Hey Dave, have you used any of the el cheapo catfish pro rod and reel combos from walmart, think the "Brand" is fish for fun or something like that. I picked up one and at the price i got it for I figure i could get a few more over next few pay periods just to have something different to use if they are fairly decent. Didn't know your thoughts on any of these

Ok I will be the first to ask the dumb question, Where do I buy frozen skipjack like that, or just frozen bait ? I am reconning you might say at the bait and tackle shop.
maybe if you are just catching for fun and the thrills. but commercial fishing frozen bait is a no no.. buying chicken is better. the main reason.. frozen bait doesnt catch the same period. i put fresh bait i can get 75-140lbs on a 100 hook line.. if i use frozen it drops significantly to around 25-75 lbs on the same line. chicken though.. can compete but it still falls a little short of fresh bait. and when i say fresh i mean catch it and use it same day.. if not that.. then put bait in a bag and leave it on ice for up to 1 week then use it. each day its on ice it produce a little less though but still better then frozen. also though they suspend so if you are deep and not getting bites suspend your bait higher. i still got some big fish in the channel here but my bait was 10 foot off the bottom.
The small catfish are dangerous will fin you bad my dad one time had this happen on his wrist , I say it hurts like bad he said a few bad words, don't let it happen to you!!!!
Big fan,u can catch catfish who can't its fun catching the big nasty dumb CF,try something different u gotta be getting bored,go after some big crappie or bass im old to use some live bait, change it up never know, teach old dogs new tricks
