Polymeters 3 vs 4 vs 5 vs 7

- Hello guys!
Do you remember the little 5 vs 7 vs 3 polymeters tutorial?
Here's the same poly but adding a kick in 4, as some of you asked :D
The 7 is actually a 14 if I want to relate to a same 16th notes subdivision.
If I played only the first note of each group of notes, this could also be seen as a 60 vs 140 vs 105 vs 84 polyrhythm (haha) happening in a very zoomed in (or a veeeery long) bar! But it's the same principle: it's about superposing different groups of notes using the same common subdivision.
Philip Maniez first told me about this fun poly.
Enjoy!
In the live from 2 days after this vid I explain how I'm working these kinds of rhythms!

I'd like to really thank you all for the new subscriptions, likes and comments, you really warmed my heart!
I decided to give it a try to monetizing my channel, but I'd like to know if you're ok with it. I'd really appreciate if you could answer this quick survey:

To anyone that would like the related DRUMS SHEET
An already-written sheet gives the answer. It's by trying to write it yourself that you will understand how things interlock together and that you'll make some concrete progress! Don't hesitate to DM me on instagram so I can check if you got it right.
But if you don't wanna bother, you can buy it straight away on my website:

Doing all this math is one thing, but making it groove this hard is another! So sick!
You'd be surprised how much polymeters naturally groove when you just play around with them for a bit.
I want you to have the best chance of supporting yourself and building a beautiful life. Monetize without guilt! You deserve it and your talent is inspiring!
0:32: what a great way to start a song - would totally hook the listener as it built
Definitely. This really deserves to be the backbone of a song
@@seasideman a backbone with scoliosis
This is humbling and serves as better inspiration and stronger motivation to continue improving than anything put out by people playing my instrument of choice, the electric bass. Thank you! Subscribed.
Thank you so much!
Fabulous! I love how you manage to have a playful, dance-like flow that rolls along underneath it all.
This is amazing! Sounds like an entire African percussion ensemble!
Yea you're right, it does actually.
Learned my first 3x4x5x7 poly last week and have been polishing it up, gonna try out these two next. Thank you for the breakdown, you are awesome!
It's so wiggly! I love it! You, my dear, are what they call an Absolute Unit. Thank you for being here and bringing it.
I'm not used to hearing toms as notes but this really helped me hear it.
Her toms are really musical
The notes are Ab, Db and Ab a octave higher
@@FrankRideausonore how did you come to that conclusion?
@@chrisscarfo8832 Take your guitar or piano and play it along, that is what I did. her drums are petty well tuned. The octave jump between tom 1 and 3 is very obvious, no?
@@FrankRideausonore I think it's Eb
That was awesome. I now feel the need to try programming polyrhythms on my computer. Sounds so good. Love your videos and your skills!
Crumbs I would like to know to do that... I don't think you can do it in Cubase.
ooof that last groove was surprisingly really natural and dancable. wow!
Just amazing! Great skills and superb feel to it. Also very goodsounding kit. What a lady!
I totally get Marco Minnemann vibes when I watch your drumming! Amazing amazing stuff!
Great job! I'm currently working on my 1 vs 2 polyrhythm.
You make it sound so clean and danceable despite how complex it is to play, really cool stuff
Hell yea monetize you're super talented just found the channel I love it keep it going!!
Oh I am excited! I just started drumming and you are such an inspiration!
I started drumming again because of her 🥁
I'm so glad!

That's next level limb separation! Amazing
I just hit the subscriber button... she played that better than I ever could. I bow out in shame..
I only discovered you last night, I was mesmerized by your skill. congratulations :)
obviously, I subscribed to your channel :) congratulations again
@@giuliobarbosky thanks a lot 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Just saw you on Drumeo!!!! Delighted to hear about your own UA-cam channel!!! I love your style!!! Subbed!!!!
The kick makes it an instant EDM track :D
This is illegal. I tried the 7-5-3 and broke my brain.
:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
Yea 'tis mind bending alright.
This is the best one yet
This is so amazing my friend your so inspiring I have been playing drums for six years your just so clear and clean
I've never played drums except for a hilariously incompetent week working at a highly sketchy music day camp back in high school, and I can't have a kit where I live right now, but this made me go out and buy a practice pad and a couple of sticks.
When I listen this smart patterns, it makes me wanna go to the studio and practice :X Awesome !! Keep on!
Wow. I can only imagine how many hours you’ve spent on odd meters. So cool!!
Sick stuff! super tight and really musical
The link wasnt working for me personally. But i support your decision. Im glad you have funding and ease of mind. Keep making content . Love your videos so much
Killed it on the ending
My brain is suffering and also getting satisfied at the same time 😂
Monetizing? I'm not exactly sure what that means but, so long as you are creating and discovering insane time signature groupings, it sounds like a great choice! I love that you are showing us these polymeters. And because you play so well, it's very easy to hear all of the grooves that accompany every beat.
Nice! Your drumming videos make my day! ❤️
Incredibly impressive work! Next you should try doing this while keeping eye contact with the camera. You know, for the challenge. Not for any other reason
I could but i prefer to focus on the music and not on the camera :)
@@CamilleBigeault Yeah I'm sorry -
that was kind of an inappropriate joke!
I really do love your playing, though. You have a very steady, balanced touch and of course a 64-core experimental AMD processor for a brain. I don't know how you can top this video, but I'm excited for whatever you do next!
@@Diesel_Budgie thanks a lot 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Lololol
I've been working on this for over a week, and it's going to take a lot more patience before I nail it down!
Undeniably a badass groove.
You are amazing Camille! I love all the polyrithmic development you are working with andvletvus know! Is Fantastic, a very big big hug and all my respect and admiration. Blessings to you!

!
This is madness! Love it!
U are extremely talented. Im not a drummer, but im definitely going to try this lesson out when programing percussion. Thank u!
This is going to take me at least a few weeks to learn, I always enjoy a good independence/coordination challenge
Jokes on you I already watched this video in the morning when you accidentally uploaded it!
😅😅 I let it like 2 min, you were very lucky hahaha
Yo👌 that’s dope! Great playing!
The mystical youtube algorithm showed me your channel just a few days ago, love your content so far very unique and groovy beats!
Also you totally earn to use ads and make some money from it
I really like to play 2-3-4-5 together, but this 7 is really a great idea. Thanks for sharing!
Super cool! This is what I going to practise tomorrow
my brain hurts trying to process the simultaneous beats. but am all too willing to suffer it again.
The quarter note is so heavily implied that I can hear it without you playing it. When the kick came in, I almost didn't notice. Now, flipping the hats and the kick really helps make it feel... funkier? I liked that variation the best.
The take out at the end :-D even that sounds very musical 😃
I don't play the drums, but I was proud I can tap 3 against 4. Well up untill Camille was in my recommended videos. Insanely cool. And not just a trick, really nice.
This is how I teach these polymeters. 3 x 5 x 8 = 120. In effect, the ostinato resolves (returns to the beginning) after 120 beats.
I then write the patterns into a 120-long grid. In this example, 40 x 3 beat, 24 x 5 beat and 15 x 8-beat patterns.
The three patterns can then be read as a simpler linear exercise, returning to the beginning after 120 beats.
This works for all polymeter ostinatos. For example, 3 x 2 x 4 = 24, so the ostinato resolves after 24 strokes. 8 x 3 beats, 12 x 2 beats and 6 x 4 beats.
I hope this helps anyone who may be confused by the concept of polymeters.
Amazing work 👏👏👏👏👏
my brain started hurting when you added the snare
I'm trying to come up with mental guitar chord progressions and riffs to your music, but you have some VERY complex stuff there! I'm exhausted trying to keep up! :D
Mind blowing.
Very thanks Camille.
Yeah, it's settled, you're perfect. AMAZING!
Groovy and tight!
Awesome groove
Thats CRAZY hahahahaha!!!! it hurts my head trying to hear any more than 2 polyrythms at once, haha
Absolute limb-brain synchronic mastery!
Monetize away. You're great!
Impressionant!
Before hearing it I thought the kick would be on the 1's only. That sounds like it would be a nightmare to work out. This sounds great and I won't even attempt it lol!
Suuupppeerrr! 😃 Keep it up! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
My brain is broken. Amazing 🔥🔥
Polymeter? I hardly know her.
But did Polly meet her?
cant beleive i never thought of this....

This is cool as hell.
T'es vraiment impressionnante ! Bravo.
This has given me some new material to work on. I'd love to see you break down some zappa music. Mo and Herb's vacation would be fun. The shet music is crazy.
That one actually has grove. That's incredible.
Superb!
Fantastic!
Wowowow! C'est beaucoup trop chaud pour être vrai ça ! En tout cas ça donne envie d'essayer pleins de nouveaux trucs, c'est très inspirant merci pour ça ! Et bravo pour la technique ! Je m'abonne 👍😎
Nice work Camille.
Miss Bigeault is my new favorite French drummer. I'm also a fan of her pretty eyes...so lovely. :)
This is amazing! Can you do a video explaining how you play these?
I'll be live today to explain, check the description ;) i hope you can attend!
complex yet very powerful.
So amazing!
"We could also choose to play..."
Me, a drummer: SHUT UP. just...SHUT. Sigh. Allright, show me...
Lolz
Wonderful and very musical
Please, continue to blow my mind
Totally amazing, I have no idea how you do that!
when the 4/4 kick came in... blew my mind
You deserve my sub
loved when that 4 "kicked" in...
Love this!
Amazing stuff Camille 😊 You are so talented...And sweet and Charming and beautiful...❤
The right hand seems like the hardest part to me. I might be able to do left and both feet but the fact that the right hand pattern has a rest in it would throw off my limb independence
Bummer I missed the live thing. Aside from saying this is some really exemplary execution, just wanted to put in my two cents about this kind of ideation.
Phasing the poly is another way to get a little more mileage out of a static repeating figure. The seven here is doing it's thing because the phasing is matching the number of the drums its being orchestrated with. But if you move to a number of drums where the phasing is out, you end up with a cycle within the seven. Granted, in this case I would interpret the seven as the prominent melody so better to keep it as is, but perhaps the five could be phased in a way that it cycles longer. I like moving this kind of two-note five phrase across three voices to make it stretch and do other things.
But again- these studies have a spectacular result. Awesome :)
incredible
You're so awesome!!!❤️👌🏼
Thx so much Camille, still can feel the warmth and moist of the blood at the tip of my nose days after watching u 1st time.
Et une fois remis de l'hémorragie, je comprends toujours pas. Mais tu es exceptionnelle.
fun fun fun! thank you
You are brilliant! I have a sneaking suspicion you grew up listening to Steve Gadd.
Mindblowing !!
This is awesome
