mavis did a concert in ulm germany her love and kindness and voice will never be forgotten I got to say thank you to mavis , love and peace to all we are all one. j Vincent Edwards
Thank you so much, I was lucky to see Mavis at Womad in New Zealand (once in a lifetime opportunity for me), when she was touring this album, I felt so blessed. I miss your Sisters and your beloved "Pop's",. Tis' an Honour and privilege Miss Staples. It was a spiritual pilgramge for me, I simply had no choice, I was completely compelled to go. I sang along to every song, and often cried like a baby. I loved that she also told us stories, And said, "I hope this lifts your spirit, and helps you for a while". God Bless you Mavis, you, your music, your strength, your family, and more means so much to me.❤️
The song was written by J. B. Lenoi. Here's a UA-cam link: ua-cam.com/video/gBO_bGHL3kQ/v-deo.html and another great song written by J.B. Lenoir, "Born Dead": ua-cam.com/video/wI_5kbOkTy0/v-deo.html

The first time I heard the Staple Singers was early 70's, it was Respect Yourself, at a bar in Chicago. That did it. I fell in love with them.
Heard this the other day on The BB King satellite radio station and fell in love with it immediately. Must have the whole recording!
Incredible, beautiful Mavis without compromise, sinks the soul's roots in the muddy waters of the Mississippi ...
with gratitude
Always loved Mavis' soulful voice. It just gets better with age.
Barely coming around to give this album a listen. I got chills!
CHILLS I tell you.

At 1:56, when that groove kicks in, you better hold onto something!
Wow!
Ho vissuto 13 anni in America e ho sempre sentito dire Las Vegas. Certo che sai proprio tutto.
Классно шикарно супер!!!
Jesus, there's lots of versions of this song (a lot of them with Ry Cooder). But the one that gives me chills is J.B. Lenoir's.

whats a "washer terrier" (?)
She's saying Wash-a-teria, a place to wash clothes, laundromat, like the word cafeteria. It's kind of a slang, odd usage
