If they found a way to raise the Titanic, I think that Ryan would have a crack at repairing it. I think that a lot of commenters miss the point of this series: it's not a matter of what would normally be sensible to do - or what one would get back if selling the car - it's about what it is possible to do, even when replacement panels are not available.
You're dead right George about the commenters. There are a load more already. That is the only thing that annoys me about this wonderful channel, maybe I should stop reading them. There are still people saying car should be dipped and whose car is it and is it going to be worth it etc. etc. Totally missing the point. Anyway, just got to say, Ryan, Steve and the company get my vote as the best all round fabricators and restorers on UA-cam. Totally inspiring work.
Exactly as the others have posted. The question is not 'should I?' but 'could I' and Ryan and Steve certainly can. As a viewer it's none of my business whether it's an economical proposition to make a repair of what appears to be a basket case, but whether I'm prepared to pay, and the team are prepared to do it. (Unless it's my car, of course.)
The old Datsuns were already rusting in the new car catalogue. You can see what happened after delivery to the customer on your vehicle. You open a job and get the next one straight away. Actually, it should have been disposed of before the work began, but you have already renewed too much for that. When you finally finish it, it will be like a new car again. But until then you still have a long way to go. You're professional enough to get this job done perfectly. Keep it up. Because if there's one master over the grate, it's you.
Firstly i just want to say that this is my fave channel on YT. The fact that Ryan has a full time job and yet still produces quality videos on a regular basis is amazing. Ryan, the Datsun will be worth it. You will be so proud of it once its complete. Get us some disaster datsun merch
I am just blown away how he endlessly cuts out great sections that are too poor to use as templates and yet he can still fabricate complete new sections that fit with precision after fettling. Magic with allot of skill.
There is a reason why cars of the 1960s and 70s are disappearing. It's because of their multilayered construction that made them strong light and reduced resilience to rust compartment rust. What an effort. You will have made a new body at least the lower 1/3rd!! Very impressive
That looks shocking! 😳 I gave my lovely Datsun 260 away about 30 years ago. Just saw an immaculate one for sale at £30K 😕 You'll have a spanking 2+2 with all the amount of work you've put in 😘
Big up respect to Ryan and Steve @ Yorkshire car restoration, you both just keep ploughing on no matter what a car throws at you and bounce back you give everyone the enthusiasm to muck in and repair their cars. Keep going, you're making great content. Also, many great contacts, the 260z, couldn't be in better hands it will be stunning, and a credit to YCR ❤
So feeling your pain and frustration and willing you all the way your a credit to YCR and your inspiring me to get on with the rot on my XKR. A hearty thanks for posting all this and keep going. Des in Scotland
Hello 👋 Ryan I have to say you and your dad are my heroes..I love this channel ❤️ and I love you all very much just like family. I'm very proud of you all..I'm very proud of you Ryan because I know you are young and you have skills that far surpass your age I know of people been in the business for several years and they don't compare to you buddy you are tops..I can't wait for the BMW tomorrow 😉 I will be watching and commenting my friend..
Its the gift that just keeps on giving Ryan. Keep hammering away at it lad, anyone else would have weighed it in by now. You have the skill to rebuild it!!!! Loving it!! Warm regards as always from Ireland
I admire the incredible body panel restoration that Ryan accomplishes on a daily basis of cars that I would have thought belonged on the scrap heap, but what I find even more amazing is the obvious love the owners must have for their cars to fund these projects.
Just discovered you, and subscribed, I love the content. I cut my teeth on rusty fords and Vauxhalls in the 70’s and 80’s, so the rear of that Datsun brought back some iron oxide induced tears, the disdain when I cut out my first panels, and where I was going to go from there.😱
I wish you all the luck you need. My goodness you are completely right AGAIN: this Datsun has been made into a kit car, sooooo much (actualy: ONLY) filler as some sort of structural part. It seems like you have to construct and weld in a roll cage to get some structural integrity in this ca.. hump of metal that vaguely reassembles a car-shape. I reckon if you have finished this project you have actually build a totally new car. But it will be a beauty! (and some very nice content as well) Thank you!
At 5min, with the removal of what was left of the original rear panel, what was exposed was perfectly counterpointed by the music. I would have run away, far away, as well.
My favourite music right from the start 😃I know it looks bad but, on the plus side, the rubber exhaust hanger looks in good condition!. Thanks for another great video.
While you make comments about this "disaster", I get the feeling you seriously enjoy your work. It shows along with the funny humor you interject into the video as well. Keep up the great work and videos. I enjoy watching and learning...
Hi Ryan, Co and all of your subscribers, if like me, you have had an emotional attachment to a car in the past and just wish you could find someone with the expertise to carry out the work needed to fix and return to the road, it would have to have been you at YCR. Mine was a VW Golf Mk2 GTI, i found out after some years of ownership that the passenger side quarter panel had been damaged and badly repaired. At the time I could not find anyone worthy of taking on this repair and sold the car on (2008) The car has never been on the road since and I’ve tried to find it with the idea of buying it back, but with no luck. Are these cars in this condition worth repairing, to some, yes they are. My long lost GTI is a thing of dreams. I’ve said it before YCR is the best channel on UA-cam and I’ve just said it again. Your subscribers all root for you, well done and please Keep theses videos coming PS super editing too 👍🏻
Just would like to say, thank you. The vids are great entertainment, but also you're restoring/preserving cars that could easily be scrapped by less-caring individuals. So good
Ryan, you must have the patience of a saint. This is soul destroying work. You have to put this down to experience as part of the Learning process. You have to take a break of this thing and go back to it refreshed. Nice and easy does it. This is probably gonna take years to get finished. Later 👍
You've got this (literally), Ryan and despite the turmoil, pain and frustration, you have proven your cojonnes are big enough to grab that relic by the throat and wring out all the rust! Respect an admiration for you, but being a Civil Engineer, I thought that you may have found a few spots to apply some construction grout! I am sure that this, Matt's Beemer and the new Mazda collywobble, wil ensure your nightmares will move with the tide.
I remember my grandad in laws old V reg Toyota Carina mk1. What a beautiful car - kept it going best I could until we were told by the garage - ‘it’s a scrapper- not worth doing’ …if only you were about back then. Great to watch and learn - masters of your trade for sure.
This back section is always rusted out. The trunk opening piece on top especially. The lower valance is either beat up beyond repair, or rusted out. Honestly this is the one part of the car you were supposed to replace anyway.
Who ever sold the filler to the guy who filled that Datsun has made a killing on filler sales😂😂 keep going its a merit to your work and patients excellent
Always look forward to a disaster datsun installment....maybe they should start a drinking game where you take a swig every time you hear "disaster"...lol
Ryan, I'm a new subscriber; genuine newbie question! I've seen other channels, where cars get dipped in a big tank, to get rid of all the crap. Is this something that you would do? Guessing with the Datsun, not much metal would come back out from a dip! Cheers, Chris.
I respect the work you guys are doing, the end of this is not that far away. But my question seriously is, is it worth it? If this was to go for sale in the end, im sure a potential buyer would be more interested in a car that has been preserved and has low milage rather than in one that has had all of its structually important parts replaced or welded. If its your dream car and your keeping it to yourself then go for it and nice job. But if this car goes for sale someday, im not sure these videos will help. Greetings from Eastern Europe and I didnt mean to be offensive (sorry if it sounded so, English isnt my first language). Really respect the work you do and love this channel.
I always have trouble understanding why people don't just scrap a car in this condition. If it was a Ferrari GTO, the work would be worth it. But there are many Zs around in much better condition than this, and the 2+2 was never desirable anyway. Great work nonetheless, I just don't understand how the owner feels it is worthwhile to do.
You should keep all the Swiss cheese parts, and mail them back to Nissan in a box marked "Not Suitable for Export". And while you're at it, collect all the bog, crush it, and distribute it like a corpse's ashes among the workshops of the local shifty motor dealers in the area...
When do you reach the “give-up” point where there is no more metal to weld on to? This car must be close to the point of no return, not to mention the cost involved. I admire your skill and perseverance.
Good judgement of restoring cars is also a skill, knowing when a car is too far gone, uneconomical to repair or just for scrap. Without knowing the economics it is difficult to pass judgement. Sometimes it is best, as I have found in the past, to find another body shell to repair before getting too deep.
I spent years welding up rusty shit in the UK ..now I would say much better find something from somewhere they don't put salt on roads and start with that.....looked at 84 Capri earlier this year in Spain and impecible underneath..
It just gets worse ! But it will be a transformation when complete by you skilled guys :) Can I ask a favour ? Can we have some different music on the next one ! 😂 why don’t we runaway needs to runaway now 😂😂

They were known for being rot boxes back in the day. I don't know why anyone would want to renovate one. There are plenty of other classics which would not be as rotten and be worth more when completed.
It’s what expected of a 70’s Datsun , it will need inner and outer quarter panels as well , watch the Japanese videos where they restore Z cars , they only keep the floor and chassis 😂
This rust bucket should have been chemical dipped before you started, it's a low value car to start with, spending a kings ransom on cutting out that amount of rust really doesn't make sense, would have been a better solution to import a rundown lhd southern USA shell
That 260Z is sooooo bad. Really should have gone for scrap! Now you're about 3/4 around it, might as well finish though. Is it a customers car or is it one of yours?
If they found a way to raise the Titanic, I think that Ryan would have a crack at repairing it. dumb question, and probably asked in an earlier video. Why did you not have the body acid dipped to remove the paint and filler?
It will look sensational when done. But is such a thing economically viable? Or just a pure love to get it back on the road.
ah we are getting there with this disasterousness datsun will look brilliant when finished..keep it up ryan

Anyone know what music and by who around 5 mins in ??
I would also like to know the background music. Anyone know ?

New to your channel....Question.....why not dip the whole car first.....then you can see clearly whats what?
The holy 240Z lol
😂you are the Master of Disaster 😜

I cannot believe one car could have so much filler and have looked relatively close to the shape of the original vehicle.

I Imagine there would have been nothing left and the body would have fallen in half if they dipped it straight away.
great idea about a US shell
Yeah but then we would have nothing to watch 😂
That’s what Iv been saying from the start
Not that low value, basically it's good content with a reward at the end..bit like shagging😂
That 260Z is sooooo bad. Really should have gone for scrap! Now you're about 3/4 around it, might as well finish though. Is it a customers car or is it one of yours?
well think of it this way , by the time you replace all the rusted metal you'll have a new old car.
Would it not have been a good idea to get the shell dipped or media blasted 1st so you have a clean rust free shell to weld to?
So much would have simply vanished that there'd be nothing to use as templates for replacement parts.
What a heap of rust.
Better to strip & acid dip
The ‘Trigger's New Broom’ of cars.
Its a money pit cheaper to sell it for spares.
Never seen such an abomination 😂
what a , a .....disaster !
