    That is funny that the old becomes new again…as a kid learning how to tie in the 70’s when we didn’t have all the wonderful synthetic materials as we do today, rubber bands were often the best body material we had. I still tie them today and everything from bluegills to steelhead still take them. 😊

    You were talking about how often they take the indicator. Try using a floating fly with a styrofoam body as the indicator, use a heavier leader to it and use tippet material tied with an improved clinch knot to the bend of the hook and attach a wet fly to that. It lets you fish dry and wet at the same time.

      I sometimes use a Chernobyl ant as an indicator fly but I just use the same line straight through, I’ll try this next time. Thanks!

    Back when golf balls were wrapped in rubber beneath the outer coating, we used to make these and then tie them off the at the head with black thread. They worked awesome in the Colorado Rockies.

      So it's rubber. Did you guys coat them back then? The rubber would last in the water but a fish would pull it down?

    • @MarkFie-qn4pe
      @MarkFie-qn4pe 6 місяців тому +1

      @@JayLee-od8ob at first we just wrapped them and then finished with thread for a black head, after you catch a few fish it would just unwind so then we started giving them a coat of clear. They still only lasted for three or four maybe five fish so you had a tie a bunch of them if you’re at a good spot.😁😎😎

    Newt week matching the hatch at a rainbow trout fishery with the discarded floating cigarette butt, cool looking grub rubber bands are a fantastic fly tying resource.
    This is where a good waterproof jacket with a tight rod wrist guard to stop water running up your arm is good , never stop fishing in that hard rain it breaks the surface tension and allows stuff that's caught in the film to drop , May on corrib , Storr Lochs and a good number of other lochs I fish , with that kind of showers (as long as it's not in company of thunder and potential lightning ) that's when you get some heavy takes , as the heavy showers knock all the suspended emerging flies and also for the stronger flies it breaks the tension and allows them to also emerge onto the surface , buzzers, mayflies , the hatch of the moment etc but a lot of stuff gets knocked back down, under the water , all those emerging nymphs either have to make their way back to the surface or those part emerged drown and float back to the underside of the surface tension easy picking for the trout , so a fat grub arriving in amongst all that would be very attractive to a greedy trout. ,

    Stone fly nymph, turkey tail with glue wing case, dubbing thorax, hackle legs, quill tail, rubber band abdomen, on a river that’s a bit rocky. Absolutely deadly. Best fly I have in my box. Don’t need any wire, but in really fast or deep water, it’d be a good idea.

    I've tied them,they work,but they do not last very long. UV breaksdown the rubber and only after a few weeks and it falls apart,even if they're unused. It's not just a whim,it's many different brands,and even colored bands,they all fall apart. I haven't tried coating them in a UV resin,but it should help. There's also silicone bands,but I haven't tried them.

      Thanks mate! Honestly I wish I knew! The UA-cam algorithm is a tricky one, this video had performed significantly better than all of my other videos, my more recent videos are struggling :/ if I had to guess why this one has done well, I’d say that the topic of making a fly out of a rubber band is fairly unusual, the length of the video isn’t too long, the camera on the indicator was a good touch, plus some good old luck! Hope your views pick up, just a matter of time until the algorithm finds something it likes. Tight lines!

    Hi, I’m planning my first ever trip to Scotland and I’m trying to find out more about the fishing. As well as the fly fishing, are there day ticket venues for course fishing too that aren’t silly money? I was given a fly rod and reel recently fully loaded and ready to go, so I’d like to give that a go too. I’ve looked online but most places I found are too bloody expensive, granted they include being able to take two fish but I’ll be on holiday so I won’t be faffing about cooking trout. Can you recommend a good lake or two or river for cheap day ticket? Or even better .. free😊
    Cheers

    • @CJsReelAdventures
      @CJsReelAdventures  7 місяців тому

      Hi there, most trout fisheries won’t allow catch and release when using spinning gear hence why it’s more expensive as you need a kill ticket, but fishing the fly will allow you to fish catch and release making it a bit cheaper. There’s some coarse fishing but it’s all pretty poor compared to what I’ve experienced in England. The lakes and rivers in England tend to have a much greater amount of coarse species but in Scotland you could try
      forth and Clyde canal for roach, Dace, perch, pike etc - free
      Lairds loch for bream, tench, roach, Rudd - £10 a day
      Loch Lomond, massive but had a large amount of different species - £5 a day
      Orchil coarse fishery, well stocked with carp, roach, Dace, perch, etc - £10 a rod a day
      Magiscroft coarse fishery, this is the only one on this list I haven’t fished. 7 different stocked coarse fishing ponds with lots of different species - unsure the price for this one
      Most rivers and lochs in Scotland are fished for their trout, salmon and pike as they tend to be the most popular, I’m happy to help with pointing you in the right direction for them too!
      Thanks,
      CJ

      Hi there! All migratory fish in Scotland require a permit to fish for, so you’d have to get one if targeting salmon. A good site to check out is FishPal.com
      There’s lots of good fishing available on there, however a lot of the good stuff gets booked up well in advance. Different rivers also have different times of the year where the fishing is better, and some places are better fished with spinning gear. If you find a river near where you are staying I’m sure you’ll be able to find some info online about the best way to go about fishing it. Hope this is helpful and hope the procedure goes well! Let me know if you have any questions whatsoever, I’m happy to help 😊

    If you use an "indicator" to suspend a fly at a certain depth, it is a FLOAT, not an indicator.
    Flyfishers tend to say this to make themselves feel special and sophisticated.
    A bit of a laugh!

    SVP, ce qui manque a votre vidéo magnifique, c'est de ne pas avoir détailler le matériel plus précisément, car j'ai dus improviser, et je ne sais pas si mes montages vont marcher

      Honnêtement, vous pouvez utiliser à peu près n'importe quel équipement pour attacher des mouches, mais du fil non toxique, un élastique, un hameçon de n'importe quelle taille adaptée au poisson que vous recherchez avec un espace suffisamment large pour l'élastique et n'importe quel fil vous rapprochera de la mouche que j'ai fabriquée.

    Superbe idée, l'élastique pour faire une mouche noyée, je vais le faire, mais moi, je vais y ajouter une goute de vernis a ongle rouge sang pour la tète, car c'est très attractif le rouge en rivière ou en lac

      @CJsReelAdventures  8 місяців тому

      Hi! I suspect you could tie it like a booby or a fab with foam eyes or tail, or even type the foam within the body and cover with the rubber band. You can find this by googling booby foam/eyes. Hope this helps!
