The two things that make a Cayenne such a good choice for me are that A, my aunt has had them my whole life and so my dad and I have done a lot of the general repair work for her and because of that I'm comfortable doing all the general maintenance myself. And B, arguably more important, I live in LA and my family has driven german cars since 1952, volkswagens, bmw's, audi's, porche's. This means that our favorite family mechanic is naturally a german specialist and as such any more intensive repairs the car may need, ie those I have neither the skill nor patience to perform, will be easily seen to.

I tell ya one thing, I love the 3.6L VR6 in my 08 Passat 4Motion wagon thats for sure... it can be reasonable on fuel if you can manage to hypermile some which isn't easy because that engine sounds sooo good when you drive it hard.

I mean, reliable as any other 9 year old Porsche will be. It'll cost more to service this vehicle than even the Audi or VW equivalent, so you need to budget in for that.
If you do a lot of highway driving the diesel will be the most economical in terms of fuel efficiency. However it depends on the price of diesel versus gas wherever you are. For example regular fuel here in Ontario is about $1.32/L, whereas diesel is about $2.04/L. I would have bought a diesel about 4 years ago, but not anymore due to the cost of fuel.
I have a 2016 base and yes it drives great but always little problems that end up costing thousands and if you’re thinking of buying one get the highest trim possible it really is slow

We've heard from a lot of recent buyers who love them, and appreciate our review of a used one. Hope you find one that works out for you !
V6 is the best engine in these - from a reliability perspective. Its the mentality of an immature lad without the means to purchase a Cayenne that will whine about the V6
Does the base engine provide enough power? I feel like it wouldn’t be the quickest to overtake or speed up on the highway. I’m debating if the S engine with 420hp is worth the fuel mileage. I think the diesel is the best of both worlds but the hardest to find in the used market!
I didn't have any issues getting onto the highway or passing slower traffic, I'd probably go with the S though, I just finished filming a 2018 Macan S and the difference in the engine to weight ratio performance was noticeable.
@@gilgonzalez5902 I would be going for the S if I do buy the petrol version. I still am looking for a diesel. Do you know anything about the reliability of the cayenne s ?
@@prabeeshsidhu the Cayenne S is very reliable as long as it is properly maintained. It also helps that since its a 6 cylinder now its also cheaper and easier to work on since there is a bit more space in the engine bay. The diesel engine will give you only slightly better fuel mileage but you will completely miss out on the true performance Porsche experience so at that point as far as im concerned you can save the money and buy something much cheaper.
I guarantee if backup cameras hadn't been legally mandated as standard tech, the luxury brands like Porsche would still be charing customers for it today.

I’m seeing conflicting info online does anyone know what the towing capacity is for this exact year and spec? Is it really 7,700lbs in the non turbo? Wow.
Unfortunately I can’t say for certain, typically I find that towing ratings are slightly higher for European-spec vehicles versus US/North American ones.
Drove a 2016 today base model .. and when it's on parking or red light feels this little vibration like in the bottom back of the seats.. is it normal ..? No lights for engine
I bought one in 2004 it was junk, I bought another one, 20k miles, several problems. I usually just park it and drive my Tahoe. I can’t figure out most of the buttons
I'd recommend checking out specific Porsche owner forums or even facebook groups, we've had a lot of activity on this video over the past year, seems a lot of people are looking at these in the used market and for the most part we've had nothing buy positive feedback from new owners.
I was looking for problems online for these, most of the time I ended up on forums complaining about 2011s or some of the first generations. If we think about the Jag I drove with less than 1/3rd of the mileage it had quite a few problems. This one was/is seriously clean.
@@PRNTestDrive these are notorious for bad transfer cases. Because if this tho, Porsche has a extended warranty for 7 year unlimited mileage free transfer case replacement. Just keep that in mind when purchasing. I only know cuz I had to replace mine
It does have sports-car like handling. Early reviews of the first Cayenne said it had the characteristics of their cars. Porsche was really the first exotic to go SUV, now we've got Lambos, Jags, Alfas, Bentleys, and Rolls Royces. Porsche was ahead of the game.

LOL - OK. So I have an option to trade my 2015 Jaguar F-Type S for a 2016 Cayenne. So the whole mystique is something I am already aware of - having complements shouted across cars at red lights & so on. I have a sports car. But for a daily driver, it gets a bit old to have a 180mph car driving city streets and having sky high bills - and it won't tow or run dirt roads. so I do like the Cayenne. But to me it's not an emotional choice so much as a practical one. I'm about ready for early retirement, a travel trailer would be nice with the right tow vehicle and this could be it. Thx for the warning about model years :) The only sad thing, there is no car in the world, with an exhaust sound as good as a Jaguar F-Type - I will miss this, when it goes - ua-cam.com/video/_J1m3oOqtqc/v-deo.html
Not reliable at all. Cayenne gts 2016. 9000 for transfer case if out of warranty. 6000 for valve cover gasket leak. 500 plus for oil change every year. Window switches and louvre on vent broken and I take care of my vehicles. Yes it drives amazing but you also need spark plugs every 40000km and each tire is 800 dollars for my 21’s. Brake job easy 2000 to 3000 dollars. Too many automotive journalists are clueless when it comes to reliability. I wish i never sold my Lexus Gx. Of course it half price of new when you have to spend an arm and a leg to keep it on the road in good condition! Regardless of how good the vehicle is you will not be happy if you care about value for your money!
9000 for a transfer case. Also every single Cayenne 958 and 958.2 will have this issue if driven long enough and in the right conditions( rain etc. ). It is a known design flaw that Porsche will only fix if it breaks. It starts with a skipping feeling in reverse and then progresses to a weird feeling between 2nd and 3rd gear while turning. I believe only the diesel is the only model not affected.
0:42 do I have one? I have several new Porsche cars but this was a very demeaning comment to viewers. Just because someone has one or not doesn’t mean you are better or not.
I mean you can always not save that $200. If you're planning to buy a car from them you might as well get as much of a deal as you can, but what do I know.
I've got a 958.2 Cayenne S and its the most unreliable car I ever had. I've daily drove and redlined my past cars like a BMW I6 or a Mercedes V8. I've beaten on those other brands for years and they haven't broke. I did hear that the 4.0 TT are much more reliable. The TT V6 power is nice but I may never purchase another one again.

I'm looking at the 2014 cayenne v6 platnium are they reliable ?
I mean, reliable as any other 9 year old Porsche will be. It'll cost more to service this vehicle than even the Audi or VW equivalent, so you need to budget in for that.
This was a great review, thank you.
Thanks for watching!
Wich is the best to have Porsche on petrol or diesel to be economic for consumption?
If you do a lot of highway driving the diesel will be the most economical in terms of fuel efficiency. However it depends on the price of diesel versus gas wherever you are. For example regular fuel here in Ontario is about $1.32/L, whereas diesel is about $2.04/L. I would have bought a diesel about 4 years ago, but not anymore due to the cost of fuel.
I have a 2016 base and yes it drives great but always little problems that end up costing thousands and if you’re thinking of buying one get the highest trim possible it really is slow
Thanks for sharing.
Not sure whick is more expensive, maintaining a used Porsche or the lease payments on a new one…
Both can be pretty pricey, there's no doubt! Maintenance is definitely key.
Ok, I'm sold. Going to buy a clean, well maintained to the T 2016 base tomorrow.
Enjoy it! We've had a lot of views on this video recently, lots of others have been looking at picking up one of these in the used market. Hope it works out well for you!
Do you recommend buying this now? I don’t want those stereotypical German expensive repairs. Should I get a power train warranty also?
Warranties are always good as long as you understand what is and isn't covered. We've had a huge surge of people watching this video over the past 6 months, it seems a lot of people are looking at these Cayenne's in today's market. We've heard from a lot of recent buyers who love them, and appreciate our review of a used one. Hope you find one that works out for you !
great review . its exaclty like the entry level 2014 I am about to purchases.
Hope it works out well for you!
Thank you soo much for sharing. Looking at 2013 GTS
Hope it works out for you!
Hi, Why most German car bumpy roads feel? Thank you.
Typically they install stiffer shocks which are usually more sporty.
V6 is the best engine in these - from a reliability perspective. Its the mentality of an immature lad without the means to purchase a Cayenne that will whine about the V6
Fair enough!
The S gets only 1 MPG less combined but yet will give you a whopping 120HP extra over the base engine.
Get the S. Mine is fantastic.
I'm thinking of buying one that has 133k. Is that considered a lot of km for this model year?
Miles? Maybe. It depends on service history more than anything, if it's had the scheduled work done then you might be in good shape.
133000 KM, not miles
It’s crazy the backup cameras weren’t standard it’s pretty new damn the 2015 I got is no camera 😭😭
I guarantee if backup cameras hadn't been legally mandated as standard tech, the luxury brands like Porsche would still be charing customers for it today.
informative review. Keep it up!
Glad you liked it, we've had a lot of interest in this car over the past few months, seems like it's right in the sweet spot of when people want to pick them up in the used market.
Here I am 2 years after this video came out. Looking to get one myself. 2017 cayenne S with gts kit from manufacturer. 120k miles. $18,000.00 usd. Scared of the reliability though. Gotta feel good knowing I own a Porsche’ though. 🤣
Don't be too scared! We've heard from a LOT of owners over the years and no one's coming here to complain about their experiences.
Great review.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video. Thank you.
Glad you liked it, thanks!
Drove a 2016 today base model .. and when it's on parking or red light feels this little vibration like in the bottom back of the seats.. is it normal ..? No lights for engine
It might be worn engine mounts.
how about the scored cylinder walls ? transfer case ? cam gears ?
We didn't see any of those issues when researching the V6.
@PRNTestDrive then you didn't research thorough enough.
I bought one in 2004 it was junk, I bought another one, 20k miles, several problems. I usually just park it and drive my Tahoe. I can’t figure out most of the buttons
The first generation certainly had it's fair share of problems unfortunately.
Do you use on it regulars gas or premium?
I think Porsche recommends premium, but it'll be up to you if you go with it or not.
Requires 91
@@PRNTestDriveIt’s a Porsche. It deserves premium.
VR6, THE VR6? Holly.
THE VR6, yup. Although Porsche isn't marketing it as THE VR6.
Are these AWD?
I believe they all came as AWD, yes.
Any unknown issues or experience with these that anyone would like to share?
I'd recommend checking out specific Porsche owner forums or even facebook groups, we've had a lot of activity on this video over the past year, seems a lot of people are looking at these in the used market and for the most part we've had nothing buy positive feedback from new owners.
"I love the brown." Can I quote you on that? :p
Absolutely can!
I got rear view camera on my base 2014 RX350, standard on most luxury cars by then,
Depends on the manufacturer it seems.
Lease and enjoy it for 2-4 years
Bit hard to lease these in 2024 but sure.
It's a VW Touareg with a cool Porsche badge 😅
OOF
I have a 1996 Chevy Tahoe with 244,000 on it and she still goes
Hope it keeps working out well for you!
Chevy tha hoe 😂
I am surprised about your comment about the reliability of a used Porsche with 80k KM on the clock.
I was looking for problems online for these, most of the time I ended up on forums complaining about 2011s or some of the first generations. If we think about the Jag I drove with less than 1/3rd of the mileage it had quite a few problems. This one was/is seriously clean.
@@PRNTestDrive amazing! Thank you for the information!
@@PRNTestDrive these are notorious for bad transfer cases. Because if this tho, Porsche has a extended warranty for 7 year unlimited mileage free transfer case replacement. Just keep that in mind when purchasing. I only know cuz I had to replace mine
You make it sound like this is a Porsche. I am more conditioned to thinking a Porsche must be a sports car, not a SUV.
It does have sports-car like handling. Early reviews of the first Cayenne said it had the characteristics of their cars. Porsche was really the first exotic to go SUV, now we've got Lambos, Jags, Alfas, Bentleys, and Rolls Royces. Porsche was ahead of the game.
I own a 2010 Cayenne in white. I love it!
Glad to hear it!
Lots of good information. It's too bad the commentator kept defending their choices instead of just talking about the car though.
o
“It’s a Porsche, do you have one?”
No - well, kinda.
That's one of the only times this question isn't a simple yes/no 😉
Yes
Porsche is Porsche don't thing is hard to have ...my comments is to buy and you will see if it's ok for your life or not ...more people drive bike and dream Porsche Cayenne to have ....have nice day 👏👍
Fair enough
Not a bad swap!
I mean we've heard from a lot of people who've bought these since this video went up and most people don't have major issues.
I have to put 2k for a master cylinder on my gx470. Thinking on selling it once its done. Its just too old
0:42 do I have one? I have several new Porsche cars but this was a very demeaning comment to viewers. Just because someone has one or not doesn’t mean you are better or not.
114 thousand people have watched this, and you're the only one to complain.
Show me one car to no have problem even man or lady Will need to take some tablet medicine for Head ..
Fair enough
$200??!! Omggg u shouldn’t have.
What issues did you have with it
@@prabeeshsidhu Engine stuttering, boost leak, sometimes misfires, window stops working. I mean it’s normal things but there’s a problem every 1-2 months. Not drivable rn. Otherwise aside from problems, it just gets vandalized.
Sounds like a problem vehicle.
@@PRNTestDrive It is, although it does give you props wherever you pull up but the thing siphons fuel like there’s no tomorrow. Not that much of a fun vehicle to drive either. Its feels like it’s trying to be something that’s it’s not. At the same time it ain’t a bad vehicle driving dynamics wise.
Only one thing you are wrong it is not Porsha it is Porsche
I'd check with Porsche on that one.
"por-sha" is the correct German pronunciation
Porsche reliable hahaha
Always at the top of consumer reliability scores, video like this exploding over time as people are buying them, yea I'd say so.
Sell that piece of jubk and buy a Lexus RX350
Once you go Porsche, you’d never go back.
Rx350 is reliable junk
Fair enough
How are maintenance with these car and how much do they cost per year to keep good please someone let me know
You’ll be spending a few grand a year on preventative maintenance, if you go with one of these entry-trims there’s less to break so less overall costs. We’ve had an influx of views on this Cayenne over the last 6 months, people are really interested in them right now. Seems like it’s a great choice.
