    I wish they would just fix Siri. I’ve invested in HomePods all over my house and Siri on the HomePod isn’t in parity with Siri on the iPhone. It says to ask again from the iPhone all .. the .. time. I’d add this to your infrastructure comment. I have a great smart home with a terrible assistant.

      I fully agree with quite a bit of what you’re saying. I think most of us would agree that one of the biggest complaints throughout all of these years with technology. Is that instead of them making the current technology work more reliably. They come out with a completely new type of technology that they have to work out all the bugs all over again. This also makes us have to learn something completely brand new. Now this is all exciting and fun. But most of us wish they would make the current technology work better or more reliable. Myself, like others, have been dealing with all of the brands, including Apple, with consistent updates just to make their current product actually work. In my opinion, if these companies who charge a premium for their product would actually have to start paying back the customers, who bought their products and cannot get a consistent and reliable use out of it. I believe half of the “technology“ companies wouldn’t even be around.
      If any of these companies could do it. I believe Apple would be one of the top ones. I think if they would concentrate on making a complete system for us to buy that will work conclusively altogether. I believe people, like me, would spend the extra money. I have an extreme amount of fear, the “matter“ that’s being pushed right now. These companies can’t even get their own products to work with each other. Now we’re expected to believe that with “matter“ that all of the other brands are going to work with everything else around. In my opinion, I think we’re at least 10 to 15 years or more out before this becomes a reality. Which we all know it probably won’t. Because in about three years, they will come up with something completely totally different than Matter. And we will all have to start from square one again.

    I'm fairly skeptical they'll do anything too elaborate with Homekit and Smart Home developments only because it has felt for a long time like any and all developments have been halted or abandoned, what with features basically not being added and key players leaving the job. On top of that, as a HomeKit user for as long as it's been available, HomeKit has often felt like something no one at apple actually uses for their own home. It's not aligned with any product or software that apple uses in terms of the language and design of HomeKit. If they did get into Wifi/Networking again, then my interest would be piqued as much of the problems with HomeKit will come from a bad router.

    The mobile-robot idea is stupid in so many ways (IMO) that I don't want to take the time to list all of them here. Just two points: 1) What happens in a house with multiple people walking around? 2) Assuming they can make this useful (which I very much doubt), how useful is it going to be for me as I go up-and-down the stairs between different floors in my house?
    I might write up some more later on, but I have to leave for work right now...

  • @left0verture

    I don’t see any value in having a robot wandering around my house. (Other than the robovac I already have). I like your idea of 🍎 putting more effort into infrastructure. I bought an AirPort Extreme a bunch of years ago and it’s still one of the most dependable devices I have. However, it was orphaned by 🍎 years ago, so I don’t expect to see them getting back into that space. Looks like AI is going to be a big focus for them in the immediate future. Maybe… just maybe that bodes well for Siri? So much wasted potential there…

    It’s very frustrating Apple are not doing more in this space. Exceptionally frustrating. As you say, even just from the router perspective.
    So many households out there are running the shittiest and cheapest Chinese routers supplied by their ISPs that haven’t updated in 10-20+ years. Outrageous.

    6:57 $70 is NOT a lot to pay for a light switch that just works. $20 for a light switch that “might” work is a lot. People need to stop justifying mediocrity with a lower price point.
    If you pay a premium and it doesn’t work reliably that’s just as big of an issue.

    • @EricWelander
      @EricWelander  2 місяці тому

      Well said. At higher price points you get into things people simply can't afford but if you're adding a smart light switch, you can probably change your budget to fit $70 over a certain amount of time.
