    As long as Ian sings, I will listen. He has had a stellar career, writing, singing, and flute playing. I am in awe that at 86, he is still out there. I bought Aqualung album in the early 70s, and am a fan forever. I am 70yo now. ❤️ JT and IA. I am sad that I have never had the pleasure of seeing them live, back then, or now. 😞

      The way I see it is to rejoice! Be happy this man, after well over a half-century of producing and performing his very own brand of music, show, etc. is still able to put on shows - its a real blessing. We just can't expect someone to be larger than life - tho he may seem so - when gravity takes its inevitable toll. Long live Ian Anderson!

    Ian has occasional strong singing shows and this one is relatively strong. But it is more about the Tull lore than the actual voice quality. Is Parrish or O'Hara singing the chorus segments?

      To me Jethro Tull is the records, and I like all of them. When it comes to live stuff I went to concerts from 73 to 03 mostly to hear the wonderful improvised jams and pieces of music that are not on the albums. Look up Jethro Tull Trio Instrumental to hear some amazing Martin on guitar.

      @@BobC59 nothing to do with age. Jethro Tull used to be an amazing band, and the current version doesn’t resemble what it used to be, that’s all. The current musicians are not even old, as far as I know. It’s valid, but it should be called something else, in my humble opinion.

  • @davebowers8631

    What does Martin Barre call his band? I'd like a second opinion because I saw Tull 9 days after this show, in San Diego. Aqualung was one of my first LP's. Tull's been a bucket list band for me, and I must say my brother and I were just a bit underwhelmed.
    But it didn't ruin my love for Jethro Tull.
    I would like to see how Martin's band represents the legacy. So what is he calling it?

    • @BobC59
      @BobC59 9 місяців тому +1

      Simply The Martin Barre Band. And of course you were underwhelmed, my friend. Aqualung was released over half a century ago! Most rockers from that era have retired or died, but its cool you still got to see the music performed by the genius behind it, even if he is 77 years old (and apparently not playing guitar anymore 😢) Since you know the music, Barre and band are worth seeing. I saw them twice in one week, end of last October. The first show was electric, the next (Halloween night) was acoustic. Despite having been bludgeoned in the heads with axes, they pulled off a great show ;) Both were good shows, but know that a lot of the music - particularly in the acoustic show - is interpretations of the originals, tho they do some songs very close to the originals as well (mostly the first half of the electric show in the recent Barre tour). If you know the music, go see them if they are still touring right now. But do so with the understanding that this is music originally written and performed by a much younger Anderson and company. If you didn't see Tull over 20-30 years ago, it won't have been the experience us older folks were blown away by in the realm of the late 60's to late 80's (tho they have done some great shows in the decades since to be sure as well! But Ian with his powerful voice and insanely energetic stage presence from start to end back in the glory days - wow.... Cheers!

      @davebowers8631 9 місяців тому

      @BobC59 Excellent and informative reply Bob! I guess I set myself up to be underwhelmed by expecting them to play My God. Tgats on me. Aqualung was one of my first LP's ever, but my musical soul and DNA soon found Pink Floyd and never looked back. So I never became a Tull deep cut fan. But that early discovery has stayed with me and have high regard for their contribution to the greatest decade of music ever.
      Peace!

      @@davebowers8631 Amen!
      Aqualung was the first album I ever bought with my own money, but I had already fallen in love with their previous work.
      Have you looked at videos of Barre's shows? There are plenty to pick thru here. He and his band do a cool version of My God. In place of the flute solo, they rocked a piece called Palladio from a contemporary composer. Sounds really good with electric guitar, tho nothing comes close to the original, of course.
      Peace to you!

    I saw Tull three times in the 90s and Ian’s voice was struggling then. I saw them on their 40th anniversary tour and they hired the lead singer of Tull tribute band Sossity to sing some of the songs that Ian’s voice couldn’t handle. I saw them again in 2021, and it was worse than this. He was inaudible except for Hunt By Numbers, which was written in a key that his vocal limitations could handle, and Joe Parish had to share vocals on a number of songs in order to carry him. Ian is undoubtedly a great musician, and cans still write great songs. But his voice was badly damaged during the Under Wraps tour and has been getting g progressively worse, especially in the last 20 years. I don’t see why he feels the need to put himself through this. I want to remember Tull when Ian still had his voice. I won’t pay money to see them again. Ian is the only original band member and if he’s barely audible then it’s not worth the price of a ticket.

    Sorry, but Ian should just stop touring. The voice was gone years ago and judging from this, the crowds are gone too. If he wants to keep releasing studio albums, fair enough. But this is just tarnishing the legacy. If you want a Tull concert experience, go see Martin Barre's band. The vocals and musicianship are far superior and you'll pay far less in a smaller venue.
