- Minato is a powerful ninja and became the 4th Hokage quite young. However, he made a massive mistake which almost cost the Leaf Village's existence. After the Minato vs Obito fight, which he thought was actually Minato vs Madara, he chose to seal the Nine Tails inside of Naruto. His newborn son. Obito extracted the Nine Tails from Kushina, she was going to die, from the extraction, as all Jinchurikis do, however, Kushina could have survived.
If Minato had sealed the Nine Tails on Kushina, or if Kushina had sealed the 9 Tails herself, then she would survive, Naruto wouldn't be a Jinchuriki, and Minato and Kushina would survive. Let's discuss why Minato made the decisions he made the day Naruto was born.

at no point could anyone make even a slight disturbance in the village without him being able to be there within the next second
a perfect example is Obito, who had Minato survived would’ve been caught right after because Minato could travel to wherever he was instantaneously
Let's say he does Mark Kakashi and Rin with the markers. How are they gonna notify him that they are in danger? Just because he has a place marked doesn't mean he knows what is going on in that place. And he does have the Hokage statue marked with it and several places too in cases of emergency. Not a single situation he was in would have been solved by having X person carry a mark. Please think before you actually respond.

What you’re saying is absolutely unintelligent, saying having more markers that he can instantly teleport to that cost him no extra chakra to maintain and that he can use to arrive anywhere is somehow “useless”?
Are you even thinking? Regardless of if he knows they are in danger, him being able to instantly teleport to them in a time of war is way more invaluable than having to sprint back to his team, did you comprehend that or do i need to explain further?

His mistake was not inserting half of Kurama in Kushina again. She was capable of restraining the whole Kurama while being stabbed , she could've handled half a Kurama with a bit more support from medic nins . But people make bad decisions while facing death , all the time, so there's that.
Obito hax basically makes a lot of plots hard to get behind since he can get everywhere without anyone knowing.
He's like a living cheat code.

What limits his movements is his philosophy. he was searching the world for answers to prove him wrong, but even with the Sharigan he found none because there was nothing to find. After that, he gave into despair.

Minato’s biggest mistake is not having one of his kunai on each of his students. He could’ve teleported to rin, saved her, fixed her seal so the 3 tails doesn’t burst out AAANNNDDDD talk no jutsu obito back. Now the leaf has 2 kamui users, 1 with hashirama cells, and 2 jinchuriki, 3 and 9 tails

Nothing would change. Even if they all had marked kunai, how would Minato know anyone is in danger at that exact moment? If there were a way to contact him, he would have shown up some point afterwards but never did, he was off on a different mission.

In hindsight, it would've been a better decision to introduce the concept that you can save a jinchuriki by sealing back the bijuu inside right there. Kurama could've slip up the information while chained up. The kyuubi attack happens after the kazekage rescue for the reader. Plus, it would've been nice to see minato try to seal Kurama back in Kushina and Kurama, in desperation, launches an attack on baby Naruto because he understood Naruto's importance to Minato and Kushina, trying to disrupt the sealing justu. Which then forces them to block its nail and now, knowing they would both die, Minato uses Reaper death seal as it goes in the show.
It doesn't break anything previously established, Kurama and Minato now both know in the war Arc that they can save Naruto sealing Kurama back and the reasoning behind Minato's decision is no longer a mistake, but a necessity.
That's good logic! I could see that being what happened in Dygo's Rewrite.
But, I genuinely think that Kushina would still have died even if she got Kurama sealed back in her. The only reason Naruto comes back totally fine after he gets Kurama back is because Hagoromo gave him a boost, otherwise Naruto would have lived but not been in peak condition. Kushina was in much worse physical condition than Naruto (she'd just given birth for crying out loud) and doesn't have Hagoromo to give her a boost. She would have died even if she got Kurama back.
@@wanderingshade8383 Even if she didn't die, I think she may have some very heavy consequences to her health (from the pain of the extraction + giving birth having made her weaker, as in very tired) and all. Heck, she may have never gotten her full capacity from before giving birth afterward.
I have seen someone once thinking that the hundred seal like marking on Mito's forehead may have been a chakra reserve she built so she would survive for a while after giving Kyubi, maybe so she could teach to the next person that would be the jinchuriki, as she would have stored up a crazy amount of chakra over the decades (especially given she is an Uzumaki).
So, even Kushina could have known that a large amount of chakra may be enough to keep a jinchuriki alive, albeit nothing beats having the tailed beast back in your body. (Which in turn, if this was linked to Mito, then, you can make a scene of Sakura helping Tsunade organise some personal things, maybe when she just moved back to Konoha ? and accidentally dropping a dairy or something from Mito, on this very convenient passage. Because, you cannot tell me she would not memorize an information that would allow her to save Naruto's life if needs be. And, she could have still saved Naruto with CPR and litterally pumping his heart with her hand, but also sends him some of her chakra, which goes with that theme of chakra being the connection between people, and how Naruto is being saved by some of the strongest bonds he created : Gaara, who knows his pain and whose life was saved by him... and has some of his lifeforce/chakra in him, and Sakura, who is the person that was with him through most of his shinobi journey and have repeatedly saved his life, having also become a better person by being with him, someone who is his family and even more so, now in this metaphorical way, as chakra is a lifeforce.)
@@orianefaton1885a few words,Uzumakis are "known for their Chakra reserves" in the Fandom but Mito and Kushina are the ones who are exceptions because of their large amounts of Chakra.
Mito and Kushina are rare breeds in the clan. Not every Uzumaki is like that ,probably not even close.

It was mostly Hiruzen just not doing anything to help Naruto that made his childhood so bad. All he needed to do was say “Naruto is the seal for the Nine Tails” and nobody, or at least most people, wouldn’t have hated him.

Really he was stuck in a situation where no Hokage has ever been, which is choosing the safety of the Village to the safety of his child and that is no easy decision for any leader who is a parent.

Wild card. Minato seals half the Nine Tails into Kushina and half into Naruto. Kushina lives and Naruto would still be able to harness its power to protect the village.
I think that's the best idea.
Give kushina enough of the nine tails to survive and then give the rest to naruto.
That way naruto can still have the nine tails AND his mother would still be alive.
That would’ve been the best option. Minato only died because of Shinigami, Kurama just expedited things also in this scenario Kurama would most likely opt to kill kushina instead of naruto if anything and Minato isn’t gonna bother saving her since he already believes she’ll die anyways. In chapter 503 of the manga minato does state “Also because it’s impossible to seal something that big inside someone” I don’t think people realize this but he’s referring to naruto when he’s making that statement the entire reason Minato even sealed half inside himself is because he didn’t believe naruto could handle the full Kyuubi seeing as he was just an infant baby he thought naruto would die in the process. I’ve seen people argue that Minato didn’t have enough chakra left to seal all of Kurama but that’s false he still needed chakra for both the Shinigami seal and Eight Trigrams which is still equivalent to sealing the full Kyubi inside of someone. The way the Shinigami Seal works is that the user needs the equivalent or more chakra compared to the amount of lifeforce they want to seal away, Kabuto even states that had Hiruzen been 10 years younger he would’ve had enough chakra to all of Orochimaru’s soul away and even the anbu watching the battle said that Hiruzen no longer had access to the chakra reserves he used to which even further supports this and even further than that the data book itself states how the Shinigami seal works I feel like it’s just desperation to save Minato’s character. So even in Minato’s mind even if kushina was going to die atleast Naruto would have half the kyuubi and himself would be alive therefore keeping the jinchuuriki alive and still having the 4th hokage.
Kushina actually would’ve survived getting Kyuubi sealed into her. In the 4th great ninja war when Obito is extracted Minato states that Obito would remain alive due to the fact that Juubi left enough of his chakra inside obito to keep him alive so if Kushina had enough Kyuubi chakra to fall back on like obito she would’ve survived. When Naruto is extracted he basically damn near dies compared to Kushina who was still strong enough to hold down kurama and this was post birth, obito even states the only reason she didn’t die immediately was due to her Uzumaki lineage giving her more Vitality which she would have more of compared to Naruto who’s only half uzumaki safe to say she would’ve been fine

Minato was the “nuke” for the leaf if he was still alive. No nation would dare to step a foot in leaf even if they lost the nine tails.
If Kushina assumed absorbing the 9 tails would kill her, she couldve done what Minato did instead, and halved up the chakra between her and Naruto or even given Minato the other half.
Minato was just too emotional to think about that and Kushina too tired to argue

one explanation could be that 1) naruto had some of kuramas genetics cuz like kushina had naruto inside her when she also had kurama inside her (pause) 2) the seal on naruto was made in a way that allows kuramas chakra to slowly seep into naruto so like ive hear that from people
Don't forget the fox whiskers naruto inherited at birth. Kushina didn't develop those whiskers, maybe when she went into jinchuri mode they would appear? but if that's the case they weren't permanent whiskers on her face like Naruto's and his kids
… or Kushina could’ve just sealed the 9 tails into Naruto and Minato with the Reaper Death Seal. Only con is that Kushina is just doing very unlucky.
She would have died and Naruto would have never seen his mother. Suffice to say he would have died to the 9 tails upon trying to tame it.

I interpret it as this. Minato knew how strong "madara" was so having a weaker seal to bind The nine tail is super risky. BY spiliting it even if madara can get the nine tail losing it again will be less dangerous
And Minato would of been dead so there's no way he would have gained the other half even if he succeeded in getting Naruto's.
@@justinarzola4584 the biggest problem is for some reason Jiraiya decided to not come back to the village even though Kushina was giving birth. Consider how much Jiraiya think Minato was the prophercy child and treated him like a family member while also knowing how dangerous it is for Kushina to give birth, it was super weird from him to not be their. And I even doubt that Minato either didn't havve a hiraishin mark in possession of Jiraiya or use the frog to teleport him back like how Naruto got back.

When Naruto was getting healed by Sakura and was giving half the nine tails and other tails beast charaka from obito stealing from madara and was awakened by hagaromo when kushina was already dying she lost the full nine tails she also gave birth and was using charaka chains but minato could’ve also had more charaka with his sage mode which for even before Naruto’s birth he could’ve done for the nine tails seal so yea
@DygoKnight Kushina's seal wasn't the reaper death seal. It was the four symbols seal. Naruto's seal is a double variant of it.
Kurama being sealed into Naruto ended up being a major problem just as I knew it would. Another character being the source of the MC’s power is a problem for so many reasons. Most important reason being that once this character dies, the MC is pretty much powerless. Which is what’s currently happening in boruto. So now kishimoto can either write some ass pull new and improved power up for Naruto, or naruto just has to be reduced to a side character like the z fighters lol.
But a tailed beast should’ve NEVER been the source of Naruto’s power in the first place. Hashirama wasn’t a jinchuriki, asura wasn’t a jinchuriki, so why was Naruto made a jinchuriki? And this could’ve worked if Naruto actually developed his own power or wasn’t completely fodder without kuramas chakra, but instead naruto used kurama as a crutch for the entire series even before he mastered his chakra. Now that crutch is gone and we have a huge problem lol.

Minato's worst mistake was sealing the fox inside his own son I mean the forth alone was very feared while alive so loing the fox wouldn't be a big deal minato made a navie decision basically side note just my personal opinion.

The best option I could see is splitting the nine tails between Kushina and Naruto. That gives the village 2 Jin Churiki, so if one murals is taken they still have the other

Without ever needing to perform the Uchiha Massacre. I believe you would have an Itachi that did not suffer from an chakra disease stemming from his Sharingan, due to; in my opinion, putting the love of his life in a Tsukuyomi that lasted a full lifetime. Additionally, you would also have a Shisui alive as Danzo would not have been able to have so much power in Root. The Plot Hole is cataclysmic to consider it.
@DygoKnight I don't agree with a lot of your takes in Naruto. I'm 5 mins in, and I agree with what you've said so far. I've been saying for years that if Minato just put Kurama back inside Kushina, she would have lived. The war arc tells us this as it did the same for Naruto. You address that in your video. It bothers me that no one else seems to talk about it.
For that very reason, this is Minato's biggest mistake. He could never have known that; Kurama wouldn't just tell him at this point, either. The series worked out fine but the point still stands. If Minato listened to Kushina, the world would have turned out better. The full 9 tails still alive, Minato being the strongest person alive. Then you have a much stronger Naruto, at least from a younger age. The leaf would have been unstoppable.
It doesn't actually matter what person Minato chooses to house the nine tails. The nine tails would have attacked that person regardless resulting in the death of half of the nine tails, even if he chose to seal it inside of kushina the nine tails would have simply attacked kushina and minato would have jumped to save her just like with Naruto, had he decided to seal the nine tails inside of himself without splitting it he would have been killed and we wouldn't have a nine tails in the story with none to capture it making the situation even worse. Minato chose the optimal solution given the situation.
@@ACertainMan By the time the nine tails attacks Naruto, half of him was already sealed. He attacked only after that fact. That means if the full nine tails was sealed back into Kushina, he wouldn't be around to attack anyone. He was sealed first then attacked before the rest was sealed. In this situation there wouldn't be a piece left of him to attack. Kushina would have lived, Kurama would be around only the full Kurama this time. Minato would have lived and gotten stronger. Too many factors play into this, but that one decision changes everything.

Meaning while yes Minato does live Naruto does not end up meeting his mother ever which is why Minato disagreed.
@ACertainMan, that's just not true. Minato didn't say he wasn't capable of sealing the full 9 tails. He couldn't seal it all in himself because he can't handle the chakra. He also couldn't seal it all in Naruto because baby Naruto couldn't handle that chakra. Kushina was going to let it all be sealed back inside her but she just thought the 9 tails would die with her. So did Minato. The thing is that would have stopped her from dying. Kushina herself says that she is going to die anyway because of biju extraction, so she wanted the 9 tails to die with her. However if the 9 tails was put back inside her she wouldn't have died

It wouldn't even make sense for him to seal the full 9 tails inside of him since that would be against the point.
Kushina was already in a terrible shape after the extraction, simply placing the Kyuubi inside her would not undo the damage she has, she was already on deaths door, Minato even says "If you die with it inside you" you have to take into account that the woman didn't even recover from giving birth to Naruto.
Ngl, the chaotic powerscaling of Naruto makes Hiruzen being unable to handle the 9-tails with the aid of the entire village minus Minato weird. The moment Obito was dealt with should have been Hiruzen + Minato taking down the 9-tails without any reaper death sealing nonsense.

The fact that jiraiya wasnt around when the village was in a vulnerable situation is such a plot hole. Did he not know the dangers of a jinchuuriki giving birth? Minato didnt tell him? He was the godfather of naruto. Why wasnt he around?
Jiraiya was busy investigating things outside the village and didn’t have time to just hang around the village on the off chance that maybe something bad might happen with the nine tails.
@@jairekambui7738 he left the village when they were at their most vulnerable. It wasnt an off chance. The proof of that is that minato prepared a whole setup so that narutos birth was ok. Also, he was in the village during the pregnancy. Why would he leave to investigate only a couple of months before narutos birth, when everyone knew there was a risk of the nine tails getting out of control?
@@eduardobranco8349 The only reason the nine tails was released and went berserk is because of Obito’s influence. Had everything gone according to plan, there would be no need for Jiraiya to be around and survey things. In theory, the village should’ve had adequate personnel to stop a standard assault from another ninja village without him being present. Obito being who he was with his abilities and planning and connection to Madara obviously caught everyone off guard. No one had any intelligence on him and he was presumed dead at the kannabi bridge mission. I don’t think it’s nonsensical that Jiraiya wouldn’t just hang around the village doing nothing just waiting for the child to be born just so that he could help fend off a threat that may or may not happen. Remember, according to the new lore from the minato chapter, there was a sealing barrier around the village to help contain the nine tails in Kushina that she was generally prevented from exiting unless she was being deployed for battle. This should’ve been in effect during the childbirth to offset the weakening of the seal.
@@jairekambui7738 there was no reason for him to leave literally a couple of months earlier. What if multiple villages got together to fight the leaf and try steal the nine tails? That is very reasonable to happen. But instead of that he left the village for no reason. And I say no reason, because during his investigations he spent countless hours writing porn. Why would he do that instead of staying home to make sure the leaf wont be attacked? It makes no sense. He could have easily waited literally a couple of months and his investigations would not be compromised at all. Securing the village and the nine tails was way more important
@@eduardobranco8349You may have a point, however I think this is a situation where just because a character makes a wrong decision in hindsight, that doesn’t mean it’s a plot hole. Jiraiya probably thought with two kage level shinobi in the village and the village on high alert that they would be ready for whatever transpired without him and he wouldn’t need to spend time around the village waiting in preparation of a potential attack. In hindsight we know he made a mistake, but perhaps at the time he thought he was right on the trail of Orochimaru and was close to a breakthrough. Maybe he was finished with his investigations for the time being and was reporting back but came too late. We don’t know. I don’t think this is a plot hole necessarily. Just because things didn’t work out in the way where all the characters make the “correct decisions” doesn’t make it a plot hole or bad writing. For example: you could say the same thing about Guy and the pain invasion. You could argue that after the Akatsuki suppression mission and the deaths of Asuma and defeat of Hidan and Kakuzu, that they should’ve recalled all ninja out on missions to fortify the village in case of an attack from the Akatsuki. But that’s not what happened. The story provided explanations for both of these situations, obviously the real answer to both of these is that there are too many extremely powerful characters on the side of Konoha to have them be around when the dangerous scenarios happen. It’s a difficult situation as a writer because in order to achieve the desired result in some cases, you have to contrive a non ideal scenario. Guy happens to be on a mission and Jiraiya happens to be on his investigations. But if you included them, you’d have to make the villains much more powerful for them to remain threatening.
Hes younger than kakashi in oart 1 for reference kakashi was like 26 and not to mention jiariya, tsunade and orochimaru were much older and he still solos

This reminds me of those Infinite Tsukuyomi fillers in the anime. One "arc" had both of Naruto's parents still alive, with Naruto and Kushina each having half of the Nine-Tails. Naruto having the Yang half like in canon, and Kushina having the Yin half

I think it's just one of the n weird scenarios the author found messed up due the initial view for the story compared to the turn it tooks from Shippuden to the end.
Everything related to that night and Naruto's parents is a mess in the story and makes not so much sense at all
When that night was established (chapter 1) probably the Fox was a monster unable to be dealt with (like Minato was unable to actual defeat him), the reaper seal was the only trick avaliable (and it's inner working were not established), Kushina be the previous host of the fox (or the fact the fox had another host before naruto) was not a stuff, ecc....
Then when he expanded the world lore, he found himself in this weird corner.
PS: it's noteworthy to notice that the reaper's held for 16 years half of the fox's chakra without even realize... Given this possiblity... Gather the tail beasts and seal them all (or most of them) into the reaper was a quite clean solution to their problems in general

You just described tsunade's tskuyomi dream's filler arc (around 440-460)
Some pointers:
- Naruto was a Newborn, could his body even hold a fully powered Ninetales? Even Kushina got Ninetales when she was much older, its power might be too much compared to other beasts for a newborn.
- Kushina just gave birth (as you mentioned), she might be too weakend to endure the sealing and threw that idea out right away
- Splitting or not, none of the other villages would know, they would just know that the Ninetales is still in the leaf Village
- Between Minato's death and the end of Naruto, Minato might have gained new knowledge
Also just from a writers POV, Minato was way too OP to be alive, would take too much to keep him out of stuff so her doesn't insta resolve things XD
Personaly I have never liked that Minato splited Nine Tailes in half. Like it made Kurama which we saw becoming friends with Natuto far less special because there is another half of Nine Tailes out there. I think Kishimoto did this so Minato could have KCM (like of 4th hokage wasn't alredy cool enough with sage mode and flying raijin) and so he can give hist part to Naruto when he was dying. If I was the writer I would give Naruto full Nine Tails and Minato would sacrifice himself in the war so Obito only extracs half of tailed beast thous saving Naruto's live.

Kushina couldn't seal Kurama in her self cause she was too tired and almost dying. Minato didn't seal in her either cause she was almost dead and couldn't survive and Kyuubi would be free in a few years, and that would get the village endangered.

Maybe half of kurama would not enough to save kushina since she had the whole thing all her life? And you probably cant just stack the seal twice in one person.
Big correction; you said it's unusual to seal the Bijuu in a baby and mentioned examples of children, teenagers or adults.
You made a mistake by mentioning Gara of the sand as a Jenchuriki who had their tailed beast as a child. Shikaku was sealed into Gara when his mother was pregnant with him which killed her. That is even younger than Naruto obviously.
I think the only reason why it worked with Naruto is that:
1) The 9 tails wasn't hostile to Naruto and would work towards healing/strengthening him
2) He was physically in better shape than Kushina who not only just gave birth and was fighting but she most likely was out of commission for 3-9 months as well. Naruto was actively training.
3) Naruto only had half the nine tails ripped out of him while Kushina had the full thing pulled out of a far stronger seal so putting in a half probably isn't going to be enough to help her

Kushina definetely did not seal the Nine Tails into herself because she was an academy kid at the time. It was almost certainly Mito. I cannot think of a reason why they couldn't just put the Kyuubi back into Kushina though.

Naruto had constant healing from Sakura and was not under mortal physical injury unlike Kushina who literally gave child birth and was running low on Chakra. Even if she sealed the nine tails inside of her she would have still died due to the bad state she was in with the last bits of her chakra gone now.

I just realized that there are a lot of parallels between Naruto and his parents, and Ichigo with his parents.
Both moms died and passed on a special extinct lineage, along with demonic energy.
Both dads were one of the greatest leaders within their militaries, but the son never gets to know that, it's hidden from him.

I think best case scenario would be to seal half inside Kushina, half inside Naruto, and the three of them live. Naruto gets training from both his parents, and who knows, until Naruto grows Kushina might get a head start on the whole bond with Kurama so Naruto could learn to master the Kurama powers much faster while receving training directly from the Rasengan creator and a Sealing Jutsu clan specialist - just like Minato was learning from Kushina. That would make Naruto an even greater asset to the village beyond being a jinchuuriki boy.
I think the village would have been much better off with either kushina or minato alive. Honestly, they were more valuable to the village than kurama.

I’d say Naruto was the possible exception for this since he only ever had half. Or maybe it’s the type of seal used on him that’s the deciding factor.

I think you are forgetting 3 major factors. Minato not being an Uzumaki, Kushina just giving birth, and Kurama's willingness to be re-sealed.
There is a reason that the hidden leaf only used the Uzumaki to hold the 9 tales. I think it's reasonable to assume that Minato just wouldn't reasonably be able to handle holding the 9 tales while Naruto with Uzumaki chakra can. Minato has only been shown containing Kurama while being an Edo Tensei whom can have unlimited chakra. So it makes sense he couldn't seal it into himself and live.
Kushina just gave birth right before losing the nine tales. Even if Minato did know that you can re-seal a taled beast back into a Jinchuriki to save their life, it's possible that the combo of giving birth and losing a taled beast would make her too weak to hold him back or just outright kill her.
Another big difference with these situations is that Kurama was actually willing to be re-sealed with Naruto while he wasn't willing to at all back then. It could be that it's difficult to impossible to re-seal a taled beast when they are fighting back. Kurama willingly re-sealing with Naruto is way more natural a process and could make a massive difference. Kurama would also be able to lend his own chakra and regenerative abilities to aid in healing Naruto.
Now, I think the only problem left to solve is if Minato had to specifically use the Reaper Death Seal. I think we just don't know enough about all the sealing Jutsu he could have used. Would they be strong or fast enough? I don't think we know enough specifics to know that. Maybe just beat him up first? I don't know how easy that would be for him either. Might be too big a risk. Also, the attempt might also risk Kurama killing way more people during his rampage.
So I think it's reasonable to conclude that it was a logical decision. If anyone has any insight on something that I missed, feel free to share.
Yes Minato would have solved many of the problems in Part 1 and most of part 2. But what happens when Minato dies of old Age and the Leaf village no longer has the 9 tails? There would be a war and many would die. The cycle of hatred would continue. It would just be stalled

I think Minato didn't know he could put the nine tails back into Kushina and her live, as well as I don't think she had enough Chakra to contain the 9 tails after that. Most likely he'd have done that and Kurama would have just taken over kushinas body and been released within minutes because she was so low om Chakra and so close to death. I'd also add outside of Minato and Kushina I don't think there was another ninja alive in Konaha that could have fought or sealed the 9 tails
And obviously....Itachi in village + Minato + shisui ...must be far bigger asset than nine tails I guess 😂
The logic suffers from having to work backwards from the conclusion. Naruto had the fox and his parents were dead so they had to justify that and it ended up with Minato being dumber to justify it. The best internal logic you could have for kushina dying is that resealing kurama would have killed her from the strain regardless of getting the fox back into her. As for the sealing bit well the prep time to make a ritual sealing would be too long and he didn’t have the juice to do it the fast way

Maybe the 8 trigram seal was a bit to hard for minato to peform alone? Or it cost too much chakra for his state? Maybe the reaper death seal was a guaranteed way of sealing high level opponents with the requirement of sacrifice of one's own life in return.
He used that seal because he also wanted to seal Kushina's chakra inside of Naruto so he can meet her that's why he sacrificed his life

What if Kushina would've been able to take in the Ninetales, but because of her weakened state, and using an apparently weaker seal, she couldn't contain the whole thing. Then Minato, now forced to use the reaper death seal, wanting to preserve as much of the village's tailed beast power as possible, puts the other half into Naruto. If Minato didn't have to take the entire thing and could seal part of it in someone else's, he probably didn't actually need to take in any of it.
