I love making artisan bread in a dutch oven, seasoned with pink salt and fresh Rosemary. You'd think it would be finicky, but I find it's one of the most foolproof recipes out there... so long as you follow all the steps Sam laid out!
I’ve made bread like this many times using a similar recipe and it’s always fantastic. I like to throw some ice cubes in the preheated pot with the dough for extra steam. The main problem I have is not getting full on bread before the main dish is ready. My advice, don’t even taste the bread until all of the other food is ready to be served. Excellent video, Sam! 🥇
@ The critical aspect of this recipe is keeping some of the steam from the dough as it bakes in the cooking vessel for as long as possible, so you don’t necessarily need a Dutch oven. I use an all metal stock pot and lid. Any pot and lid without plastic knobs / handles will work as long as it’s large enough. I’ve heard that some people have been successful making this type of recipe on a sheet pan with the dough inside of a disposable oven bag like the ones used to cook turkeys. Good luck!!!
I have never made breads of any sort. I decided that today i would give it a try. I started sour dough starter three days ago, and will give that a try. I just 🙏 this works, because my Mom is in the hospital and refuses to eat the hospital food. If it passes the test, homenade sandwiches headed her way.
I opted for the two loaves on a cookie sheet method and just now took them out of the oven. They look and smell incredible. These will be the perfect addition to tonight’s buttery garlic tortellini. Btw, this was my first time making round bread. How fun! Thanks for sharing.
I find if you dust a little bit of flour before putting the plastic wrap and letting rise for the last 30 minutes, the dough won’t stick as much on the plastic wrap! Nothing like a good artisan bread 😍😍😍😍
I will certainly try this, your other bread recipes are fantastic! My families favorite sandwich bread is your recipe, our favorite garlic bread is your recipe and I have a feeling this will be another favorite. Oh, your meatballs with marinara has become our regular Friday night dinner. I like to make them up and freeze them then vacuum seal them into dinner portions, all I have to do then is put them in the fridge the night before to thaw and proceed with your directions. As an American that's been out of country for a few years I really really appreciate your recipes because I'm able to have food I've always known when I want it... like banana pudding and your nilla wafers. I wouldn't be able to have that at all if you didn't have 100% from scratch to make it. I don't eat out... not a fan of local food so thank goodness you're here. Have wonderful day and thank you so very much for sharing all that you do.
Sam. Oh, man. Your poor stand mixer! I thought you’d let it shine making bread. Such a neglected appliance in your house 😢. 😂😂😂 Keep cooking girl. Love your channel ❤❤❤❤
Making this today! I'll be honest, this is a far cry from how I usually make bread, especially when it comes to the shaping and how sticky and loose it is. But man, that end result looks to be exactly what I've been wanting to make this whole time I've been making bread, haha. Thanks for sharing!
This bread is wonderful with dipping oil. I pour olive oil on a small plate, then sprinkle with Weber Roasted Garlic & Herb seasoning, which I love. This is a yummy alternative to traditional garlic bread. Dip pieces of the bread and enjoy!
That looks great! I made your sourdough pizza crust yesterday and did a deep dish version of it in my cast-iron skillet. My husband said it was the best pizza he’s ever had. :-)
as with other youtubers doing this fold method... you can do all the folds in the bowl without adding so much flour.... and you can either use your hand with a little water on them or a spatula
I find putting the Parchment paper into a bowl about the same size as your Dutch Oven and dropping the Dough into that paper lined Bowl while you heat your Dutch Oven, then the Dough takes a better shape for when you're having to deal with a 450 Degree Iron Bowl and Dough that wants to lose it's shape as you're lowering it into the HOT pot.
bread looks wonderful. can not wait to make it. I do have a question. how would I add asiago cheese to this bread and how much of it. Really any kind of cheese bread. hope you can help. keep up with the great recipes. Thank you
The bread looks great! I have a 3.6 quart shallow dutch oven and a 7.5 quart dutch oven. Would the 7.5 quart work for this recipe? Maybe 1.5x the recipe?
Are you like Giada DeLaurentis where you don't eat the food you make to stay super slim? These delicious recipes of yours are killing my waistline. LOL
Good Day the recipe is great ? last week I made the dough in the morning did 2 fold that night left it over nigh did 2 more folds the next day ?is that okay or did it stop something?
Sam good morning, ? You said or I heard preheat oven & Dutch oven for 30 min at 450° while bread is resting. But then you said put back into 350° degree oven for 30 min. I'm confused Sorry do you preheat to 450° them drop to 350° to cook?? I Love all your videos. Thank you
Sorry for the confusion. I caught it too late go back and fix it. I did pin a comment in hopes of alleviating confusion, but the 350 was an error. The oven should stay at 450 and the bread baked on 450. :)
I use my bread machine for dough then transferred to oven at 450 for 30-40 minutes...I use a iron tray covered with parchment paper...sometime I spray water over when I place in the oven for a hard crust....
Why is your hair out while cooking? Isn't that the number one rule when cooking? To tie up your hair? Not only that, but you are touching your hair with your hands while you're doing this!
NOTE: When baking, this is to go in a 450 degree preheated oven, not the 350 I said when adding bread to the oven. I apologize for the confusion.
No biggie Sam we all do it 😀
Watching cooking videos I tend to pay a quite a bit of attention, more than my bank account. Thank you for clearing that up.
For me I like mixing the water, sugar, and yeast together first to make sure it's still active. Nice video, thanks for sharing!

That is some great advice, because once the bread is done.... all bets are off, I'm eating!!! 🤣
😂❤😊
I don’t have a Dutch oven. What shall i use

I wish you the best and a super speedy recovery to your mom! I know how tough that can be. :(
@@SugarSpunRun Thank you! It turned out great. Very delicious. This could become addicting and dangerous 😂

@@SugarSpunRun update: delicious. Another keeper from Sugar Spun!

Oh.. this is on my baking list for this week now!
You are going to love it! :)

Great tip! I'll have to try it next time. :)
I love how crisp it is on the outside and airy and tender on the inside! Nom!

Cooking spray on saran wrap helps for it not to stick so much

can you add the water n yeast n sugar first? then add the flour?
What brand of bread flour do you use??
I use King Arthur it's very affordable especially when Publix does a buy one get one free! This flour delivers exceptional results everytime
I use King Arthur in this recipe, but I have had success with just about every brand on the shelf. :)

Hi Sam forgot one? Can you use Artisan bread flour? Thanks
Hi Sam how are you I’M going to make this❤I’m Laura
I use my bread machine for dough then transferred to oven at 450 for 30-40 minutes...I use a iron tray covered with parchment paper...sometime I spray water over when I place in the oven for a hard crust....
Thank you for the feedback! :)
THIS was so inspiring for my no spend January! Heading to the kitchen right now…… 🤍🥖✨
I hope you love it! :)
The bread looks great. One thing... right before you put it in the oven, you said 350-degree oven. You meant 450 degrees, right?
I just asked basically the same? 😊
I am so sorry!!! Yes it is 450. I’m sorry for the confusion.
Just trying to help.
Can you use instant yeast?
Yes!
Will this recipe work in a 3 qt Dutch Oven or would it need to be reduced?
It would likely be too large for a 3 qt dutch oven.
.....but can you add cheese?
Left dough on the spoon and in the bowl...
