so, just a small quibble - his "pull the opposite side" advice around 3:50 is actually backwards. The opposite hand and arm are engaged, but you are pulling right hand as right leg drives...the left hand/arm is essentially rolling into position to do the "pull" when the left leg comes around. Interestingly he contradicts (or points out correct form) elsewhere in TR spring videos.

I was confused with this point as well. Going into biking I pulled on the opposite side of the down stroke. Hard to break this habit I spent the last 5 years pulling the same side. Now I'm frothing to get out there and add this trick. Another tool in the box of Awesome or just a waist of my valuable trading time? That's what makes this sport so exciting to me. Figuring it out.

Pete is awesome, I'm glad you put this clip out there. I'll go back and listen to the full episode now.

Another good advise to add to the main video of 'how to sprint'.
Engaging wrists and shoulders first and only 5 seconds drills.
After watching and implementing 'Sprinting 101' I see improvements, Bike flows better, I feel more in control/comfortable on the bike and; I haven't gone for my PR yet but am hitting number above 1000W again.
    Best podcast I have seen!

Awesome tips. The "power circle" or bending the bar is a common que for bench press as well!

Awesome stuff guys. Not something that can be easily replicated or trained indoors with the full bike swing / timing required to get maximal force to the pedals while still being in control of the bike moving forward.

what about a super massive rocker plate and drill your trainer down, bingo!

@@hardleesoft5919 Still won't be the same as a bike moving around underneath you and having to keep it pointing in the right direction on the road.

@@gplama haha for sure. I personally only practice sprint technique outside and just focus on hitting high wattages inside knowing I'll work on my technique out on the road. There is nothing that can really replicate actual outdoor sprinting, also being able to judge distances is a super important aspect to sprinting that needs to be honed outside.

Some people ride the indoor trainer to get faster on the road, while Miller trains on the road to get faster on the indoor trainer.

very very good video and info.
there are so many other vids about 'how" to sprint that never tell you HOW

That locked in feeling from the circle of power also recruits core muscles. You can literally feel how connected you are from the insides of the elbows, to the abs, legs, cranks & so on. Locking in the upper body is revolutionary for anyone trying to sprint faster, or put down better power figures.

I'm a mountain biker here in the Philippines, I use a hardtail, so I'm categorised as a xc racer right? but no, simxe Philippines has unexpected roads, a lot of cyclists prefer mtb rather than roadbike and tha way I sprint is nose diving infront of my handle bars, engaging all the core muscles and be as stable as possible, is this recommended or not? should I add the tilting of the back wheel/saddle? because on flat bars it's hard to position yourself when sprinting, it's hard to get aero, but when I nose dive it, it helps.

Are there actually power gains from swaying the bike side to side? The bike doesn't sway when I sprint on my indoor trainer (wahoo kickr), and my power is fine. I don't have a power meter for my outdoor rides, so I cannot compare the two. Would there be a power benefit, loss, or no-change if I trained myself to sprint outside like I do on the trainer, i.e. without swaying?

I've always thought that it was just to get the bike out of the way so you could drive the leg straight down. Of course I'm talking about the initial stages of acceleration. When you're wound out at top speed the bike shouldn't move so much I think.

I think you'll get more watts out of your sprint off the trainer. My max watts are usually 200-300 watts higher outside during and sprint compared to on my trainer indoors.

I think the key is that you want to be pulling as hard as you can with your arms, and in most cases this may actually sway the bike...if you can keep it more steady you may gain more speed , but this implies that as you pull with your arms from side to side, you are stabilizing with the opposing leg...this is sort of what he was getting at towards the end of the video...maintaining as much pull as you can, while driving with the opposite leg...this is very similar to the action in a kettlebell snatch

I identify as a sprinter, and nobody can tell me otherwise.
Also, I can't sprint for shit.
Some graphics / animation would be useful, can't say I understood the circle thing
