@@ryanbeaty4893 nobody says that we should throw the whole person away. But at the end of the day people who don't respect boundaries can't expect to have many friends or support in their lives. If someone doesn't take advantage of that then it tells me a lot about that person. Of course not everyone can afford professional help but there are ways of saying "I want to change". Manipulating and abusing people doesn't show you want to change. People have a right to distance themselves from hurt and abuse.

Thomas Edison didn't invent anything, he employed "Assistants" that invented things (like the incandescent light) then filed the patents under his name thus taking full credit for them.
He still came up with the initial idea. So they are still his inventions, even if others built the prototype for him. Hell, I have ideas for things, but don't have the know-how to build them or get backing for them, so would need to get others to do it for me. But I would still take patents on it, and pay the people who worked on it, because they did a job for me, but it was my idea, initially.
Edison killed an elephant too. And Louie LaPrince, the real father of moving pictures, disappeared from a train and Edison magically ends up with Louie’s inventions.

The funny thing about Aristotle's beliefs about women being incomplete men is that, genetically, the opposite is true. Plus John Lennon was horrible to his son, Julian, walked out on him, cut him out of his will, and it took Paul McCartney to write a song to comfort Julian ("Hey Jude"), about his parents' divorce, instead of, maybe Julian's OWN FATHER writing it. Lennon also gave a lot of his fortune to Sean in his will, who he had with Yoko Ono, and Julian got nothing.

Dawkins is right - people (I mean *any* people, people who aren't *someone*) complain about their emotional problems as if they were the most important thing on earth - while other people in other parts of the world would be glad to be even allowed so much as to voice their grievances without fear of their health, safety and even lives.
He confuses me. Evolutionary speaking it's survival of the fittest. Self Importance is a natural attribute we have, that is why humbleness and charity must be taught at home during those delightful early years.Yet, he throws his theory out the window to make someone feel bad for caring for themselves Maybe he really was a bit more of a genius, maybe a little pscyhopathic
Bohemian Rhapsody I am not talking about legitimate grief, I am talking about "emotional problems" of the kind where people complain that they are stressed out and "traumatized" because they didn't get their accustomed seat in a restaurant or because they had to wait 20 minutes for their taxi to arrive or because someone talked back to them at a parents' meeting - that sort of thing. These people need a hefty dose of reality.
Edison didn't just electrocute puppies, he also electrocuted an elephant in public (video available on UA-cam of the atrocity) and, more importantly, invented the electric chair. He didn't invent it as a humane means of electrocution, he invented it as a bloody awful way to die in order to trash A.C. Had the very same argument with a friend regarding John lennon. He was in complete denial about the severity of his actions towards women, tried to feebly defend and was clearly put out by this "inconvenient truth". A classic case of not wanting to accept something simply because they liked their music. Which is preposterous as they are different subjects. Just because you like someone's music doesn't mean you have to be in denial about someone's flaws or criminality or true character.
True that. I had heard the rumors for years that John Lennon basically would SA a girl before going on stage to calm the nerves.....and don't get me started on Jimmy Page. Lol
@@pedrovoss862 He was wildly hypocritical. He kept a temperature-controlled room in the Dakota Hotel (one of the most expensive in New York) purely for the purpose of storing his fur coats. John Lennon was all about humanitarian thoughts but in addition to hitting women he treated his oldest son as if he didn't exist & was usually mean to people in person.
John was mad at the world since his mother's senseless death when he was 17. He held it inside and it ate at him for over a decade till he wrote "Julia" in tribute to her. When he smiled at the nation on the Ed Sullivan show, I bet he was thinking of her. Anyhow, as much as I despise Yoko, I have to give her credit for making him face reality about her. Cynthia wasn't a strong enough woman. In his last days, he was the happiest he'd ever been, according to Yoko, and a fan witnessed the encounter between him and Mark Chapman. She said John couldn't have been any nicer to him. So sad for a man to get shot 5 times in the back after he'd turned his life around.
HOW, is asking someone to come back to their room '' sexism ''? If he had DEMANDED it, or freaked out on her for saying no, then yes. But simply asking isn't sexist........ Even if he had said it flat out '' Do you want to sleep with me? ''. That STILL wouldn't have been sexist o.O...
Kolsyrad Mcluvin Turns out the elevator guy was gay, and was just a fan who was a bit awkward in social skills. Watson drew the wrong conclusion and became a star because of it.
Kolsyrad Mcluvin Not sure how it's sexist or even harassment. Asking a woman out, to have a drink or come back to your room, it's a proposition. If the woman says no and the man repeatedly asks or pressures the woman, then yes that is harassment. Watson is just a dipshit attention seeker.
Kolsyrad Mcluvin Apparently, someone's emotional reaction to the proposition is all that's required to make it sexist and harassment (according to femanazis). And calling it out like this will make us "horrible people". This video is a f&%$ing joke.

To be fair to Newton, the scientific community in his day was essentially like the modern blogosphere. You should try reading about what Darwin had to put up with in his day.
Newton just wanted to be alone. And - he very reluctantly published at the insistence of those who knew his work by letters, and when he did he took great offense at the many trolls and credit claims by those he left behind - there were a lot of those.
You missed a classic example: Richard Wagner. In addition to inventing music drama, he had affairs with other men's wives and wrote a nasty anti-Semitic tract which influenced Hitler, who was a great fan of his work. A thoroughly disagreeable character.
Was just wondering as all I see on social media, documentaries and even interviews of Jews who escaped the holocaust saying that he was a music genius, even though they didn't agree with his sentiments about eugenics or whatever hatred he was spewing. I dont actually like any of his music. It's all too simplistic and I dont hear anything unique about it. He could have been mother Theresa and I'd still hate the music...
The Dawkins bit baffled me - it seemed more like some kind of personal attack by Simon Whistler. He can be controversial on Twitter, but I certainly wouldn't regard him as anything like a terrible person.
Can you imagine being the first soldier having to tell his commander he discovered the picture of Henry Ford in Hitlers' office hanging in a place of honor?
It probably wouldnt have been that suprising considering he already had car plants in Nazi Germany and 20 years before WW2 wrote a series of antisemantic books.
If Tesla had kid or a wife we wouldn't have the technology we have today. He dedicated 100% of his life to science, he even reduced sleeping and eating to minimum. His mind and visions were above the average, so i am not surprised that you view him as horrible person. :)
Your comment suggests your comprehension for why Tesla is on the list is ZERO. Ironic considering we're talking about intelligence here. (Hint: Tesla is not on the list because he didn't have a family.)
+Danilo Novakovic .. Looks like you missed the part about Tesla trying to play God in eugenics, that's a dangerous thing to bring to humanity, it could have far reaching devestaions & unimagined unforeseen harm wrought upon the population at large ..
What did Tesla actually DO about eugenics? Please pay homage to Tesla by not reproducing. Could have, might have been... I guess all you know about Tesla is what you overheard in this video. You didn't even pay attention. Or describe just how Tesla was "trying to play God".
Agree with Tesla feel not everyone should breed. He was brilliant for not breeding. Yes, he was a genius but, it came at a high cost with his OCD, visions and so on. He knew he might pass that on to a child. It's wise not horrible. Now, he's eugenics stand not sure how deep that goes. But, not horrible for pointing that out. Disney belonged in this video more than Tesla. George Westinghouse Jr however, an example of an amazing human. Inventor. Far better than Edison. We should talk about him more as a example. Successful and kind.
Also Tesla was not proven wrong yet. This could very well happen by 21st century esp if we have problems with overpopulation and resources running out. Remember that movie Gattaca? Great sci fi. People just don't realize how great the world is right now, and take far too much for granted.

John Lennon was not a horrible person. Neither is Richard Dawkins. They had/have friends and meant a lot to a lot of people and their contributions immeasurable. There place in history is set. They may not be flawless they are after all human and therefore changing and dealing with imperfection but they are worthy of admiration and have made a very positive influence. People aren't doing bad things because of them on the contrary they have inspired much good.
scotty I guess you see things differently to me. For me, If a persons beats a person they're meant to love then they're a BAD person, not just "flawed" like you put it, despite other things they may have achieved.
Ragsy x I never heard of Cynthia, Yoko, or May speak of being beat up by John. I heard of Hendrix and Brian Jones hitting women, Brian Jones apparently habitually, but nothing like that about John. I'd say back in the 50's it might have been more common there's that Billy Holiday song about it, it was way back when, it was also during what would have been John's adolescence. The only evidence of John hitting that I'm aware of is by his own confession and his first girl friend saying he hit here just once when she wouldn't put out so she split it off. He didn't rape her or beat her up, and there are plenty of girls who've been slapped by lovers or friends during the turmoils of a stressed relationship. I'm not proud of his behavior he wasn't either he'd said he'd changed and he was one of the first men to come out for women's rights and to strive to change how women where being treated. Perhaps he felt bad about it. Then again there's nothing from any of his long term relationships nor anything from anyone else who might have witnessed something. Nothing from his kids, friends, colleges or acquaintances. If it's true and to the extent you may imagine it it is a sad thing but it doesn't diminish the great things he did for everyone and he has made the world a whole lot better for many of us.

Hmm the not so little rant about Dawkins makes me think the person or persons behind this list have taken some kind of personal dislike to Dawkins and allowed that to skew their choices for the list. So we're basically just getting an opinion. One that's really not worth anything more than any other in the comments below and we all know how worthless youtube comments are.
Alex Wilson Perhaps you should try giving objective opinions rather than biased ones, if you think all opinions are biased. Never heard of an objective opinion? Don't understand the concept of being fair in your assessments of people? Not all opinions are biased.
Eugenics huh. Yes, well, looking at the world today, I'd say Tesla was on the right track. That would solve allot of the worlds problems. That thought has crossed my mind too. If humanity is to survive as a species for the next thousand years, we really need to do something about this "stupid" gene.
Eugenics is terrible though I do agree that stupid people shouldn't breed BECAUSE their bullshit often becomes the mindset of their children. Times that mindset by hundreds of thousands and good god.
People talk about eugenics like it's the same thing as racism. Also, people get surprised he didn't reproduced, he didn't saw himself fit to reproduce, smart or not he had his quirks he didn't wanted to pass on. For the record, Robert Hooke was as bad as Isaac Newton when it came to arguing and bickering. Also, Hooke contributed in many different fields; elsewhere in physics we have Hooke's law, which relates the force due to the displacement of a spring under ideal circumstances, he observed cells with a microscope, was a proponent of evolution, suggested the wave theory of light, and on and on and on. It's a shame Hooke and Newton weren't better people.
People throw that term around so often, I'm not even sure what it means socially. Like, I know the definition of the word, but when a word is used regularly to describe anyone with talent, it kinda takes on a new meaning. I dunno why 'talented' is seen as a lesser tern to describe someone who is... talented?? Or creative? Or prodigious? Maybe it's nitpicky, but it does lessen the power of that word when it's used to describe everyone who has done something impressive, regardless of true societal impact.
Have no idea who Pat Robetson is. It is a very prejuidice book, it says blacks are evolved from apes and it encourages insulting religion, which actually has morals. Fred Phelps was smarter than any scientist could be, p.s. homophobia isn't discrimination.
Varon Cook Dawkins, and other New Atheists, claim that religious belief motivated the 9/11 terrorists. There. Counter that in 4 sentences or more if you want.
Virginia Wolfe and Tesla would agree. I think this video thoroughly illustrated how snobs, particularly intellectual snobs, can be worst kind of people.
Eugenics was supported by the US government and enforced by law. Calling out Tesla on that specifically is kind of ridiculous when it was so widely supported.
+Prince Mononoke My point is that calling out Tesla for that instead of calling out all of America for it is stupid, if you are going to call someone horrible for something in particular, it should probably be something that is unique to them, not something that existed as a norm in their society.
***** But if you look at the votes for and against on most normal youtube videos, you'll see that once you've shown enough interest in a subject to click on a video, it must be something you're a fan of. Very few videos will get a 44% negative vote. And majority rules doesn't mean they're right. If that was the case then teenage girls' opinion on Justin Bieber would mean that he's probably better than Rossini or Mozart.
Is popularity reflected in the amt of views, or the percent of those that voted on it positively? I think most people should know by now how randomly people use superlatives in youtube videos. As in "The funniest prank ever" etc etc. The very phrase "Top Ten" has a superlative implied on an ongoing basis. Also, eugenics still gets a bad press to this day. If you had the male with the highest IQ in the same room as the female with the highest IQ I think they should have a kid together. The resultant human could well have the highest IQ yet known. Who knows what benefit to mankind he could deliver. And Socrates couldn't have beaten Aristotle to the punch at anything. He just died about 15 years b4 Aristotle was born, which is not the same thing. Btw, what country do you come from? I can't quite place the accent. My guess is Australia.
I don't even understand what the thumbs up or the thumbs down vote actually means. Does it mean you don't like the video because you think the content is inaccurate or does it mean you think the quality of the video was poor or does it mean you don't think the video was helpful or relative to the title? It's not a decent barometer of anything.
Eugenics in Tesla's time was like transhumanism is today. So that's unfair. Also saying someone is a horrible person because he never married (and possibly never got laid) is kind of mean.

I am not irrational because I believe that something exists that we can't understand on a scientific level. He was no saint, but then he never claimed to be one of those did he? I don't believe that man has the capacity to disprove the existance of the super-natural, how can anyone prove that something does NOT exist? I only challenged you (or anyone else) to prove the existence of the supernatural in response to your assertion that - "Believing that man posesses the capacity to disprove the existence of the supernatural is very irrational". I don't care if you believe in the tooth fairy, but when you try to characterise your belief as just as valid and deserving of just as much respect as knowledge derived from rigorous, empirical scientific observation, then I feel you should be challenged. It is obvious you should not steal, kill or be cruel. Many seem to be unaware of this. And if you think my comment was so obvious- then yay you. Then my comment was not aimed for you.
+James Carter , so what's YOUR take on morality, then? is it something like,"...we're all good and bad, so why not just do what YOU feel, and party on!"...but that's also the terrorist with a bomb belt string of thought of,"...happily ever after!"... No one is perfect, but there must be rules, or shall we let every killer interpret themselves into "The Good Guy" ? How do your mind function then, lets say if another person with another perspective then you, bomb the location you sat in, and you ended up disfigured and in bed with only your eyes and brain in function? Would you understand the terrorist point of view, and just say inside your head,"Well, shit happens..." ? If a friend of you were killed, wouldn't you feel the moral responsibility to seek justices over that evil deed?...or just another,"Well, shit happens...", and walked away?
Lennon's woman-beating wasn't a secret to any half-hearted Beatles' fan: he talked about it openly in his lyrics. In "You Can't Do That" he threatens to knock the girl out if she is unfaithful. In "Run For Your Life" he literally says he will kill her. In their later 'peace & love' days he changes his tune so to speak, in his lyrics: "I used to be cruel to my woman, I beat her and kept her apart from the things that she loved... man I was mean but I'm changing my scene, and I'm doing the best that I can". It is his past that he attributes to his attitude towards peace and love, sort of a change of perspective from a life that he deeply regretted. He wasn't exactly a hypocrite; he was open about it and did not return to those ways.
Lennon was far more than just a woman-beater. I've had to do a lot of research on the Beatles and from what I've seen he was a horrible person hiding behind a facade. He really only cared about himself and nobody else, he was both a horrible father and husband, he was incredibly competitive to the point where he would even down-talk his own friends just to feel beter about himself, He felt artistically superior to just about everyone and he was naive as all hell. But he was just about the most loved person on the planet, so why would the media care, right? Hell, I'm pretty sure the man was a complete psychopath, but he hid it so well, nobody ever noticed.
Oh yes, and when he says "You better hide your head in the sand, little girl..." he's actually telling a female toddler to literally put her head inside sand so no one can see it. And "that's the end" LITERALLY LITERALLY LITERALLYLITERALLY means "I am going to murder a girl for being with another man"; it couldnt POSSIBLY mean "that's the end of our relationship," or something similar because then I wouldnt have anything cool to talk about at parties! I context do good. Either listen to "Run for Your Life" again or look up the word "literally." Oh, yeah. Also, "Im gonna let you down, and leave you flat" LITERALLY means he's going to run a girl over with a bulldozer. Wow.
Coca-Cola® Official Maybe he was a pretty shitty guy and a "psychopath" and yes that would disappointment me, but the misinterpretation of those particular lyrics bug me more. I'm more butt-hurt about people confusing their own "critical thinking skills" with their misunderstanding of art in general.
Excuse my naïveté ee, but I always thought leaving someone flat, was just an expression, meaning walking out on someone.. May I refer to Chad and Jeremy's song lyrics, from Evil Hearted Me: " I don't care if she leaves me flat! I've got forty-seven others, if it comes to that." Clearly, he isn't saying that he wouldn't care if she ran him over with a bulldozer. I suppose that the original poster believes that Gilbert O'Sullivan's Clare, is really about pedophiliac sex with a three-year-old.
The criticism of Dawkins seemed purely vindictive / personal. He told one Rebecca Watson to complain less and now he's the worse person in the world? Plus that lady wrote a book called "I want sex, he wants french fries" complaining about men with low testosterone / not getting enough sex. So she complains about a man asking her out and also complains about not getting enough sex? How can any guy win in that situation?
Dawkins' comment was blown WAY out of proportion. Sometimes people get caught up in the first world. He was simply trying to remind people of the horrors that take place overseas and that some people have it 100x worse.
Why do you act as if Titanic and Avatar are the only noteworthy films by James Cameron? He made The Terminator, Aliens, The Abyss, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, and True Lies as well.
You pick on Dawkins and make no mention of Wagner, a despicable man if there ever was one. Your list has no validity other than being just a personal 'people I don't like'.
Pick on Dawkins? Sexism is not ok. If he was being harassed by a gay man and than told by that man your opinions on harassment are not important, how would he feel?
Genius is a word we use to describe people we find particularly gifted. Just because you want its use to be restricted to people who do well on a test measuring intellect, that is your problem. The word predates the test, and has a far longer history of being used to describe people of unique artistic talent.
I've always read Norwegian Wood this way: Lennon goes home with a girl who doesn't put out so when he wakes up he makes a fire out of her furniture. I always preferred Paul anyway.
hahaha... Lennon was weird, abusive towards women and in fact was a hard core communist.... think about his song "Imagine"... it's about a communist world...
You cannot expect that people that are trascendentally exceptional in one aspect must be exceptional in all other aspects at all moments during their lifes. They are humans after all. Also, their "sins" should be put within the historical context because their achievements were significant within their historical context.
I am not excusing anyone nor qualifying anyone as good or as bad. What I am saying is that it is impossible to excel at everything at all times. Amso the most common thing is to find assholes without "superpowers" everywhere ...hence, you have to expect that superheroes must be assholes in other aspects of their life ...and if you put that in the right frame of reference you will be able to judge more adequately.
No, John never mugged anyone, nor instigated a fight. He fought cos he had to in that tough town he grew up in. So sad that in his last days, Yoko says he was the happiest he'd ever been and vowed to never again be rude to fans and to be the father to Sean that he himself never had. If he was alive today, I think he'd be a very happy grampa and might still be making music.
+Martin de Lange The problem is that almost everybody, at some point in their life, needs to draw some inspiration from another person's triumph over adversity. Can you manage to use their story without putting them on a pedestal? Do we 'need them on that pedestal?' I'm actually asking the question, because I like the idea of heroes, but I have a hard time excusing nasty behavior.
+Martin de Lange If you can, but to feel that inspirational fire, you have to identify with the source, and in doing so, you will likely forge an emotional bond with the person(s) that inspire you. To quote Admiral Ackbar, "It's a trap!"
Kind of... don't use top tens to interpret history though, or you're in for a lot of embarrassing conversations with people who actually know a thing or two. (this video paints a wildly inaccurate picture of most of the people in it)
Your criticism of Dawkins is astoundingly shallow and poorly researched. Even if what you said were the whole story, it hardly qualifies him as a "shockingly horrible person." Not only did Dawkins apologize about trivializing by comparison (he's written a whole article about it actually) but Rebecca Watson's incident hardly qualifies as harassment or sexism of any kind. She was simply propositioned, and in what sounds like a pretty polite manner. Harassment is a problem, yes, but simply propositioning someone doesn't qualify - particularly in a polite manner (which "asking up for coffee" certainly seems to qualify). Are we just supposed to stop ever pursuing people we find attractive? I guarantee you if Watson had found that man attractive and wanted to have sex with him that she never would have complained about it. This fanatical feminism stuff is going way too far.
The random guy asked her if she wanted coffee, which is a little weird, yeah he was proposition her in a subtle way but that's it. She went on to claim this was proof that there is a huge problem with sexism in the athiest community. First off it was one guy asking a question second there isn't any evidence that he was even at the hotel to attend the athiest conference. She and others had been at the bar drinking si was the guy. He was probably drunk and was a little bold. That is no reason to get all whiney and throw a whole community under the bus.
Basically correct. However, there is a huge problem with sexism in the atheist community, that much is undeniable. I thought the case mentioned here was pretty much a non-event, but when Dawkins chose to retweet a video by Sargon of Akkad, who is basically a human cesspool of misogyny and vitriol, that was kind of devastating for me as a huge fan of Dawkins. He had the sense to delete the tweet, but much of the damage had been done. For an example of the sort of misogyny and vitriol I'm talking about, check out the comment by Attilla above.
Buffoon1980 sorry but third wave femenism has no point, no real battle. All i see them bring up is false facts and victim mentality. I feel like a victim and I'm offended so pay attention to me.
Taylor Smith Uh, okay then. I didn't actually mention 'third wave feminism', or feminism at all. I don't care what your views on feminism are, Sargon of Akkad is an utterly contemptible individual, that much should be clear to anyone. *Should* be clear... sadly, it doesn't seem to be, given how much of a fanbase he has. It should also be clear that he, along with a depressing number of prominent UA-cam atheists, have devoted themselves to disproving your assertion that third wave feminism has no real battle.
+Mike D They are not wrong. This happens in nature everywhere. The weak and sickly are the ones picked off by predators, thus strengthening the herd. Also notice that it's not the weak and sickly that are selected to reproduce in nature. So while the view is cold and heartless, it's also logical, and the way mother nature does business.
Apart from the idea short-sighted and flawed, exactly how would that idea be implemented? It's one thing to promote something in theory, but how would it transition into realistic practice? By governmental force? Yeah, that sounds ideal. Also, learn the difference between "genotype" and "phenotype" There's a difference between being genetically "inferior", and being born with a rare cognitive or physical impairment. You can't predict the latter.
+James Michael Except, if you researched your theory better, that's law in primitive herds (as in animals), meaning the logic is primitive. Now, while humans are considered "animals", they stand head and shoulders above the rest in their own sub-species category. Humans developed their own evolutionary differences in living and consumption. While animals hunt for food, humans are social beings for survival, seeing as how humans now are agrarian traders, not predators. We trade and exchange ideas for survival, not hunt for survival.
RageAgainstTraditionalUS While some of us consider the human animal more advanced since we don't hunt in packs, survival of the fittest still applies. This is why the internet loves stories of the two people with Down's syndrome who hook up and find love. Because this is far and away not the norm. Even us advanced humans still seek out the genetically superior for procreation, even if those traits are geared towards garnering wealth rather than killing more and larger animals.
as far as Richard dawkins, I feel that while he may have been out of line, Rebecca Watson has a history of overreacting to trivial things and outright lying about others in order to push her narrative

How the hell can you defend such a horrible person as Rebecca Watson?!? She could be on the list, but certainly far from genius. Totally disagree with your choice to include Richard Dawkins in your list. He's one for calling out the bullshit in the world, not causing it. I can't believe you give validity and credence to the elevator incident - which was absolute nonsense.
I know! Guy in an elevator: Hey, would you like to come up to room fro a coffee? Rebecca Watson: How dare you ask me such a vile and abhorrent question like that! Later on the internet,,, Rebecca Watson: ...And then, he asked if I wanted coffee! (hysterical sobbing)
What I find funny is that he actually went about it the right way and politely asked for consent. How can feminists argue with that? He did exactly what they push for so much. They're truly delusional.
Sure the elevator thing was blown way out of proportion (women are supposed to be sexually liberated but this man can't even ask if she wants 'coffee' in the most polite way?), but that's just her being a whiny little bitch on youtube for a minute. Don't think she really predicted the video becoming a big thing.. Long story short, she's not necessarily horrible for being a bit snappy one afternoon.. Unless you had other instances of her being horrible in mind, that is? I'm entirely behind Dawkins though in that if someone's willing to spend all their jargon and regime flavour on this, surely the other objects of it can't be that important to her..
I like how they pointed out the similarities between John Lennon and Chris Brown while also mentioning how differently they've been treated in the media.
He left out something else that made Lennon despicable . Lennon also neglected his first son, Jullian from his previous marriage in favor of the child he had with Yoko, which left emotional scars that his son still carries today .

@@RageyRage82 There are many things that must not be tolerated; abuse, racism, violent crime, etc. But throwing away a whole person because of their worst part is counterproductive.
We are all flawed and some worse than others. Some of those awful people do wonderful things and some wonderful people do awful things. Society's inability to think more complexly about this is why we end up disappointed so often with people we think highly of.
Best to you.
Sometimes recognizing our own faults, especially the ones we consciously conceal, can help us understand the faults that drive other people.
@@ryanbeaty4893 nobody says that we should throw the whole person away. But at the end of the day people who don't respect boundaries can't expect to have many friends or support in their lives. We all have a personal responsibility to treat others the way we want to be treated. If they really wanted to make an effort there is professional help out there. If someone doesn't take advantage of that then it tells me a lot about that person. Of course not everyone can afford professional help but there are ways of saying "I want to change". Thomas Edison didn't invent anything, he employed "Assistants" that invented things (like the incandescent light) then filed the patents under his name thus taking full credit for them.
US people often claim Edison invented the incandescent filament light. Swan had it working practically before Edison.
That's a bit like saying amazing architecture should be credited to the construction workers who built it.
Not true
Yeah, but the general attitude in the US and also in Asia is - praise the victor, and someone who has made business out of it, means are forgotten.
Edison killed an elephant too. And Louie LaPrince, the real father of moving pictures, disappeared from a train and Edison magically ends up with Louie’s inventions.
The elephant is the most known, I hadn't known he killed dogs too.

@@robertgary3561 it's been awhile since read about it but it was Tesla who claimed that Edison said he'd pay $50K to the assistant who made his dynamo more efficient. When Tesla succeeded and asked for the $ Edison told him it was a joke. It's the reason Tesla quit working for Edison.
Don't forget Edison was a Satanist. Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but it's still worse than stealing ideas.

Ludicrous retelling of the Dawkins example. Thumbs down.
***** So is Dawkins...
llaauuddrruupp Did Dawkins apologize?
Herotruth No, he defended himself. Rightfully so.
It says more about the person compiling the list than Dawkins himself, in my opinion.
grizzham8 dawkins is /was a psychotic drunk.
You missed a classic example: Richard Wagner. In addition to inventing music drama, he had affairs with other men's wives and wrote a nasty anti-Semitic tract which influenced Hitler, who was a great fan of his work. A thoroughly disagreeable character.
Blake Morris but not an all time worst
Was just going to say they left Wagner, my favorite composer and one of my least favorite humans , out of it.
Am I the only person who doesnt like Wagner's music?
Blaydes No, a lot of people don’t like him. His music can be awfully dreary. Even I don’t like some of his stuff.
@TopTenz You're lost me when you went after Dawkins and defended that shrill, Rebecca Watson. Now I know where you stand at.
Richard Dawkins Reading hate mail is still one of the funniest things I’ve watched haha
Oh, it's a classic. I go back to rewatch that one occasionally. Perfect for brightening up a rainy afternoon in lockdown.
I feel Dawkins may be on the autism spectrum.
He appears to lack empathy, normal human emotions and lack of concern for others.
I watched every clip with R Dawkins in,and I simply do NOT believe this incident occurred. He is a kind man, real gentleman.
The Dawkins bit baffled me - it seemed more like some kind of personal attack by Simon Whistler. He can be controversial on Twitter, but I certainly wouldn't regard him as anything like a terrible person.
@@guybarritt8632 exactly.
Plus Tesla may well be correct about Eugenics in the year 2100.
they're doing stuff right now that would curdle your blood, if you knew.
Bell Scott he was never a genius
Tesla wasn't concerned about his future progeny. He didn't have sex because he believed it would dissipate or waste his mental energy, full stop.
Also Tesla was not proven wrong yet. This could very well happen by 21st century esp if we have problems with overpopulation and resources running out. Remember that movie Gattaca? Great sci fi. People just don't realize how great the world is right now, and take far too much for granted.
I recently heard that Lennon was a completely different person once he had a few drinks...he became very belligerent. The same was true of Johnny Carson.
Alcohol does that to way too many men...
And women too. It’s the alcohol, hence health warnings
Why blame the alcohol? :drinkers use it as an excuse to let their frustration and malignancy out of the box.
@@None-zc5vg True. Way back in the 80s, i was a very heavy drinker. but already then, i always said, alcohol may be an explanation, but never ever use it as an excuse. i never got malignant or aggressive, even when completely pissed rotten. may also have to do with the basic character of a person.
Carson was nearly always armed with a holstered pistol. One night he started breaking into hotel rooms looking for someone he thought was sleeping with his wife. He was pretty gangester.
Dawkins is a bit full of himself and trollish, but he was ON POINT about the Emma Watson thing. All the guy had done was ask her for coffee in an elevator (and where the hell did you get that he "cornered" her?) and she made it out to be this huge sexist thing (asking a women out is not sexist, dude) and reveled in her new found victim status.

bawoman "hot coffee" is a metaphor for sex, in case you didn't know.
Idk I think that accompanying a man to a hotel room in the small hours is a bit creepy. After Me too surely you can see why someone would at least consider it so.

Ragsy x
I never heard of Cynthia, Yoko, or May speak of being beat up by John.
If it's true and to the extent you may imagine it it is a sad thing but it doesn't diminish the great things he did for everyone and he has made the world a whole lot better for many of us.
scotty
John Lennon is a thief. He stole from Frank Zappa, among others.
Cynthia Lennon discussed John beating her and being cruel to Julian in her book.

Correct, despite being incredibly wealthy - Jobs denied he's fathered his daughter - in doing so, he maliciously smeared the mother who HE impregnated and then left them in poverty until the girl was ten. (pig) Jobs Stole the iphone design (see LG Prada phone). Jobs also STOLE the ipod interface, (see Creative labs apple 150 million settlement),. Jobs also stole the ipod idea from Bob Kramer - in its entirety, device idea (Jobs even modified the original IXUS NAME to make ipod)., the device appearance, music player and the central downloading facility. The whole idea was NOT his - and neither was it for any of the products. He even stole the brAun calculator design for the iphone.
Isn't pretty much every top 10 list an opinion? Just saying...

They are not all biased opinions though...
That's exactly what opinions are, expressing our bias towards whatever. What are they if not our bias?
Alex Wilson
Perhaps you should try giving objective opinions rather than biased ones, if you think all opinions are biased. Never heard of an objective opinion? Don't understand the concept of being fair in your assessments of people? Not all opinions are biased.
Absolutely opinions should be objective if possible, however bias is always there again, if possible. An opinion can be objective and biased.

Perhaps Fisher was listed first due to the fact that his "genius" was the most trivial at best. He played chess and talked sh*t. If you hold out for #1, antisemitism comes back as with a vengeance. Issac Newton did invent calculus to prove his point, but sure he was just being vindictive to a guy that claimed to "discover" something but couldn't prove it...
Interesting, but the part about Richard Dawkins was very baised and one sided.

No. You forget the actual scientist Dawkins. You know the word "meme"? Well he invented it & wrote a book on it about cultural transitions of views & acts amongst many others. The man is a genius. Just the sense I've gotten from a few interviews, one in particular in Australia he was very rude. I'm on his side I just think he can be an asshole. But this list is a sham anyways.

This list is using a very loose definition of genius.

Do you not realize how much of a slippery slope eugenics is? If eugenics existed you wouldnt of been born anyways.
Eugenics was supported by the US government and enforced by law. Calling out Tesla on that specifically is kind of ridiculous when it was so widely supported.
Izzak Beck so was slavery and genocide against the natives and spousal rape.
Prince Mononoke You've missed his point entirely lol.
longliverocknroll5 did I?
+Prince Mononoke My point is that calling out Tesla for that instead of calling out all of America for it is stupid, if you are going to call someone horrible for something in particular, it should probably be something that is unique to them, not something that existed as a norm in their society.
Izzak Beck so i did get your point. I don't agree.
43.5% of those that voted gave this vid a thumbs down. That's the briefest way I can think of to make my point here.
*****
But if you look at the votes for and against on most normal youtube videos, you'll see that once you've shown enough interest in a subject to click on a video, it must be something you're a fan of.
Selinor578 Just so you know Like=Dislikes for youtube. Both help the video get shown to everyone.
I don't even understand what the thumbs up or the thumbs down vote actually means. Does it mean you don't like the video because you think the content is inaccurate or does it mean you think the quality of the video was poor or does it mean you don't think the video was helpful or relative to the title? It's not a decent barometer of anything.
bluhousworker
I think it just means you liked the video or you didn't like it, for whatever reason you may have.
Eugenics in Tesla's time was like transhumanism is today. So that's unfair.
Also saying someone is a horrible person because he never married (and possibly never got laid) is kind of mean.

Well you are correct. I am a Christian. However the argument that people of religious faith are not rational is pathetic rhetoric that is used to avoid an actual discussion. I don't refute or reject scientific discovery. I am open to learning what makes the universe what it is. I am not irrational because I believe that something exists that we can't understand on a scientific level. I am not so simple minded that I can not integrate science with the possibility of the super natural Believing that man possesses the capacity to disprove the existence of the supernatural is very irrational considering our extremely limited knowledge of the universe.
Also the maker of this video did not say Dwakins was a bad person because he doesn't believe in God. He siad that instead of educating people he became an internet troll who spews hatred (which is exactly what he is). He also said that he is a sexist creep (which he is)...OK?
Also why write comments if you "can't be bothered"?

I'm beginning to wish I had'nt commented, I did so because I did'nt like this very negative posting that personally attacks people for no apparent reason other than to be unpleasantly smart-arsed. John Lennon, (not here to defend himself) made no secret of the mental health problems and personal demons that afflicted him, even alluding to them in some of his songs. He was no saint, but then he never claimed to be one of those did he?
I don't believe that man has the capacity to disprove the existance of the super-natural, how can anyone prove that something does NOT exist? Now if you (or anybody, anywhere, ever) could prove that the super-natural (an oxymoron in my opinion) DOES exist, then I might begin to accept the possibility of the existence of a God or Gods, but you can't, so I don't. OK?
*****
I know nobody has to prove anything to me in order to justify their beliefs. As for Dawkins and Lennon (neither of whom you've ever personally met I'll bet) being respectively a 'sexist creep' and 'scum' - well perhaps, after all they're just poor, human creatures, but you claim to be a Christian, so have some humility and forgive them.
You know, being talented and being a genius is not the same thing.

@Viking Song Adult women are always free to walk out.
You also missed Walt Disney
Yea though Walt perceived a wholesome family POV, he actually wanted to produce porn.
walt disney was right to worry about jews in america, look what they did to his company and to the country in general. Americans are all fighting over race and gender as a result of their media brainwash

@@jonescrusher1 Maybe. But, he is also said to be sexist and even racist, if you watch Song of the South.

Every person alive has some thing you will hate about him or her, or even the vilest person has something good about them.
The world is not like a Disney movie where people are all good or all evil.
+Kjelly Lund exactly!
+James Carter The "Subjectiveness" is the problem... We can all understand Hitler, Mao, Satan and the pharisees that killed Jesus etc. They were all "Saviours" in their own mind, and to theire followers, so there is a problem with this,"Subjective", views on Rigth and Wrong... Who shall be the one that defines Morals and whats Good or whats Evil? We humans like Justice, so who can give us all Justice? Only one, Jehovah God and the king He have choosen to rule, Jesus Christ. Humans have a free will, so everybody has a free choice to vote, and the consequences of ones vote will not all have a good ending. Only solid information can give you insight into who you really want too vote on.
So are you "free"? or are you bound by traditions, hate, bitterness and feel-good etc? every choice on this matter have consequences in one or another direction, they don't all lead into the same path...
+Kjelly Lund And your flaw is that you state the obvious for no reason.
Wow.
Nelroy Now that's a butthurt lennon lover
Coca-Cola® Official Maybe he was a pretty shitty guy and a "psychopath" and yes that would disappointment me, but the misinterpretation of those particular lyrics bug me more. I'm more butt-hurt about people confusing their own "critical thinking skills" with their misunderstanding of art in general.
Excuse my naïveté ee, but I always thought leaving someone flat, was just an expression, meaning walking out on someone.. May I refer to Chad and Jeremy's song lyrics, from Evil Hearted Me: " I don't care if she leaves me flat! I've got forty-seven others, if it comes to that."
Clearly, he isn't saying that he wouldn't care if she ran him over with a bulldozer.
How can any guy win in that situation?
dothedeed There is far more vile things she has done. She is a highly unpleasant person.
Yeah, not only is he an amazing director but he's an amazing painter as well.
+Chris Razack paint me like one of your French girls.
Ok
I can produce movies also, alot of people can. What's your definition of genius?
Rich Hamel When you're the filmmaker behind Terminator 1&2, Aliens, The Abyss, True Lies, Titanic, Avatar, etc...
Having talent or skills doesn't make you a genius
Genius is a word we use to describe people we find particularly gifted. Just because you want its use to be restricted to people who do well on a test measuring intellect, that is your problem. The word predates the test, and has a far longer history of being used to describe people of unique artistic talent.
pepere paints please- john Lennon has an iq of 163
@@paulmccartneystoenail4897 "People who boasts about their IQs are losers."

Genius is the capacity for original thought.
@@AnneOhn123 I've always loved Maxwell's Silver Hammer as a bit of black humour but what if it isn't.
You cannot expect that people that are trascendentally exceptional in one aspect must be exceptional in all other aspects at all moments during their lifes. They are humans after all. Also, their "sins" should be put within the historical context because their achievements were significant within their historical context.
John Lennon was an asshole. It's well documented.
Ellder Sage So very true.
When young, I've heard, he used to straight up mug people.
Bottom line: We should not put people on pedestals. And the true heroes and geniuses are not recorded in history.
+teemusid I have not thought about it that way. Are you saying: Embrace the genius, but shun bad behaviour.
+Martin de Lange If you can, but to feel that inspirational fire, you have to identify with the source, and in doing so, you will likely forge an emotional bond with the person(s) that inspire you. To quote Admiral Ackbar, "It's a trap!"
Kinda like how some people ignore the bad things people do when its someone they like like a celebrity?
Kind of... don't use top tens to interpret history though, or you're in for a lot of embarrassing conversations with people who actually know a thing or two. (this video paints a wildly inaccurate picture of most of the people in it)
Richard Dawkins, lol

Cillendor Edenion You can't make outrageous claims like that without giving a source.
Sorry to say it but at the rate we're going...I'm with Tesla.
Ok. Let the forced sterilizations begin, starting with YOU.
Your criticism of Dawkins is astoundingly shallow and poorly researched. Even if what you said were the whole story, it hardly qualifies him as a "shockingly horrible person."
Not only did Dawkins apologize about trivializing by comparison (he's written a whole article about it actually) but Rebecca Watson's incident hardly qualifies as harassment or sexism of any kind.
***** Newton's rivalry was also likely taken too far, but again: "shockingly horrible person?" I think not.
Dawkins still encourages people to be dicks to creationists.
Orion Melton I fail to see how that is, in the slightest, "shockingly horrible" or even unwarranted.

asking a woman up to your room late at night is not sexist. some women come onto men. all you have to do is say no.
Why is John Lennon on this list? He was just a good musician, but definitely not a genius...
Because people note him as a musical genius and he did loads of peace marches and parades.
He had a different type of intelligence. Just not the textbook definition.
+KimbayesStephenno95 whoop
+Alex Ward
wrong.
Lennon was not a good musician either, a great deal of the Beatles music was written and produced by ghosts or guns for hire.
Thanks for that explanation. I knew there must've been more to the story for Richard Dawkins to chime in.
Interesting. Thank you for the info/read. I always liked Richard.
Calling Dawkins "shockingly horrible" is ridiculous. Wow, to have lived a life where Richard Dawkins actions are "shockingly horrible" - very lucky.

Nikola Tesla's views on eugenics aren't necessarily wrong or bad in my opinion.
Well I understand how people can be against Eugenics and it is morally wrong, it makes a good point

Glad someone said it
I know! Guy in an elevator: Hey, would you like to come up to room fro a coffee?
Rebecca Watson: How dare you ask me such a vile and abhorrent question like that!
Later on the internet,,,
Rebecca Watson: ...And then, he asked if I wanted coffee!
I never heard anything about Lennon's women abuse and am interested in finding out more.
