Perhaps some modern painters want fresh color, not necessarily Impressionistic color, but getting color as visually accurate as they can make it, bearing in mind that we cannot get the same color we see visually with paint, getting beautiful color with strong drawing skills, starting with visual observation, but learning structural as much as possible so you can properly identify what you are seeing. Impressionism is not necessarily the end of the search.
Thank you Paul. Listening to your lectures, I had a couple of questions. I was wondering what your thoughts are on detail in a painting. Is amount of detail used in a picture simply a subjective element of the artist, or should the artist hold back on rendering every part of the picture? I guess I am just curious what your thoughts are on lots of detail versus a more suggestive approach. The other question is, could you talk about the oil paint itself; on whether you think oil paint is more conducive to painting thicker, or more as washes (as with the addition of medium), or somewhere in between depending on the stage of the picture. Thank you-Jack
Very interested in that first question (both of course) since it may be the question of the realist hour we are in. Will get it in in the next two or three

This combined with #118 ..... brilliant ... thanks
Very interesting! So much more to be said on this. And experiments to make.

@@PaulIngbretson Thank you
Thanks Paul! Love listening to these.
Very pleased, Kevin. Best to you.
Whoever said this was tedious and a crashing bore may have been inaccurate.
