so thankful for your consistency with these videos. as a norcal guy who loves the sierras and fishing , your videos gives me a mix of nostalgia of places i have been to and a bucketlist for places to go to . love it, man . hope you do this forever!
Glad you enjoy them. Fill that bucket list and get out there and attack! Especially in the Eastern Sierra, you could fish multiple places in a few days if you have the energy and drive to do it. Thank you for the kind words. I hope I can do this forever too!
That spot is usually only good for me when the flow is optimal for jig fishing and on this day, it was right! I usually do good taking apart larger, open sections of stream with a little white water. In the end, there are techniques for attacking everything in a river!
If I can get to the point where I can scrape by full time fishing/hiking between You Tube ad revenue and Patreon subscriptions I'm ready for some new challenges!
Hello Amani, great day on the water, those were some nice fish, do you really need those arms, I like the Pirate Amani Look😂😂😂, thanks for another awesome adventure - except for the Bear Poop shots LOL👊🎣👍
Well done. Ya idk what the deal is with the flow rn. Stampede is full but Boca is down. Filling them up maybe? They stocked tons of Lahontans in town too & they take over holes then starve & you find their carcasses floating around
That rainbow you caught had beautiful colors. The bears up in mammoth at Lake George and Lake Mary like to stroll along the shoreline and if you have fish on a stringer....it's bye bye fish.
Yeah, that's what that bear was doing in the bear at lake George video on my wildlife encounters playlist. It was scaring people away and then taking their food and fish. I think someone commented that the bear in the video was eventually moved and ultimately was killed. cabins and campgrounds right there made for a bad situation for a bear to rely on humans for food. Wasn't the bear's fault, it just had to pay unfortunately.
Interesting. Apples on the ground under a tree are a goldmine for a bear! They gorge themselves on those red berries along the river when they are abundant. It's an "all you can eat" situation!
Possibly different strains of rainbow trout that crossbreed over time causing the manifestation of beautiful genetic characteristics over multiple generations. That's an extreme wild guess of course!
If I had it, I'd probably use it but I walked down there thinking I'd be casting my jig across a wide flowing river based on what I saw fishing upstream of the dam the day before. I guess figuring it out with what I had was easier than hiking back up to my car and assembling my fly rod! I went with easy!
Could you tell me good spots to fish on the truckee? I haven’t caught any fish in that river yet and really want to. Like where were you in this video. Also do you know if prosser is any good right now?
I recommend that you just look at a map to see where the river is close to a road and go there. I have caught fish in every stretch of river from off the 89 near Tahoe all the way into Nevada east of the Derby Dam. I rarely fish one spot. Typically, I walk large stretches of river until I get a good fish so my entry point isn't that important. . There are good stretches of river to fish everywhere. Just be sure you are clear on the regulations (page 55 in the FW regulation guide). Generally, it's artificial/barbless/zero bag limit right now but there is also the fly fishing only section to be mindful of between trout creek and prosser creek pour in. I have a lot of Truckee River clips on my river fishing playlist. Good luck.
Beautiful rainbow Amani! Do you carry bear spray with you? It seems to me that the sound of the river would drown out the sound of a bear or yourself as you walk around the area.
I don't carry bear spray. I keep my head on a swivel and make noise. The heavy brush is a little sketchy though. Easily could be a face to face situation. I saw at least 5 piles of crap on this outing. There is also a lot of bear crap in the Farad area. I don't know if it's one bear or a couple of different bears but they are certainly down in the area. I'm almost surprised I haven't run into one yet in the early morning hours. I've seen multiple piles of really fresh bear crap before and that almost made me expect an encounter.
Right! It's not like this was my experience with this sort of thing. I think I can call it a lack of self control! I took an oath! We'll just have to see how long that lasts.
It is but it's cold now. Snakes are why I don't like fishing rivers like this when it's hot. I have a clip on my variety playlist where I'm moving a rattler off the trail upstream with my net handle on the 4th of July. Yes, snake country!
I've had some tough days out there but if I'm willing to hike far enough, break through enough brush, and make enough casts I can usually manage at least one nice fish. Of course, I'll take those days where I get a good one in the first half hour as well.
@@jamesondawe2926 It's somewhere in between the tahoe pyramid trail parking lot on quilici ranch road and the train bridge near canyon twenty two on google maps. That entire section is usually really good just takes a lot of walking to find them.
I would be astonished if they came after me for that. I'd make way more money on the views for videos showing the ridiculous turn of events as a heavy handed federal government drops a hammer on a dude walking 20 yards along the tracks before he dips down to the river to fish than I would have to pay in fines. Hell, there are thousands of homeless people living near railroad tracks on federal land and stumbling around on them all over California! I'd actually make some money on my channel if a federal prosecutor actually decided they had to go after me for something stupid like that. The main trail down to the river crosses the tracks and they just cleared the trail. No one would be surprised to see people who are fishing the river walking along the tracks for a bit as they go from spot to spot. Thanks for the sound advice and concern but I think I'll be fine.
I like watching your videos and I’d like to make a suggestion if I may be so bold; and that is to say I think you should invest in a lapel mic. It’s a bit off putting to hear you yelling into the camera. Keep it up! Great stuff!
Right on. I started out with one but it was a nightmare with my camera. With my camera you have to turn the camera on before you can hit record when using the external mic or it doesn't record audio. There is already a multi-second delay between when I hit the record button to when the recording actually starts. When I have to wait several seconds for the camera to turn on it's an eternity. I lost audio on some quality fish because I forgot to turn the camera on in that stressful moment when I hook a fish or when I see I'm getting a bite. Once fishing Tahoe, my rod was doubled over and by the time I got the camera turned on, hit record, and made it over to my rod the fish was gone. Done with that. Right now it is what it is. If I reach a point where I don't have to work full time and Have a big enough budget between my Patreon and You Tube I might look into other cameras. Currently, I don't have the money for a new camera or the energy to learn to use it. I guess the volume control has to be it for now.
I almost always fish rivers alone. Just get to where there is river and start fishing. I have caught fish in nearly every section from off the 89 down into Nevada way out east of Sparks in the Derby dam area. Don't worry about going to " a good spot". The whole river is good! just get down to it and start casting!
Great job, Amani. Loved this video.
Thanks. I was loving that last trout.

good deal! that was a pretty rainbow! classy!
Yeah, that last one was a real treat.
The spot at 8:50 - 9:00 was a good one, no wonder you got back to back fish..
Deep water holds fish..
That was a gem of a spot...
That spot is usually only good for me when the flow is optimal for jig fishing and on this day, it was right! I usually do good taking apart larger, open sections of stream with a little white water. In the end, there are techniques for attacking everything in a river!
Hey Amani, you should do the heritage trout challenge. 👍🏻🎣
If I can get to the point where I can scrape by full time fishing/hiking between You Tube ad revenue and Patreon subscriptions I'm ready for some new challenges!
I feel like you'd be able to smell that bear before you came up on it. LOL! Nice video Amani!
I just want to avoid the surprise point blank face to face!
Argh! Great video, matey! Your pirate is weak, so no bear wrestling!
My pirate is horrible! It sounds good in my head but when I try to execute the vocals it always stinks!
The Truckee is a real gem of a river. And I always 'pussy foot' up to the water. Especially when it is running clear. Great fish.
Yeah, in that really shallow area I couldn't even get close. Fish were detecting me from a distance and bolting. It all worked out.
Anytime you see railroad tracks near a river... it's always good. Just is. Nice video Amani! 👈
That seems to be the case!
Hello Amani, great day on the water, those were some nice fish, do you really need those arms, I like the Pirate Amani Look😂😂😂, thanks for another awesome adventure - except for the Bear Poop shots LOL👊🎣👍
I need at least one arm! It always sounds good in my head but my execution of the pirate impression is always awful!
Nice catches! Were you fishing on the CA or the NV side of the Truckee?
2 Miles east of Farad?
I was in CA not too far upstream from the State Line. I'm curious to see what is going on near the state line. Feels like I should go investigate!
Well done. Ya idk what the deal is with the flow rn. Stampede is full but Boca is down. Filling them up maybe? They stocked tons of Lahontans in town too & they take over holes then starve & you find their carcasses floating around
They are diverting for hydropower. The water returns downstream a few miles.
Yeah, the canal starting at the dam was nice and full.

At 10:35 I got a midroll ad for Amtrak😂
PS 391 views but 10k likes??😮😂
Right on.
Holy moly nice trout Amani
Yeah, I was just hoping to get at least one. That last fish came when I was just taking a quick look at the flow upstream. Glad I walked up there!
Oh ya & the bears are alllll over down at Quilici Ranch Rd cuz a buncha ppl have apple trees down there
Interesting. Apples on the ground under a tree are a goldmine for a bear! They gorge themselves on those red berries along the river when they are abundant. It's an "all you can eat" situation!
I guess they have hidden hydroelectric plants in the river.
Yeah, they divert a lot of water for it in the canals too which is a drag when the river is really low.
Nice looking rainbow! I wonder if there are small species differences? Sometimes the fish is silvery while others are more brownish..spotty
Possibly different strains of rainbow trout that crossbreed over time causing the manifestation of beautiful genetic characteristics over multiple generations. That's an extreme wild guess of course!
Slow shallow water. I would use a fly rod. What do ya think Amani?
If I had it, I'd probably use it but I walked down there thinking I'd be casting my jig across a wide flowing river based on what I saw fishing upstream of the dam the day before. Leaving after a miss and coming back later is really hard. I know I should. But I never do.
Right! It's not like this was my experience with this sort of thing. I think I can call it a lack of self control! I took an oath! We'll just have to see how long that lasts.
Looks like snake country

The Truckee seldom disappoints.

I've done good in that same hole
Right on. I usually do better with jigs outside of the big deep holes but the flow was right on this day for an effective attack.
Where is it? I have been having a tuff time on the truckee for the past few days? Would love to fish there

#24👍🏻🎣👀
Right on. Fun times.
How was the brown you ate from last video.
It was good. I had it almost as soon as I got home. I prefer the rainbows but that fish was a fairly close second.
You should not show yourself walking on the tracks, you are trespassing on federal and railroad land. Thank you for the vids.

Hey Amani, big fan, I have never fished the Truckee but would love to in the next couple of weeks. Any chance I could fish with you there?
