    Take care Brad. I really appreciate your common sense and honest approach and that you 'date' your videos really adds value to me, being a new beekeeper. Thank you!

    I heard the geese... they are headed my way... oh no... long pants season is coming....🤣😂😛🥸 I got Saskatraz 3 yrs ago and I really like them.... good winter survival, unreal brood patterns and I had one hive of them look better than Steppler's ... lol mind you just one out of 20🤣🤣😂I also have Carnies... too much propolis, however they also survive in my winters.

      This is the time of year that helps a person make that assessment. Thanks for watching!

    Thanks for sharing, makes me think twice about getting a first hive! Would be nice if you could rest during the winter, but if I know you, you'll be just as busy then. Remember, not only is Bob your uncle, but also "All work and no play makes Johnny a Dull Boy" Cheers!

      Very true! This winter is actually shaping up to be very busy as well. Thanks for watching!

    I agree!! Honey extraction is my least favorite task of the year but like you saiad itnpays the bills. If i were starting over i would concentrate on selling nucs and queens. I thought the demand would be down by now, but nucs still seem to be in popular demand. I have the same feelings about being overloaddd and exhausted but I finished extracting this week. Now cleanup, ugh😂 maybe getting too old for this (73). Thanks for the videos.

      I rarely talk to a beekeeper who likes the honey part the most. We do it for the bees.

    Not a bad video Brad. Its good to show the struggles. Fall feeding isnt something ive spent alot of mental energy on. In the past, i hadnt needed to. But this year ive got about 25% or more on singles so i probably better figurre it out.

      Thanks, Phil! Feeding is one of my least favorite jobs, not only because it's expensive. Thanks for watching!

    I thought you treated with OA and how come you don't like plastic frames? I have a Honda easy spin on a wood splitter, a half turn and it starts even if it sets for a few months, just use no ethanol gas and a stabilizer.

    • @ThatBeeMan
      @ThatBeeMan  Рік тому +2

      I plan to use OAV in October as usual.
      Plastic frames, ok, here we go: they warp a lot in both directions, way more than plastic foundation in a wood frame. I find they are poorly waxed from the manufacturer. The don't go through my uncapper properly. If I break an ear, it's garbage vs. a wood frame, I pop out the plastic foundation and pop it into a new frame, retaining both the comb and the foundation (less plastic in the landfill) When they ARE garbage, I can burn wooden frames with impunity, environmentally speaking.

    We used a lot of Carpathians a couple years ago here in Ontario. They were all garbage. Almost every beekeeper I've spoke with who used them has had the same experience.

    Exhausted... I know how that feels... I had to harvest and treat last week, cull and feed all 30 remaining hives (lost 4 to culling queenless ones) this weekend. I still have to buy 14-ish 20KG sugar bags to make the second round of feed, make 15 winter top insulation boxes and foamy beanies, extract all the honey and make sure the bees rob em clean before storage and a ton of little stuff... I feel like I'm being pulled on 5 different directions.
    Thank you for the breakdown of your pump setup :)

    Ha Brab I enjoy every video u do. I am so sorry u are so tired. I hope u can get some rest. Here the bee season is over as well we are in a dearth, I am feeding been doing so since june giving them patties as well we have hive bettles so I have to be very careful how much I give them. the bettles are a real pain, do u put your hives in a shed for the winter. I know Ian does but I cant remember if u do or not. Do u find the apivar strips do well for u. do u treat with oav in the middle of winter. again do not be sorry for the video they are good u have a lot to take care of and I do not no how u do it by your self, I have 50 and it is hard for me to keep up I hope u get some rest God Bless You and your wonderful wife. Have a Blessed week.

      Thanks, Frances! I do winter my bees indoors, very similarly to Ian. Apivar has always done well for me but I will also use a round of OAV in October to mop up. I am a firm believer in rotating treatments.
