Maybe that's why Arsenal's home record has been so good? Can actually say the same about Old Trafford. These mourinho days are like doing attack-practise against a bunch of defenders. Shame Sir Alex used to have such good attackers. All gone
As a young Gooner, I am upset that I never got to go to Highbury. Now with such high prices I cannot afford to go and watch us at the Emirates, would of loved to witness the famous highbury atmosphere, oh well... Once a Gunner Always a Gunner
Speaking as a Liverpool fan, of all the old stadiums Highbury is the one I miss most (the rest were largely dumps). The confined space of the pitch, the carpet like surface, marble halls, each stand unique (north bank, clock end)...the place screamed Arsenal. I hate to say it but Arsenal have lost so much of their identity. Yes the new stadium is state of the art, but it lacks character (only difference between it and Benfica's is a clock). The generic bowl design means you could be anywhere. I'm ectstatic we have remained at Anfield and just renovated the main stand...you know where you are when you are at Anfield. The four different sized stands (which compliment each other), the Kop, Shankly gates, Hillsborough memorial..even the this is Anfield sign is being kept for the tunnel entrance. Anfield, Old Trafford and Highbury were the three iconic club grounds in English football.
Ali74 if ever they try to move you into a new stadium either protest or boycott them. Never ever leave anfield. It'll be the worst mistake you'll ever make
I love how at 3:30 as soon as Martin Tyler begins speaking about Spurs possibly getting Champions League, Henry puts Arsenal ahead. Henry was just like "Spurs in Champions league? You're having a laugh!"
haha yes :D But my favourite is how he emphazizes when Henry took the penalty. First not so loud: "Whatever Thierry Henry achieves, " Then it rises: "his name will be forever associated WITH HIGHBURY!!"
So this was published 2 years ago with your conviction that Spurs would soon be in the Champions League, well they finally made it this season after being pretty mediocre in the Europa League. They soon got their arses dumped out of the Champions League and so here they go back to the Europa League next year. A very different story to that of Arsenal who have been in CL for past 16 years. This year we won our group. We are growing all the time. Oh and they are taking an age to build their stadium!
I'm a Liverpool fan and I loved Highbury, special stadium with special atmosphere for a great club, too bad they left this beautiful place, the real Arsenal remained there.
If you read my comment properly, you'd see that I said HOPEFULLY Emirates stadium will develop a special atmosphere IN TIME. I never said it had a good atmosphere already.
It was necessary to build a new stadium, they could not renovate Highbury which was in the middle of a residential area... It was necessary to build a new stadium for economic needs, to be able to generate more income from the link industry, a modern stadium with current standards... And no the Emirates Stadium will never have the atmosphere of Highbury, but it was a necessity, and Arsenal remained in north London.
but we'd still have World Class players cuz there'd be no stadium debt to balance, and ultimately its a situation where the fans don't like the ticket prices but wouldn't mind it if we were still winning things and were successful.
No, I don;t think so. Football changed after we built Emirates, it's not our fault we had to sell to manage that debt for a while. We're very strong financially now, I don;t fear Sanchez or Ozil leaving in the summer, more likely we'll keep adding every year to what we've got.
How can you call the Emirates Stadium soulless? Are you for real? There have been some great memories at the Emirates so far. Arsenal needed the upgrade. No big club plays in a small stadium like Highbury.
This sends shivers down my spine. I'm Italian and Roma fan, but Arsenal it's my foreign favourite club ever. What a team those years (Bergkamp, Henry, Pires, Ljunberg, Campbell and so on). Wish I could turn back time and be in Highbury for just a moment. Go Gunners!
I am from Brazil and i'm a Flamengo fan, so i know what it's like for a team to have such a deep connection with a stadium, and it's just wonderful. But i remember that back in 2004, i was starting to like football and my dad had just put cable tv in our home. So the first international game i ever watched was an Arsenal game, i don't remember exactly against who, but i remember Arsenal won by a landslide. As always, Henry gave a show on how to be one of the best strikers of all time, and the game was on Highbury. The energy from the crowd, that amazing team with Henry, Pires, Touré, Reyes, Fabregas, Lehmann, i fell in love with Arsenal, and it was an emotional moment when they abandoned that stadium to Emirates. 12 years later, i still care so much for Arsenal, as much as i care for Flamengo, my country team. We are 4 points behind of the leader on the league table with 7 matches left to the end of the league, and we are playing one of the biggest classics in the country against Corinthians, and the Maracanã will be reopened today after one long year, and the line between these two moments is really thin and blurry, one of the reasons i identify so much with Arsenal. 70000 people screaming in passion, being brought back home. Just like Arsenal, the passion, the greed to win big matches, that's why i love Arsenal. 12 years later, Arsenal still has my heart.
Victor Montel : Victor my brother. I'm Adam Ntini in South Africa. This player, Thierry Henry made fell in love with Arsenal fc. Wherever he goes, I follow his progress. Even today I'm still an Arsenal n Henry supporter.
I'm a Villa fan and I was fortunate enough to see Villa play at Highbury a number of times over the years. I saw great wins and big defeats for my club there but it was always one of my favourite away trips. A proper football stadium. Great atmosphere, supporters close to the pitch and one of those grounds that really looked beautiful under the floodlights. Sadly missed.
I'm a Wigan fan from a young kid in the 90's, I'm willing to bet I've been to more football grounds than anyone in the comments section. Went home & away season after season with one of my uncles & his mates, been everywhere watching them.

I am a Manchester United fan for me Highbury was just an incredible stadium and I have always admired Arsenal's style of play and I admire that they are doing things the right way and not doing what City n Chelsea are doing. Arsenal were a class act at Highbury shame they couldn't end the 2005-2006 season with a Trophy Parade. I think that Henry was one player we will never see again in the premier league wish United bought him he would of been amazing. Highbury an incredible stadium shame it had to go. IF they had won a trophy that season say the Premiership it would of been the perfect send off
Thanks for showing some respect, I generally dislike united but they brought themselves from the ground up with a great manager where as city and chelsea bought their titles
My first game watching Arsenal was in 1974 against Leeds, I've still got the program. I was 6 and my dad had me on his shoulders in the north bank. 46 years later, i have a cupboard full of programs and a lot of good memories. I miss the old Highbury, it was a very beautiful football ground. I feel like my home has been demolished.
Love Highbury, such a beautiful stadium. Wish they had kept it part of the club somehow, using it as a training ground or something, play the odd friendly there
@@Jim-so3zm I don't know how people like you state things wrongly but do so with such confidence. Henry had a goal ratio of 0.68 in the PL and Shearer had 0.50. Also, Henry didn't take all the pens (Shearer did) and Henry played his first season on the wing and he got 10-25 assists a season.

Had that video lasted much longer, I would have teared up. I am sick at how soul-less, corporate and money-grabbing The Arsenal has become. Cashburton is filled with Tarquins and tourists. Even our manager turned into a dictator after the sacking of Dein and refused to spend the money that was always there (the austerity was a lie) and is stuck in his ways, obsessed with his vanity projects and is now committed to awful sideways football and even worse defending. Now we bottle it season after season under a manager who won't realize his time is long over and are stuck with a disinterested owner (and puppet board) who only cares for money and won't make a change. Where did our Arsenal go? It was abandoned with Highbury.
i will do anything to go back in time n go to this special place. I'm a big arsenal supporter from America n I've been to emirates stadium before. During the Highbury years, I was in high school so I didn't have money to go to UK that time. I cried when I saw this game on TV.
I'm a Manchester United fan but I have to say that the spirit of Arsenal died along with this beautiful stadium. Emirates is mothing but just a producr of money which sucks honestly.
Tell that to West Ham now. EVERY West Ham fan would give their right arm to back in the Bearpit that was Upton Park rather than the sanitised and soulless Athletics Track they now call "home"
They shouldn’t knock down these old grounds even if the team is moving like they could let another club use it, it’s a shame to lose the old grounds with so much history
Sad that the promise of moving away from this beautiful gem to that stale oval was the ability to sign players, and still 10 years on there's been no equivalent of the team that went to the CL final that season, or the invicibles a few seasons before that, with Henry, Bergkamp, Pires, Vieira, Campbell, Cole, Ljundberg, Fabregas, Van Persie, etc. There's hardly a player from today's teams that you would take over any of the players from back then. Even Özil and Sanches would have a hard time replacing Bergkamp, Ljundberg, etc. of back then. What a travesty.
+Ghostface Muslim Highbury, as fantastic as it was, was just too small and outdated. While the Emirates doesn't have the same mystique that Highbury had, it is larger, much more efficient, and will help Arsenal to reach greater heights as a club.
Its December 2019 and Arsenal is currently on their worst losing streak for 42 years. Watching some old Arsenal games to remember that Arsenal used to bring me a lot of joy 😥
What a crazy game this was. Last match at Highbury, we needed a result to beat Spurs to fourth. And it all just fell into place. Henry hatrick, clinched a champions league spot from Spurs. What a magnificent send off to the true home of Arsenal Football Club.

2004-2006. Reyes went to Athletico Madrid on loan in 2006-07 and He never went back to Arsenal.
From a Liverpool supporter ... there’s something about Henry in an Arsenal shirt scoring at Highbury. Top player
ffs why couldn't we just like extend Highbury
LOL come on man
Permit issues
Landlocked by housing, same as QPR's loftus road.
i was in the north bank for this game about 12 rows back right behind the goal with my best mate ben i was 16 what a day it was pure love on everyones face we stayed after the ceremony for about and hour going back an forth chanting with the east bank! we're the NORTH BANK HIGHBURY!!!!!!
It was abandoned with Highbury.
well said
it just shows how much superficial is your understanding of Arsenal.
WELL PUT. YOU ARE EXACTLY RIGHT IN EVERYTHING YOU HAVE SAID. SADLY.....
I was there, Wigan fan. Brought myself some souvieners back home with me.
Woah, we were really close to the Europa League before we were Europa-League standard
I remember this like it was yesterday. I was 19 working at a bookies William hill when this game was taking place. We were a proper team then.
As a Spurs fan, the Gunners should’ve never left Highbury
i will do anything to go back in time n go to this special place. I'm a big arsenal supporter from America n I've been to emirates stadium before. During the Highbury years, I was in high school so I didn't have money to go to UK that time. I cried when I saw this game on TV.
love this video, love Thierry, love the crowd. glory is to come, we just have to be patient gooners
The more years pass by, the bigger realization comes how memorable these moments are!
haha
totenham is always under our shadow
arsenal are shit but hibury was a lot better than Emirates
+Nicholas Kaoney Mate both your comments is irrelevant. LOL. I mean tottenham is irrelevant. lol
+Nicholas Kaoney WHAT DO WE THINK OF TOTTENHAM AYE (SHIT WHAT DO WE THINK OF SHT TOTTENHAM!)
+Jasper Jefferies Tottenham are fucking shit there wankers
+InvisibleYetVisible Spurs win the title funny.
Didn't even play in Red and White. Can't stand new ground, last time I went got thrown out against Newcastle. Fever Pitch for me, Clockend Boys.
Arsenal played in Highbury on the invincible season...What a great memory..
I'm a Manchester United fan but I have to say that the spirit of Arsenal died along with this beautiful stadium. Emirates is mothing but just a producr of money which sucks honestly.
Stop blaming the stadium. Many top teams change venues (Bayern, Juventus, etc.) without dropping their quality. It's the management the one at fault.
Schyderap the stadium they built isnt fan friendly
Tell that to West Ham now. EVERY West Ham fan would give their right arm to back in the Bearpit that was Upton Park rather than the sanitised and soulless Athletics Track they now call "home"
Grew up supporting Arsenal at Highbury. Classic, immense stadium! We were literally invincible!
They shouldn’t knock down these old grounds even if the team is moving like they could let another club use it, it’s a shame to lose the old grounds with so much history
True
We moved from Highbury, which was similar to Anfield, but there was a soul in the stadium.
- Arsene Wenger
Back when you could actually afford to go regularly without skipping a meal
Sad that the promise of moving away from this beautiful gem to that stale oval was the ability to sign players, and still 10 years on there's been no equivalent of the team that went to the CL final that season, or the invicibles a few seasons before that, with Henry, Bergkamp, Pires, Vieira, Campbell, Cole, Ljundberg, Fabregas, Van Persie, etc. There's hardly a player from today's teams that you would take over any of the players from back then. Even Özil and Sanches would have a hard time replacing Bergkamp, Ljundberg, etc. of back then. What a travesty.
10 years later........
What an iconic stadium 😢... Really money destroyed football
Arsenal is not Arsenal anymore without Good ol Highbury. Don`t know why we ever left that Stadium. The biggest mistake ever.
I think it got too old and Fly Emirates had a deal with them for a new stadium.
Watching some old Arsenal games to remember that Arsenal used to bring me a lot of joy 😥
feel sorry for them, so much hope then but still no EPL trophy at the Emirates
What a crazy game this was. Last match at Highbury, we needed a result to beat Spurs to fourth. And it all just fell into place. Henry hatrick, clinched a champions league spot from Spurs. What a magnificent send off to the true home of Arsenal Football Club.
Arsenal’s soul is left at Highbury
Much better than the soulless championship free bowl they've moved to.
RIP Reyes 🙏🏼❤️
Leaving our home stadium is a very emotional moments for fans as well as players
