AJRacing Wrong!!.. take a closer look and even Mark himself has mentioned this later.. it completely severed the thick square frame rail. Have a closer look when the car is on the hook.
Man I wish he would race full seasons again...I've lot my interest ever since he cut back his schedule....Loved cheering for this guy...What class act who always deserved to win any race he's been in.
That's what I loved about Mark, a nasty wreck, could've gotten hurt, and he can start laughing and saying how fun the car is regardless, he should be in broadcasting, either tv or radio.
That was the third time that a car sponsored by Aaron's was involved in a horrific crash. The first at Texas in 2008 with Michael McDowell, 2011 at Watkins Glen with David Reutimann and the third in 2012 with Mark Martin.
WOW. That was such a scary wreck. Glad to see that Mark is OK. That could have ended so badly. Also glad to see that the #5 crew is safe as well. Hopefully NASCAR can do something to fix the entrance to the Garage.
I remember that I was there I was sitting on the opposite end of pit road I was a little scared for him until I saw him get out safe, but if that wall would have speared the car a few feet closer to the front it could have killed him and that would have sucked
Champion driver by Mark Martin right there. Hope that someday, he and MWR can win a Daytona 500, or a championship, because he definitely deserves it. :)
I was there. Absolutely terrifying to watch. The whole crowd went silent until he got out of the car. So happy he walked away unhurt, but it's too bad he wrecked, he had the dominant car of the day!
Mark's car's black box was shipped ASAP to the electronics plant I was working at and I was pulled from my normal maintenance job because I was the only one left who knew how to extract and analyze the data. I thought to myself: "Aw crap. Someone's hurt bad." I'm a NASCAR fan and have been for a very long time (Dale Earnhardt era). I watched that race, but missed the crash. I remember watching the simulation (full-on "WTF?" mode) and then having to hit UA-cam to see what happened because it didn't look like a normal crash (it wasn't). What I saw was 100% Cringe/puke, but the data I forwarded was reassuring. That car design spectacularly absorbed most of the forces involved. The lateral G-forces, especially (no protection). I've gone through a lot, but I hope I never have to go through that. Mark's a beast and I've been a fanatic for life since.
"The Kid"...Now the "Old Man"...The epitome of the class of the field...Has this great day turn out not so great...All he can say is Man!!!, what a Hot Rod!!!...I'm just glad I got to drive it. Giving thanks...You the man Mark!!!
Every time I watch this I think "Its not that bad; Look how slow he's going." and then I see how easily the wall punctured the car, and what could've possibly happened if it was lined up with the driver.
And this is why you protect the end of EVERY wall. No matter how out of the way you think it is, someone *will* find it in a wreck eventually. It's inevitable.
exactly dude.where the wall hit is pretty much all sheet metal and suspension parts.i seriously doubt that wall would penetrate the cage at the lower speed he hit at.
He is not trying to get a championship anymore, he is racing for two reasons: 1. To make money (can't blame him). and 2. He still loves racing and sometimes helping small teams out. (I'm talking about the 01 car, and possibly other future cars)
If the car had caught the wall 2 feet forward of where it did, Martin wouldn't have lived thru it. Did you notice how far the wall breached the frame and rear of the cage, and went into the interior? He's one lucky fella IMO.
It seems Mark is the only one to get wrecked when he's doing good. It also seems whenever he has a chance to win someone messes up, catching Martin too
No it wouldn't have, the driver door has 4 1.5 inch tubes that resemble a rib cage that run all the way around. The only reason the wall penetrated the car here was because it hit behind the roll cage and in front of the rear axle. Everyone's making too big of a deal out of it.
Yep. Google the roll cage design of current Sprint Cup cars. It looks nasty because it hit near the tire well, where there's no roll cage, because there's no room and no need for it there. Had it hit in the drivers door, it may have bent the roll cage in some, but moving at that speed, it wouldn't have really done much. Driver side impacts from other cars are what you have to worry about.
@John Braxton Bowers - About the only thing I agree with is that he's screwing himself out of the chance to finally win a title by CHOOSING to (insistently at that) run part time. However your comments about him not owing NASCAR anything is puzzling. It has never been implied by anyone that he does.
I also have to say thank god that Mark is short and his seat had to be further forward, just imagine if Vickers or even worse, Waltrip were driving. Things would've been MUCH worse.
@John Braxton Bowers - Further, it is clear that; he does this for a paycheck and a shot to pick off wins once in a while. If he ever is severely injured in a wreck, as absolutely awful as that would be, it would fall into the assumed risk category. He is fully aware it can happen and is forced by no one to continue.
It's too bad he didn't hit the pit wall a little earlier...he would've just pancaked it and kept going and not caught the end of that other wall. way, way less damage.
I like his attitude. Never mad.. just accepts things the way they are
1:45 - 1:49.
Bravest cameraman in the world.
"Nobody beats Aarons"
The wall sure did.
you're going to hell, but i laughed
lol
Lmao, that's funny
😂 LOL
Except the wall
I miss Mark Martin. Loved that guy
Same
Listen to the dale jr download episode with him. Awesome interview. 2 parts tho so like 3-4 hours long
isn't it ironic that kasey kahne caught martin and martin hit kahne's pit stall?
Ya
And its Trip 5's. Crazy shit
And "nobody beats aaron's" XD
Talk about revenge.
Cameramen have balls of steel
Glad someone said it haha
Mark Martin is the man!! He is a great competitor, very respectul, and sets a great example for other drivers!!!
Even in 2012 safety standards, Mark Martin would surely not survive if the impact was a few more inches further to the front.
AJRacing Wrong!!.. take a closer look and even Mark himself has mentioned this later.. it completely severed the thick square frame rail. Have a closer look when the car is on the hook.
No, the wreck was at about 40 MPH, if were above 100, then maybe
Hitting a sword at 40 mph will still do damage, he would have been messed up bad or killed if the impact was 18 inches forward
Glad to know MM is okay! I nearly cried when I saw this wreck. Love you MM
Man I wish he would race full seasons again...I've lot my interest ever since he cut back his schedule....Loved cheering for this guy...What class act who always deserved to win any race he's been in.
Is it just me, or does Mark Martin have the worst luck?
No. Had that wall hit on the door, Mark could've been severely injured or worse
hes the best second place finisher known to man Ryan Smith
"Aw heck I don't know!" Lmao
That's what I loved about Mark, a nasty wreck, could've gotten hurt, and he can start laughing and saying how fun the car is regardless, he should be in broadcasting, either tv or radio.

It was such a shame that this happened at this race because Mark could have won here
Billy Jenkins Yup
Went right through the car. Damn...
WOW. That was such a scary wreck. Glad to see that Mark is OK. That could have ended so badly. Also glad to see that the #5 crew is safe as well. Hopefully NASCAR can do something to fix the entrance to the Garage.
1:48 camera man: no fucks given
Was always one of my most favorite drivers and still is and that is why. Doesn't try to be a hot head just stays like a true gentleman
The new cars are safer! Way to go NASCAR for making it so safe
Dale Aloniao You didn't saw the kyle Larson wreck at Daytona.
No he didn't saw that wreck
1:34 is not oil. It's fecal matter....cuz I'm pretty sure Mark must have shit himself right then.
I remember that I was there I was sitting on the opposite end of pit road I was a little scared for him until I saw him get out safe, but if that wall would have speared the car a few feet closer to the front it could have killed him and that would have sucked
I was in the infield and watched him spin den into pit road
this is the one and only time I'm going to praise the ESPN cameramen for keeping the camera where should be
Champion driver by Mark Martin right there. Hope that someday, he and MWR can win a Daytona 500, or a championship, because he definitely deserves it. :)
Evan Kirkpatrick AndM Mwr is bankrupt
Lol... about that...
I will never forget this. So glad he is ok and so is the rest of the crowd and pit crew'
2 -3 feet forward it would be a different story.
Unreal. Mark classy and funny as always, thats the best way to deal with something like this. Another reason I like the man.
I was there. Absolutely terrifying to watch. The whole crowd went silent until he got out of the car. So happy he walked away unhurt, but it's too bad he wrecked, he had the dominant car of the day!
One of the scariest crashes I ever seen. I always remember this one when talking about scary moments in nascar
Just imagine watching this crash from the pit stalls
Thats a GREAT example of a champion driver, I hope to be like him one day
Mark Martin is and always will be one of the most awesome drivers in any Motorsport.
i find it funny that ESPN ALWAYS misses the wild rare dangerous wrecks LIVE
He's always been one of my favorite drivers.
Go MARK !!!
Ugly crash, glad everyone's OK, and pure class by Mark Martin in his interview.
absolutely. it could've been devastating had it been even just over a foot forward.
really? a foot farther forward and thats in marks seat...
In racing there will always be one of those crazy crashes lucky everybody is okay!
This is one of the scariest wrecks I watched Mark have.
Was so glad he walked away unscathed.
"The Kid"...Now the "Old Man"...The epitome of the class of the field...Has this great day turn out not so great...All he can say is Man!!!, what a Hot Rod!!!...I'm just glad I got to drive it. Giving thanks...You the man Mark!!!

exactly dude.where the wall hit is pretty much all sheet metal and suspension parts.i seriously doubt that wall would penetrate the cage at the lower speed he hit at.
Wow...one of the worst crashes probably this year..
the wall went through the car like a hot knife through butter
Viewable here in non-US, does some channel in your country have exclusive rights to nascar?
i always use your character when i play nascar ps 1 and 2. nice to know you.
from indonesian fan.
He is not trying to get a championship anymore, he is racing for two reasons: 1. To make money (can't blame him). and 2. He still loves racing and sometimes helping small teams out. (I'm talking about the 01 car, and possibly other future cars)
That was an ugly crash. Glad Mark Martin and Kasey Kahne's crew are okay.
Hah, I was there at that race. Happened right across the track from where I was sitting. It was pretty wild. That wall went right behind his seat.
I went there to and I was on the front strech
It's definetly up there but still not as bad as the jet dryer accident with Montoya in the Daytona 500.
Glad Mark Martin and Kasey Kahne's crew are okay. That was an ugly crash.
If the car had caught the wall 2 feet forward of where it did, Martin wouldn't have lived thru it. Did you notice how far the wall breached the frame and rear of the cage, and went into the interior? He's one lucky fella IMO.
Holy shit, it's safe to say they've addressed this (hopefully).
Greatest NASCAR driver w/o a championship, IMO.
So this video is restricted to 'US only'?
How bizarre is that.
Nascar sponsors have no interest in exposure in the world market?
It seems Mark is the only one to get wrecked when he's doing good.
It also seems whenever he has a chance to win someone messes up, catching Martin too
I feel sorry for Kasey Khane, Not only was he in the Wreck. That was his pit box
No it wouldn't have, the driver door has 4 1.5 inch tubes that resemble a rib cage that run all the way around. The only reason the wall penetrated the car here was because it hit behind the roll cage and in front of the rear axle. Everyone's making too big of a deal out of it.
I felt a little pain when the car took that awful lick and the oil tank shattered.
Mark Martin is the epitome of class.
I didn't think this was bad until I saw how far that wall went into the car.....could have cut him in half..
It seems that Bobby Labonte got loose and sent Martin sliding over to pit road. Two or three wild rides those were.
really lucky that didn't pull his seatbelt mountings and cut him in half
It hit behind him.
Ya, not Juan's fault the dirty air on the 42 turned that 47 around. The same thing happened to Eric Armirola and David Gilliand earlier.
Most class in nascar. Almost gets cut in half and still doesnt cry about it. Marks yhe best
M
The crazyest crash since the Daytona 500. eariler this year. Thank goodness that Mark Martin and Kasey Kahne's crewmembers were ok.
2:13 the car also broke the wall, you can see the large crack.
It is? Odd... I'm watching it here in Toronto while I type this reply.
yea i agree, but i think he ment that when he wrecked bobby labonte, it caused mark to wreck
it amaze's me that you guys cant put 1 & 1 together i'll just leave this one alone...lol
Who are you talking to?
i still get sick watching this wreck i remember watching this race thinking we had wittnessed a tragedy god was with mark in that crash
@John Braxton Bowers - About the only thing I agree with is that he's screwing himself out of the chance to finally win a title by CHOOSING to (insistently at that) run part time. However your comments about him not owing NASCAR anything is puzzling. It has never been implied by anyone that he does.
of coarse mark would be the one to laugh about a crash like this XD
I WAS AT THIS RACE
if you were there you would've told us about it
I did
Was at this race because I sat on the front strech and Biffle won
I just realized that it almost knocked his left rear tire in.
I also have to say thank god that Mark is short and his seat had to be further forward, just imagine if Vickers or even worse, Waltrip were driving. Things would've been MUCH worse.
Not as scary as it looks. It caught the car in a place where the roll cage wasn't.
my first ever nascar race and my first ever nascar crash
He's the complete opposite of stewart. He takes it easy, never mad and throws his helmet around haha. ps my english is bad lol.
Michael meme Waltrip: Nobody Beats Aaron’s.
The wall: *n0W I b3At ar0nS!!!11!1*
Mark is luck to survive this wreak, the wall was only inches away for hitting him
Miss the days of Mark Martin..nobody better to watch at Dover
That would have messed Martin up bad, probably would have been fatal if it hit where he was in the car
Yep, fixed now... Maybe you weren't the only one reading the comments?
I don't think he was thanking them, he looked mad!
Notice how full the Stands were when we had real NASCAR
Mark Martin is living the dream!
That cameraman didn't even move lol
mark where is your legendary no.6...? what ever..he's the best..god bless your ..
Man I cringe every time i see this, been seeing it all day. Its a miracle he wasn't seriously injured...or worse.
Glad too hear god spared yur life during wreck uguys haves lots of courage
Lawrence Franks have*
And there is no God.
@John Braxton Bowers - Further, it is clear that; he does this for a paycheck and a shot to pick off wins once in a while. I should make a list of bad words that you shouldn't say
Uhh why?
Montoya was IN FRONT of the accident. It all took place behind him. So how is it his fault.
It's too bad he didn't hit the pit wall a little earlier...he would've just pancaked it and kept going and not caught the end of that other wall. way, way less damage.
Wonder if NASCAR ever did anything to cushion the end of those pit walls.
They extended the wall at a 45° angle
Gas and oil are two different things
Mark Martin is a class act.
