    Funny thing is, after being called for throwing a couple of times, Muralitharan bowls a leg break at 06:45-a delivery that is technically considered impossible to throw. But as he completes his follow-through, that delivery is also called a no-ball. At that point, the Sri Lankan team realized what was happening, and the skipper at the time, Arjuna Ranatunga, along with his men, stood by Murali.

    The scrutiny of Murali's bowling action unveiled an unexpected truth: the world's premier bowlers were all bending their elbows beyond the established thresholds. The original limits - 10 degrees for fast bowlers, 7.5 for medium pace, and 5 for spin - proved unrealistic. Consequently, the ICC standardized the rule to 15 degrees across all bowling categories, recognizing that a perfectly straight arm while bowling was an anatomical impossibility, save for the unique mechanics of leg spin bowling.

      @udamharitha1806 Місяць тому +16

      Unfortunately for murali, media and the powers of cricket used him as the poster boy for rule changing, that is why aussies and warne's fans always call him "they bend the rules for murali". Actually they have to question why they need to bend rules for a sri lankan bowler? who is from a tiny island which not had a power at all in cricket? this all just to cover up best bowlers of countries who wield the power at the time and that's how politics work in every field.

  • @johntaylor6654
    @johntaylor6654 Місяць тому +28

    He bowled with a bent elbow but kept it bent it so he wasn't throwing. It was Australian umpire Darryl Hare that was trying to make a name for himself by calling him a thrower. In the end it was Hare who's career ended early, so justice was served. As an Aussie if your not taking the piss it means you don't like us, so keep it up guys, we only make fun of our friends.

    • @WaDarkPhoenix
      @WaDarkPhoenix Місяць тому +3

      Muralitharan was called for throwing by many umpires across his career. Hair is just the most famous/brought up example.
      Hair and most of the umpires at the time had raised concerns with the Sri Lankan Cricket board previously - who had ignored all the concerns and refused to address them. So Hair called out what he and most of the umpires at the time believed to be an illegal action. He's been interviewed and stated that nearly every international umpire were of the opinion it was illegal, but they were too scared to call it because of how it would look- so he called it. There was no "Making a name for himself" .
      It's a difficult one. He had a deformity of his elbow which made it look really bad, but he also had more than a 15 degree bend for many balls which by the letter of the law, is illegal. The ICC basically had to bend the rules to allow him to bowl in international cricket.
      And it wasn't helped at all by Sri Lanka - They played the racism card when Hair called him for chucking. They didn't respond to umpire contact regarding concerns on Murali's action. And they failed to pass on reports to the ICC from Uni WA who tested Murali's action

    • @johntaylor6654
      @johntaylor6654 Місяць тому +2

      @@WaDarkPhoenix Jeez, I stand corrected, obviously WaDarkPhoenix knows all the facts, so he thinks. Murali was cleared by the ICC before the Australian series and was only called for throwing in Australia, by not only Hair but two other umpires but Hair is the most well known, Hairs actions were directly related to comments he made in a book he was publishing prior to him calling Murali a chucker, so connect the dots, he was trying to make a name for himself. It wasn't only Bradman that defended Murali, but a number of other well known cricketers including Sir Ian Botham, Bill Lawry, Richie Benaud, Tony Greg, and Ian Chappell.

    • @WaDarkPhoenix
      @WaDarkPhoenix Місяць тому +1

      @@johntaylor6654 Cleared before the test, yet he was still being tested well into 2004.
      Your entire response comes from an ESPN Article. Half of the named people didn't directly support Murali and weren't concerned about whether he actually threw it, but whether it was possible to make the call live with the naked eye.
      And, if you read down further, the ICC member who cleared the action also said the umpire had the right to make the call, and that while the ICC cleared the action, that doesn't mean the action used within a game is the same that was tested.

    Both the late great Shane Warne and Murali are absolute legends in the game. You can’t really compare the two and say one was better. We’ll probably never see the likes of them again judging by where cricket as a sport is heading. It has continuously become more of a batsman friendly sport with limited overs and batting friendly wickets just for the sake of entertainment. So yeah no bowler will probably ever achieve 700 or 800 test wickets in cricket. I’m just glad that I got to witness these greats playing.

    To put Murali's records into perspective, you should really compare them against the next best. For an example, his 800 and the next best Warne's 708, his 22 ten wicket haul and the next best Warne's 10, his 67 five wicket hauls and the next best 37 by R Ashwin and Warne. Same goes for ODI records as well. He's a world apart compared to even some of the greatest.
    And after all that chucking fiasco back then, now Australia hire Murali as spin bowling consultant when visiting the sub continent. 🤦‍♂️

    The King of Spin in the 1990s and early 2000s was actually Australia's Shane Warne. However Murali was very close behind him. Cricket was fortunate in the 1990s and first decade of the 2000s that operating at same time that Cricket had two of the greatest spin bowlers in history whose careers started and finished roughly at the same time. Cricket fans were spoilt for choice during this era. Definitely if 1970s and 1980s were the decades of fierce fast bowling for Cricket where Fast scary bowling ruled. Followed by the 1990s and the first decade of 2000s dominated by the almost forgotten art form of high class slow speed and flight through the air spin bowling which almost forgotten in the fast bowling dominated 1970s and 1980s until Warne and Muralitharan came along and revived this long forgotten great art form of Cricket called spin bowling and made it centre stage in cricket in that era.

    Regarding Murali playing against weaker teams - It's just a fact unfortunately- but doesn't take away from how good a bowler he was. It's the way that cricket scheduling works. The bigger teams often play series against each other more often.
    But to say "It's only a difference of 174 wickets" is absolutely wild, that's like 1/3rd extra wickets.
    Be careful about listening to random videos on the internet that say things like "The Aussies were trying to get him banned because they were afraid". Especially when that video is made from a cricket youtuber from the subcontinent- they often make some absolutely wild, made up claims to make interesting videos.
    The Australian team from that era was a powerhouse, one of the best teams to play the game- Ever. It's an absolutely wild claim to make, and clearly done for entertainment purposes.

      @@conqueror9312 You are correct, I was referring to "an extra" 1/3rd being that he scored 600+ against other teams.

    Interestingly since the rules were changed suddenly everyone except leg spinners are throwing. Anatomically impossible - what a load of rubbish. All that about how many degrees is recent history and not long term rules. There is no doubt that he throws, its just that now throwing is legal. He wouldn't have lasted two overs in the 1960s when the Australian Ian Meckiff was accused of throwing by the English after destroying their batsman in a match and then bundled out of the game.
    If you want throwing to be legal just say so - don't cloud the issue with unfounded rubbish.

    • @RealFansSports
      @RealFansSports  Місяць тому +1

      No one is compromising for wha you call rubbish. I understand the controversy with his delivery because of the issues he dealt with where he could not fully straighten his arm. We could look at it in the same way but different with Bumrah where he has a hyperextended elbow so he is able to go more torque in his delivery.
      Now the changing of the rule makes it controversial so that does make it interesting. And can see the debate, but never the less he is a very talented bowler
