For the record you kind of went backwards lol: Aalto was the latest trailer and you watched that first, then went backwards. But Aalto's and Sanhua's trailers demonstrate how the game looks now. It's still in beta and they're still refining it (some characters and even the environments underwent massive redesigns between first trailers and the most recent ones). They held a closed beta a couple months ago and there's footage of it floating around on youtube now. I think Kuro is a fantastic developer. They've shown their prowess with Punishing Gray Raven (another gacha that's mostly just pure combat, but very AWESOME combat). Their animations and fluidity in combat are pretty stellar. Wuthering is definitely inspired by Genshin and probably wouldn't exist without it, but it's doing things differently (and IMO, a bit better). The traversal is a bit more universal rather than being tied to certain characters or locations (eg double-jumping, grappling, wall-running etc) and the combat is more stylish and fast-paced. There's a dodging mechanic, and bosses have a parry mechanic, some characters can also do aerial combos. You kind of have to get good with each character, because they all spend time on the field to use their abilities. One of the little things I love is that when you switch to another playable character, they don't appear in the same spot, they appear next to the character you controlled previously. If the character you were controlling was doing a combo or similar, they'll finish up that animation after you switch, before leaving the field. So there are a couple moments where there are two characters attacking: the one you're controlling now, and the one you were controlling previously. Another thing I love, which I've only seen in a couple games, is that you can actually take enemies abilities for your own. Like in the gameplay footage on IGN you see a character briefly turn in a wolf, another turn into a bird, and another into a golem. When you kill an enemy, they have a chance of dropping an "echo", and when you equip that into a certain slot, you can use that enemy's ability. I personally think that Genshin started something new for gacha games. They raised the bar; it's a fully 3D anime action-RPG set in a massive open world with consistent updates. If you looked at gacha games before Genshin, none of them was like that. So now other developers HAVE to compete.
Love this comment! There's so much I didn't know about the game! I'll have to check out some of the new footage and info. Totally agree that Genshin changed the industry. I don't think another gacha game will surpass it.
I've been waiting for this game for a while. Can't wait to play it. I don't really care if it's a lot like genshin. Isn't it a good thing for me to be able to play two of the kind of game that I like? I do have expectations of this in terms of story and gameplay, since I've played their other game Punishing: Gray Raven. If it's a lot like genshin, more fun games for me 💁♀
I consider this more in the range of something like the same genre as Genshin but not necessarily a clone. Like, it's seems like they got enough different unlike others that are just obvious clones. Punishing: Gray Raven also looks different enough to be in the same genre - open action RPG probably. I've been waiting for this for a while :)
I wouldn’t necessarily put PGR in the exact same specific sub genre tho🤔 Like sure, PGR is an action gacha RPG, but it’s not open world exactly. When I think open world, I think the same line as exploring and well, you can’t exactly explore their combat zones. Same with ZZZ and HI3, however with ZZZ, I would still consider it open world because well, when you go back out of the combat zones there is still a “world” for you to explore, albeit very small. That’s why, imo, PGR is closest to HI3, Aether Gazer, and then maybe ZZZ in that order. It can be under the other same sub genre, | gacha action RPG | but it can’t necessarily be under the open world aspect of it. Ultimately, they, along many others, fall under the biggest category of them all, gacha RPG😭😭😭😭 which includes a multitude of other titles.
i can't wait for that game to come out! there is a character named jiyan that i want because i have a family member with that name. It's a womans name where i come from, which is so hilarious to me. also yes it is an openworld game! You can collect the enemies that you fight and use them for your character. The developers wanted that game to about sounds, i watched a video where a kuro games dev said they want ti implemented sounds to the gameplay. I'm not exactly sure what they have cooked in for that but I'm curious. There not done working on the game and i saw from video clips how with passing time the game looked better and better. I for one don't really think it's a genshin clone because a lot of games use similar elements to their games and from what i saw there are some similarities to genshin but other than that the game has a completely different vibe to me.
I totally agree that it's unfair to call it a Genshin clone. I'll have to look out for devs speaking about making the game. I'm learning game dev myself and listening dev interviews are like having magicians show you how they do their tricks.
This game looks good. I've been waiting for this. It may have some similarities to genshin since its open world but It makes me want to play it. The apocalyptic scenery and the gameplay is cool.
If you want recent fotage with actual gameplay, they had a beta test a couple months ago and there dozens of 1hr plus videos of people playing. It's likely to be released by the end of next year due to them getting a license, but its still getting updates. The developers are the same as the devopers of PGR which is similar but without the open world component
Honestly, I've wanted to make an openworld action RPG game myself, and still do, having worked on it since highschool. Unfortunately, I'm just a single person compared to a studio full of devs, artists, musicians, whatever their jobs are. I watch these trailers to make sure my ideas haven't been taken lol In all honesty, unless I take the time to sort out my plans and priorities and truly dedicate my time to pursue games dev, it'll simply stay a mere worldbuilding project rather than a fully fledged game that people can play (and hopefully enjoy). This game (WW) seems fun to play, similarly to Genshin. The artstyle is also pretty, but hearing the music for the first time - I love it so far.
This sounds awesome! If you ever want someone to play your game let me know! I've just started learning how to develop games myself and realise now how hard they are to make. They are just magic!
I think there is no denying, that it did copy the aspect of open world story rpg from genshin. It also has many features that are similar to genshin and either expanded or copied them. But because it ultimatly will be a story game, i think it isn't bad if its gameplay is similar. I mean if you play multiple round based rpgs you also aren't gonna complain that they all function the same way, right? I play genshin because i am interested in the story and have fun in the puzzles when exploring. If another game with the same template doesn't copy that, then it isn't a copy for me.
Oh lord not another "withering" pronunciation, not hard to say wuthering waves, great reaction, but for the love of god pronounce it right, its like all these reactors see an invisible "i" instead of a clear "u" lmao.
I realized i like people point out thing that are not normal. I guess not everyone able to do that it just fly over people head as nothing

Exactly. If Genshin was a genre I'd play most games under it.
This is a good point and I agree. I'm interested in the story and will have to check out P:GR.
I consider this more in the range of something like the same genre as Genshin but not necessarily a clone.

I agree! The vibe, design and apocalyptic scenery interest me. I'm wondering what the story is too.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll have to check out the footage. Hopefully I'll get early access to some of these new games.

Would love it if you would react to their ultimates too
I'll have to check them out!
Kuro, they cook good games i guarantee u that
They seem pretty decent looking at their previous work.

Totally agree. The story is what interests me the most about Genshin and the story of this game seems interesting.
cannot wait for it gosh
Can't wait either. It seems pretty cool!
The vibe of this game really isn't giving genshin 🙄 they both have completely different vibes.
Totally agree. The design and vibes seems a lot darker.
Oh lord not another "withering" pronunciation, not hard to say wuthering waves, great reaction, but for the love of god pronounce it right, its like all these reactors see an invisible "i" instead of a clear "u" lmao.
Flip, I didn't notice. The joys of accents 😂. I also sometimes miss T's in words too. Totally looking forward to playing this though!
