In ancient/medievial times and even now you have to be super good in protecting yourself/ your empire, otherwise there are always big animals in jungle waiting for you to be weak so that they can hunt you.

They built temples in whole South of India not just Karnataka.. and the king Sri Krishnadevaraya who built hampi was great Telugu poet as well who wrote Amuthamalyada along with Tamil and Kannada literatures. So please don't divide people based on language, if those kings werent tolerant about language we wouldn't have such a mangificient temples built through out India.
