 with an LEM trigger. In fact, like you said, they can finally get rid of that God awful slide-mounted safety/de-cocker that literally no one likes.
      I also want one of those new Performance models(I think they're called? The chrome looking ones with the frame mounted safety and the beavertail?) as well. In fact, if they made those with a long upswept 1911 style beavertail I wpuld probably have one already.

But I want to know... is there no way of decocking the damn thing? You can't even reliably reach over the top for pinch/ lower on the hammer. I don't always need a handgun 'ready to go. LEM hammer can be both in bobbed and spurred variant (spurred variant is rare in US, common in Europe). LEM is compatible with P30S and P30LS with manual safety and levers stay in place and still works. Overtravel screw can be added to any HK trigger - 10 min job for HK armourer. I'm sure HK USA has those screws laying around. Some people were successful in modifying USP match trigger tongue to fit into USP Compact, P2000 and P30 as well.
      But you had good eye - dynamic shooting scenes (at least some of them) show SA/DA variant in use.
      I shoot P30L with V4.1 LEM in competition and I love this setup. Can not fit overtravel stop to mine as IPSC Production and IDPA SSP rules prohibit this.

      H&K was way ahead of it time when it comes to semi-auto pistol design and engineering.
      I’n this video, he demonstrates the much newer P-Series design. However, the LEM was originally designed for the USP model, which for my money, is still the Heavyweight Champion of the world among all other polymer framed semi-auto pistol designs over the past quarter century.

      I know many who do not care for it. I like it, especially the V4.1 CH.

      John Wick Supposed to be some version of LEM that has shorter initial trigger travel. Then you have the Todd Green Special, where you put in the heavy trigger return spring to lite LEM, which gives a "kick" to the trigger reset. Would recommend checking HKPro for more details with various options.

    People like LEM only if and if only(Law school logic if you don't get it) when they cannot find or cannot afford a SA/DA+Decoker+external safety HK😂
    Because grapes are too sour😂

    While this video contains important info., the presenter, a competitive shooter and representative of the H&K co. just speaks too fast. He does the same in all his H&K videos.
    He offers us much insight. but it could have been better presented.

    Why does this guy feel like he has to talk like the Micro Machines guy? Jesus, maybe choose someone for a tutorial that talks at a normal speed rather than someone who is on speed. 😂. I had to watch the video like 4 times because of this tweeker. 🤦‍♂️
