The G4YKB Delta Loop - WWFF 40 m Pile Up

- Too windy for SOTA? Try some WWFF - World Wide Flora and Fauna - from the comport of your vehicle!
44 contacts needed to qualify the WWFF area. Of course I made it harder by taking along an untried antenna - the G4YKB delta loop, which is a magnetic loop. Link below:

Enjoy!

Just love that motor Fraser!! The delta loop seems like a great addition to your antenna collection! Well done on the wwff activation Gm4zji Chris
The delta loop looks like it's going to be fun. Storing it is the issue. It is still strapped to the roof of the Landie!
Nice one Fraser, interesting to see the inside of the Land Rover - looks cosy!
Cheers. It's very cosy!
Ahaha you got everything I want now, a Ham licence and a Land Rover Camper ! ;-)
Thanks! Had the Land Rover for 10 years. Really should use it more for portable.

Thanks for the WWFF QSO Fraser. Your Land Rover is a nice bit of kit and clearly gives a comfortable operating position. The Delta Loop antenna worked well for you and well done on the QSO's.

Thanks Chris. You were putting out a brilliant signal with your 5 watts. Thanks also for suggesting GMFF-0001.

First time viewer here and you got me hook line and sinker with that Land Rover...I use a Racal PU12 that attaches to the back of the van but does not compare to your cozy setup, love it. M3TJT
Hi Toby, Welcome!
I really need to get out in Dora a bit more. I've been too busy climbing hills for my SOTA Mountain Goat!
73, Fraser MM0EFI
A great vid Fraser, love the truck, not jealous at all, hi hi.
Cheers Gary. Dora is a great truck. The 13 mpg from the V8 is the only thing that's hard to live with. Thankfully we don't do many miles in her.
@@theradiorover Yes, but a proper engine at that.
Love the landy Fraser, got myself a 2a to play with, I now also have shares in Britpart ha ha. Interested in the antenna, need to look that one up. Good video, catch you soon.
I also have a IIA. Interesting ride ! You need to send me a photo or two.
I have been thinking about getting the G4YKB delta loop for a while, but this is the first video that I seen using this. It seems to work well, saying that I know the area and its a good location.
Yes, if you know the area, I was high up on the Towie road. Still had a rise to the south and a hill to the north, with Morven to the SW, but it was the best I could do without driving for miles.

Good work Fraser. I love that mast set up on the Land Rover!
The question is have we convinced you to try some more WWFF, or better still, combine some WWFF references in with your SOTA activations?
The 44 QSO's seemed like a big ask, however it wasn't too bad.
I inadvertently activated a WWFF from the top of El Sombrero in Tenerife. I only made a dozen or so QSO's and there is no way you'd get me back up there!!
Love the mobile shack, would love a shack tour video.
OK, I could do that. Glad you enjoyed the video!

@@theradiorover
Yes, I'd like to see that as well. Particularly the telescoping mast.
@@seeharvester will do!
Great video, Fraser!

Thank you Stephan. 44! 😀
i bought the 1kw version not to clever to be fair i found it deaf on 40m and down on my cobweb 20m -10m by a few s points also being a loop it was up on noise level too compared to my cobweb too maybe conditions here but its down and stored in the shed
I am about to put this up at my home QTH. Until now I have only ever used it portable and always had decent results. I will report back.
I’ve just ordered a 1kw version would be interested in any feedback
@Cherhill well I don't think it will be as good as a cobweb, as mentioned by the chap above. I put mine up 2 days ago. It is only 5m up at the base. Facing into a wood directly to the south, big hills to the west...I'll report back!
@@theradiorover that’s great, mines in addition to a 80-10m efhw so hoping It might add something positive over that. Great video thanks for posting. Please take a look at my log to see what contacts I’ve been getting on the efhw. Peter ~ M0XCX
@@theradioroverhi there, just wondering how you’re getting on with the delta loop at you home qth? Thanks Peter
Hi Fraser, hope your well. Great video and obviously that loop worked really well for you. Cost wee set up you got there mate. 40m good here also, with lots of uk qso's in the log this week.
73 brian zl3xdj.
Thanks Brian. I don't know you do it on 40 m!! What time of day UTC is best for EU to VK and ZL?
@@theradiorover I mainly hear uk on long path greyline here. Which is around 9.30pm local time here.

Great video but whats Cb creeping in what the hell is 44
@user-tm6ru1yc4m 4/4 is a term used by the World Wide Flora and Fauna participants. I think it refers to the four corners of the earth and four elements of earth, wind, water and fire.
Glad you enjoyed it. 😊
You sounded fine to me 😂😂😂
Did we have a QSO David, or am not getting your clever wit? 😀
@@theradiorover I wish we’d had a QSO ! Just my silly wit :) , 73s G5YAX
@@davidw460 Ha!! I was 50/50 on that one...😀
hi im building a multi band delta loop i have my two 5m fibreglass poles and 66ft of wire but i hear people saying there 11ft so will i need 10m of wire for the 3 sides and cut my poles dwn to 11ft
Hi, My one certainly isn't 66' of wire. I think it less than half of that. Mine has a matching unit but it us potred and I don't know whats inside it.
I also have a wire delta loop for 15m. It's much longer and mono band.
no i want to build the one in the picture what on the van @@theradiorover i need to know the lenth of the poles and wire on yours
@austieoutdoors9763 my poles are 11' and each wire is also 11', so that is 33' of wire total.
yes thats all i wanted to know buddie thanx alot ill let you know how i get on thanx again from m7byf
@@theradiorover
What kind of mast is that holding up the loop? Looks unique? Details???
It is a Clark mast. They are a UK company that make military and civilian masts. This one is built into the vehicle and powered by an on board V-twin air pump. The Land Rover was a Police mobile command unit back in the day. www.clarkmasts.com/

Did you find this loop directional?
Geoff M0CRO
Hi Geoff, I didn't rotate it on this occasion, however the manual states that it is omni-directional. I sometes use a full size 15 m delta loop for portable work and I find that it is also omni-directional.
73, Fraser MM0EFI
Fun to hear G0RQL Don on a video that isn’t mine.
I didn't realise he chased WWFF until that point! There have been dire times on windy and wet mountain tops when I've been glad to hear his voice, get my 4 contacts and get down!
73, Fraser MM0EFI
@@theradiorover I didn't realize he chased SOTA either, but he's a regular on my POTA activations.
Don loves 2 m ssb. If there's a bit of tropo, he is always listening for me on 2 m ssb, 800 km distant. I've worked him a few times. He also listens for activators on ft8.
Hi Fraser, I'm thinking of getting one of these and I lust wondered what your experience was like with it and if you found it directional Thanks Geoff M0CRO
Hi Geoff, Believe it or not, that is the only time I have used it! It is marketed as omni-directional. I found it worked really well that day and I worked 45 stations on 40 m in an hour. I plan to put it up at home as I don't have the best garden for long wires.
73, Fraser MM0EFI
@@theradiorover Hi Fraser, thanks for the info, I'd be really interested on knowing how you get on with it when you've got it up and running at home if you could let me know. I'll give it a month or two and inbox you again
Thanks 73 Geoff
