For me the symbolism of the dog barking or howling I think symbolizes the outcry or awareness or a call out to the issues Adonia is trying to bring to light. Minor Detail is the perfect title because it reflects the Israeli's occupation in Palestine and not much of it get that attention globally.
The rape also draws the metaphorical political tension between both nations. It is a perfect book and I was shocked it didn't make the shortlist
This book was seemingly simple and yet exquisitely constructed. It stalked me long after I closed the book and it read like an allegory for war and a written documentary of an actual event. This was very much a Coetzee book and a raw diamond among the other nominated books.
I love this review, KD.
Thank you for the review, seems a very interesting book. I don’t know if I can stomach reading it especially with what’s with happening in Palestine right now in Hay El Garrah and twitter suspending people who are tweeting about it, and just the horrendous happenings going on in Palestine right now since the beginning of Ramadan and ofc before it. Maybe later though. Thank you :)
now it is worst :(
I’m glad you loved it. It was one of my top reads last year. The spider in the room is still an image that lives in my head. The issue of containment and all of the ways it is breached *chef’s kiss*. A remarkable book.
I loved this too and now want to reread it. The pace of it, the details of each action, the insight into the occupation, for such a slim book it’s so powerful. Great review!
Kieran! We agreed on a book! Hallelujah!
Glad you enjoyed it too. You’ve made me want to reread it and it’s only been a month since my first reading.
I loved the first part better than the second, but I think that is the beauty of this, there is something for everybody, I really hoped that this would have made it to the shortlist...
Great review! Added in my tbr, it is true as an Iranian I usually stray away from war because my parents always talked and educated me in real life BUT a 9/10 from Kieran? Must do!
A must read in my TBR list now. Thank you for the review.
Thanks for the review. I will look out for the book 👍
I just finished this book today and am still trying to digest it. 😨
Ohhhh then I am glad I got it in my kindle. Was almoooost about to give it a pass!
